Summary:

This Deluxe Washington Square getaway for 12 is steps to the River & Broughton Street!

Dating circa 1790 - 1810 the Historic Washington Square Estate has 6 bedrooms, 6 baths and is located on Savannah’s picturesque Washington Square. Less than 2 blocks to River Street and one block to Broughton Street and walkable to all of Savannah's Historic District.

The Space:

Located next to Savannah’s picturesque Washington Square, (named forGeorge Washington) The Washington Square Collection is one of Savannah's oldest homes built between 1790 and 1810. The award-wining, historically preserved home is a luxury refuge for families and friends looking to relax, unwind and explore Savannah.

This home sat vacant and decaying for YEARS until we bought it in 2004. Miraculously, we were able to retain the vast majority of its original details! The stair case, heart pine floors, windows, fireplaces and mantles are all part of the original home.

No expense was spared on this painstakingly restored, but modernized historic mansion. It is fully outfitted with a gourmet kitchen and island seating for 3. Doors from the kitchen lead to the lush, private courtyard.

The front porch and entrance of the home has 3 steps approaching the porch. So it is not wheel chair accessible but it may be suitable for some folks with mobility issues, as there is a full bedroom and bathroom on the first floor.

The full size, gourmet kitchen features top of the line electric appliances and island seating for three. The connecting dining room and sun room feature the original fireplaces and wood millwork. Guests can lounge in the sun room and appreciate the courtyard views. The formal living room has comfortable seating and a large smart TV for family gatherings with historically preserved details like the original fireplace - no, we don't allow fires any longer!

The private courtyard features historic terracotta statuettes and lush foliage. Table seating for 8 allows for alfresco meals or evening cocktails.

On the first floor of the Main House we have the first of four bedrooms with a queen bed tucked into the front window nook. There is a full bathroom beside this bedroom with a large walk-in shower and this bathroom has a entrance from the hallway for all guests to access.

On the second floor you will find the other 3 bedrooms and spacious bathrooms. The primary suite faces Congress Street and with a queen size bed, chaise lounge and a LARGE luxury bathroom! This bathroom has a decorative fireplace, 2 separate vanities, a lovely soaking tub and a walk-in shower. On the other side of this bathroom is a large walk-in closet for the primary guests.

The second bedroom has a King size bed, en-suite bathroom and closet. The airy and sunny bathroom has a soaking tub and separate walk-in shower.

The last, 4th bedroom has two TWIN antique maple poster beds and a full e-suite bathroom. These rooms are bright and sunny and this bathroom has a large walk-in shower.

The Carriage House has additional sleeping for 4 people and is a free standing apartment built over our garage, with a private entrance on the lane/alley. It is located behind the main house. The carriage house has an open living room and fully equipped kitchen with island seating for four.

Each of the 2 bedrooms have en suite bathrooms & queen size beds. Both bathrooms have tub/shower combos. Guests will walk through the garage and courtyard to connect with guests in the Main House.

During the horse-and-buggy days, Savannah’s carriage houses were the sleeping quarters of the family's carriage drivers. The drivers were responsible for the care of the horses & the carriages housed in what we now use as auto-garages.

This quiet neighborhood offers residents and visiting guests a relaxing spot while within walking distance of the vibrant downtown attractions. It is a short 2-block walk to Historic River Street and the Savannah River.

The property has a private 2-car garage for guests. Other vehicles must use metered, on-street parking.

The house was beautiful, clean, and well maintained! Wonderful location. The door handle was broken when we arrived and they were so responsive and corrected it easily! Will stay here again!

the house was beautiful - decorated and southern charm was well thought out and portrayed. the house was also very clean. we loved the many bedroom options for our family and spacious kitchen, dining and living area! the side carriage house was a great space with the courtyard connecting for our families! it was great space for our family to stay the week. the other great perk was the walking distance to river street and main shopping drag. we had no need to use our cars. great place.

Overall, it is a great house and a great location. I give it 4 stars because you can only turn down the AC to 70 degrees. I understand as an owner you want to limit that, but everyone in the house slept horribly because of the temperature. You also cannot open the windows to get a fresh breeze so it was very uncomfortable to sleep at night. Other than that, it was an incredible stay.

We could not have picked a better place for us! Six ladies, six bedrooms with their own bathrooms (four in the main house and two in the upper part of the garage)! In walking distance to everything, and this is seriously a walking town. Clean, comfortable, and a fantastic sun room for all of us to hang out in. Suzanne who managed the house was super responsive to very minor items. We would definitely stay here again.Notes: If you cannot handle a flight of steps, this is not the place for you. Also, Savannah is a town where there are always historical home improvements happening - do not be surprised by very minor construction noises no matter where you stay.

Such a great house and carriage appendix! Lots of old school charm and nicely remodeled bathrooms! Epic location and easy walking distance to all the places. Really enjoyed the courtyard. This property was everything we wanted and needed.

We had a wonderful time in Savannah for my daughter’s wedding. The home was excellent. From the minute we walked in the front door we felt at home. Plenty of space to be together and as needed time alone. We would all highly recommend this property.

The bedrooms are big, quiet, and everyone enjoyed a private, remodeled bathroom. Plenty of room in the house for nine seniors to move around, enjoy talking or just being quiet. The courtyard was a favorite for breakfast. Right off Washington Square, and an easy walk to River Street and Broughton shopping district. The house is right on the hop-on hop-off tour bus route. Two garage spaces were very convenient. The house is beautiful and was perfect for us, but it's time for some TLC: scrape and paint exterior, fix some falling cabinet doors, update dishwasher. Suzanne was great to work with.

We rented both main house and carriage house for the weekend and was very pleased with the lodging. Parking was an issue due to limited availability and small alleyway access. The welcome book was very detailed but did lean moreso to a rules and regulation standard operating procedures guidebook rather than an informative insight to the property and city of Savannah. The historic charm was truely the highlight of the weekend as this property does deliver. Neighbors are welcoming and were a pleasure to correspond with. The home being off the main roadway did make for a quiet nights rest. I overall do want thank the owner and VRBO for the opportunity to stay in such an historic charm.

My family and I stayed here over the 4th of July holiday. The house and location were perfect. We were within walking distance to restaurants and the riverfront, and yet we felt secluded and private. The courtyard area was an extra bonus. We enjoyed family conversation and games there. In the morning the birds seemed to enjoy the area, also! They serenaded us with song. ☺️

Amazing location!! We walked just about everywhere. We had a twelve woman girls trip and this house fit us perfect. There was a tiny problem with one of the brand new AC units but Suzanne took care of it within a day. Suzanne had great suggestions on things to do and places to eat. Even a personal chef! We used all 6 bedrooms and each bedroom has a separate bathroom. Perfect place for us. we would highly recommend it to everyone.
