Chardon, Ohio
Welcome to The Thistle House named in honor of Chardon, the French word for thistle. We invite you to enjoy a spacious, 3 bedroom, 2 full bath home in the heart of Geauga County. The large serene backyard has outdoor seating, outdoor eating space and a fire pit. The second story balcony is a cozy spot off the upstairs master for a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
Nearby restaurants, shops, parks, walking trails, golfing, festivals, and more will make you want to stay longer. We look forward to hosting you and suggesting anything from a great restaurant to a fun part of Northeastern Ohio to explore. Come and visit our nearby Newbury farm to see the chickens, ducks, horses, donkey, pigs and more!
Very charming old home in a quiet community. After a week of hotels with 3 kids this was a very welcome place to stay. I tripped a few times walking from the kitchen to the living room because of a large awkward transition, but i lived! But the home was fun to stay in, old and historic, but clean and welcoming.
Awesome little house - perfect stay for my dog and I - less than a mile from my childhood home - perfect place to stay to visit family- walkable to the square - very thoughtful amenities ! Comfortable bed! Enjoyed the stay very much
Great for a short stay in Chardon.
The Thistle House was a very great place for us to stay for an out of town family wedding. If we would ever have a need to stay in Chardon again I would try to stay here again.
Wonderful home, close to Chardon Square which was very inviting and charming!
Absolutely amazing stay!!! Beautiful place that made you feel like home the second you walked in. Everything you would need was on hand. The owner truly cares about making your stay the best! Can’t rave enough about what an amazing stay it was. Would definitely stay here again!
We had a nice stay at the Thistle House. It was a cute little house that has been updated nicely. The location was perfect for walking into town. The fresh loaf of bread was delicious and the kitchen was well stocked. The automatic thermostat was a bit annoying when trying to keep a consistent temperature. It was hard to regulate the temperature at night-went from cool to hot. I stayed with my parents, toddler, infant and husband. Overall we had a lovely stay.
Good
Overall a great place and great host!
We truly enjoyed our stay. On the last evening we walked to Element 41 and really enjoyed the downtown stroll, Chardon’s holiday lights, and a delicious meal. The antique electrical decorations in the home were very interesting.
All around great place. No hassles. Everything we needed and more. Well appointed and comfy. Host(s) very responsive.
Fabulous. We were in town for a funeral and the location was perfect. The house was lovely and well appointed and the hosts responsive and caring.
This is a great little house in Chardon. This location was great for us to visit family. The house is equipped with everything we needed and just plain adorable. We really enjoyed our time.
A group of 6 stayed over for a night and we had a great time! The house was clean and well-cared for, Molly was so easy to work with in planning, and we loved the cute yard and neighborhood! Definitely would stay here again for a weekend getaway, especially in the fall with the changing leaves :)
Plenty of room for us and had everything we have needed.
My family had a wonderful stay in the Thistle House. It's a beautiful home that's perfectly located. Molly provided everything we needed for a lovely weekend. We so appreciate your hospitality and responsiveness.
We had a lovely stay at Thistle House. House was very clean and decorated with a pleasing mix of modern and antique features. Host made very good use of small spaces. House was well-appointed to meet guests needs with soaps, lotions, shampoos. Kitchen was filled with cooking oils and staples. Host provided fresh eggs and a delicious pumpkin bread upon arrival. This is a cozy antique home with smaller spaces, and uneven flooring which may be difficult for certain folks to navigate. Heating, a/c, TV, stove, kitchen appliances all worked great. Did not use the washer/dryer located in basement. Backyard has outdoor seating, firepit (we did not use) and very spacious for outdoor activities. Quiet residential neighborhood, just a short walk into Chardon Square with coffee shop and restaurants.
Old home - great VRBO - perfect for us as we needed a place to stay in a small town that doesn’t have a lot of hotels.
This property is located not far from Holden Arboretum and local wineries. We stayed here for a friends’ weekend getaway and there were three separate bedrooms so we could each have our own space. It was really cute and had a lot of character. The host left out homemade banana bread for us to enjoy! We only noticed two very minor issues and I’ll include them here only for practical planning purposes. First, this is a very old house, so the floors are uneven and there are significant thresholds between every room. This may be a challenge for people with mobility issues. Second, the upstairs bedroom didn’t have many electrical outlets and was quite stuffy (but there is an air conditioning unit you can have hooked up if you ask). We just opened the windows and that was fine for mid-May. So, the age of the home is what makes it unique and charming in mostly good ways. But be aware that it has not been completely gutted and redone. However, it’s a great place if you are ready to embrace the quirks that come with a really old home.
We enjoyed our quick stay. The house is filled with charm that provided warmth and wonder. There was plenty of room and the kitchen was well stocked. Even though we came in the chilly spring we got to enjoy the beautiful yard.
