A wonderful adventure awaits you in the charming, historically preserved, tiny hamlet of Saint Peter's Village. Originally a late 19th century industrial company town for an iron mine and black granite quarry and now a destination for those looking for something out of the ordinary. Perfect for a short solo, friends or romantic getaway or longer term writer, artist or contemplative wellness retreat. Take advantage of pricing discounts for longer stays.
Stay in the quaint purple house originally occupied by the local cobbler and meticulously restored and maintained as a private residence for decades that is now available for a limited number of guests throughout the year. Inside you will find a lovely home with a full kitchen and dining area, living room with bay window and extremely comfortable queen sleeper sofa, bathroom and dressing room. There is free wifi and a smart tv for streaming. Head up the original curved stairway to the second floor and find your bedroom - a cozy haven with organic hybrid mattresses that can be configured into 2 Twin XL beds for friends getaways or 1 King for couples depending on guest preference. At night open the two small windows beside the bed and let the powerful and soothing sound of French Creek put you into a state of deep relaxation. Hold the handrail and feel the history on the way down 7 steps to the 125+ year old basement to find a full laundry and a claw foot tub for a relaxing soak where you can get lost in another time. The best feature of the house though is the amazing deck out back that overlooks the creek and woods. Depending on the time of day and year you will have a much envied spot to view either the folks enjoying the boulder studded creek or to just relax in total peace while immersed in mother nature. Walk out the front door and enjoy village life and step out back to enjoy nature - truly the best of both worlds.
The Village is mostly closed and quiet on Monday and Tuesday and can get quite busy on summer weekends. Every season has its own beauty in this magical place. It is situated in a narrow boulder-strewn ravine on the Falls of French Creek at the edge of the woods. Locals know it as a place to hop on the rocks, hike the trails, stroll down the sidewalk enjoying the unique shops and quirky vibe, and perhaps to catch some live music frequently offered at the Inn during the summer. The Village is home to some fantastic places including an incredible Bakery with delicious coffee and scratch kitchen and huge deck overlooking the rushing creek, Antique Pinball Arcade, Ice Cream Parlor, Antique Shop, Gift Shop and Healing Arts Studio, Historic Inn with Restaurant & Bar, as well as home to some amazing crafts people including a woodworker, blacksmith and glassblower.
The central location in beautiful Chester County lends itself to a myriad of interesting day trips. Head west on Route 23 and find yourself sharing the road with the Amish and their horse-drawn buggies. Explore small towns set amid the rolling hills and farms famous for fresh food like September Farm Market in Honey Brook and Shady Maple in East Earl. Pick your own seasonal fruit at Weaver's Orchard in Morgantown, find covered bridges, ride trails on horseback at Sheeder Mill Farm in Spring City, bike the French Creek Heritage Trail in Phoenixville or the Struble Trail in Downingtown, enjoy a gentle ride in the sky at Above & Beyond Ballooning, explore French Creek State Park and Hopewell Furnace, funky Phoenixville, Historic Yellow Springs Art Shows, the amazing People's Light Theater, the Wharton Esherick Museum, Valley Forge National Historical Park, Chanticleer Garden and even more in the Brandywine Valley.
Planned a last-minute getaway. Host was super accommodating and very responsive. St. Peters Village is an extraordinary little gem of a village and staying at the Village Retreat was like the cherry on top! Really hope to stay again! Thank you!
My stay was perfect. I was looking for beauty, nature, relaxation, peace. I felt all of this and more. Cindy was the perfect hostess, responding immediately to all of my questions. This adorable purple house is a hidden gem that I highly recommend. ~ Cindy
House was exactly as described and pictured in the listing. The back porch is an amazing place to sit and relax. It’s a wonderful old house full of charm and quirks. Defiantly a unique place to stay! The kitchen has the necessities for light cooking. Owner was communicative and helpful. Hope to be back for another girl’s trip.
Great place to spend a weekend hiking trails, rocky creek bed, and the small town shops!
St. Peter's Village would take you 5 minutes to walk through. There are a few nice shops, a pinball arcade, a wonderful bakery, an inn, and a lovely rocky stream that is beautiful but marred by graffiti. If you'd like to have a nice quiet weekend, this house is perfect. It's clean, and updated yet still has old-time charm. Cindy thinks of the details...a pen and pencil on the desk, brochures from nearby parks, K cup are fully stocked, flashlights... The only negative side of the house was the spotty internet. Since I was doing work from here, it was not ideal for my stay. But if you're away and need internet for normal purposes, you're good. Want to try something new and exciting? Glasslight, Inc which is just down the street is a place where you can get lessons on making glass items. The owner Joel is a great guy who really knows his trade and likes to share it with others.
We loved our few days staying in this Village Retreat. Morning coffee on the deck over the water fall was heaven! This older home has the character and charm we love! Walked to the Inn for dinner one night and window shopped in the quaint village. Wish we had more time to explore the area and enjoy this home!
We had an awesome long weekend at Cindy’s home. Everything was just as described. We ended up sleeping on the main floor on the sofa bed…very comfortable! The weather cooperated, and the location and proximity to French Creek was perfect. Thank you, Cindy! We had so much fun!
We spent 5 nights at this lovely cottage overlooking the bouldery French Creek. A superb bakery is 3 doors down, and a marvelous, yet affordable restaurant is only 4 doors down the street. Several interesting shops and a winery are within a couple hundred yards. A great place for a romantic getaway. The only drawback is the single spacious bedroom is upstairs via a steep, twisting staircase. However, there is also a large, pullout sofa on the first floor.
My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to stay here for 10 months while we waited for our new home to be completed (multiple COVID delays). It is an absolutely beautiful setting and we made friends with many residents on St Peter’s Rd. A very sociable area indeed. Cindy, the owner/manager, was always available and eager to see that we were comfortable and content. We are really going to miss the deck and he sound of the creek as we slept at night. Thank you for providing us with a very comfortable place to wait for our “forever “ home. Joy and Peter
My son had the wonderful opportunity of staying in The Purple House for last year. He was able to experience the village of St. Peter’s during the four seasons. The house’s backyard is climbing rocks and a bubbly stream that is breathtaking all year long. The village has a fantastic bakery and the inn has great food and live music. The house is very quaint and well maintained. It is very clean and comes well stocked. Cindy, the owner, is extremely easy to work with and any question is quickly answered. Would highly recommend a stay in this house, you won’t be disappointed.
