Our beautifully restored 160 year-old barn is centrally located on Mt. Desert Island, approximately 15 minutes from the village of Bar Harbor and approximately 10 minutes from the entrance to Acadia National Park via an old farm road, aptly named 'The Crooked Road'.

The space
The 160 year-old barn once served as the livery stable for Town Hill, a one-time farming community which is in the township of Bar Harbor. We've converted the stable into two beautifully appointed apartments --there's no other place quite like this on Mt. Desert. Soaring ceilings, hand hewn beams, cozy bedrooms, new kitchen and baths, loft space for tv and reading. We call this half of the barn 'The South Barn'. It's well-appointed and comfortable....and the baths and kitchen are brand new. The original ceiling and beams are smiling from all the love and attention! New kitchen, baths, flooring, heating, air, insulation and all the amenities create the perfectly livable blending of old and new. It's cozy, comfortable and well-appointed. The South Barn is truly a wonderful home-away-from-home and the perfect jumping off place to explore Mt. Desert Island.

Guest access
Our guests are welcomed to borrow our bikes, helmets, water bottles and bike rack for wonderful rides on the carriage roads in Acadia National Park. Feel free to wash a load of clothes in our laundry room. We'll make sure you have maps and guidebooks for use while you're visiting, and steer you towards our favorite hikes, bike rides, swimming spots, tours and restaurants.

Other things to note
Because we're at the intersection of three Island roads, our location is great for exploring the Island. Acadia NP, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and the 'Quiet Side' of MDI are all close by. Be prepared for summer traffic! Our once-quiet farm road is now a busy thorough-fare that runs from one end of the island to the other.

An Island bus service, supported by L.L. Bean, stops just across the road and provides free service into Bar Harbor and throughout the national park.

Bangor International Airport is 45 miles away -- approximately an hour's drive. The regional airport, Hancock County/Bar Harbor, is approximately 2 miles from our house and barn., public transport.

The owners are lovely and the property is wonderful . It’s an old barn that has been beautifully renovated. The hosts are incredibly gracious and take time and care to be welcoming make the stay comfortable. A quieter stay 10 min from the busy Bar Harbor. We will DEFINITELY plan to stay here again.

Hosts were great and provided maps and hiking suggestions and awesome coffee and snacks. Hosts loaned us hiking poles and also offered bikes if needed. Place was cute and clean and convenient to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Would stay here again.

This is a perfect base for exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. Our hosts are so helpful and have provided everything a vacationer could want. Across the street is a terrific market, outside beer garden, and pizza. The welcome treats were an added bonus!

We were soooo pleased with this rental. A beautifully restored barn with so much character. Rustic. Loved the new kitchen and bathrooms!! The owners greeted us when we arrived. Very responsive to our needs, as well. We would stay here again, again, and again!!! Highly recommend. Also very close to Bar Harbor and entrance to Acadia.

The weather was wet (Hurricane Lee arrived) and there were beautiful, glorious days. Paul and Jane were the perfect hosts and even stocked the refrigerator with things they thought we could use so we didn't need to grocery shop with our late arrival. The accommodations were clean and cool. Paul had even developed a map of Acadia National Park and ranked it's trails according to skill level. Just a gorgeous place. It's somewhere I would go again.

The South Barn was exceptional in so many ways. The hosts, Jane and Paul were top notch. The place was immaculately clean. There were so many extras like maps, coffee, snacks, yogurt and more. They made sure we were comfortable and helped us with hikes and other suggestions. This is a gem if you are looking to stay close to Acadia NP.

WOW! This was a most delightful stay. Our hosts were gracious, with breakfast food, snacks and a few refreshments already stocked in the kitchen. The space is fabulous and very comfortable. We spent our evenings gathered in the loft to share our favorite pictures of Acadia Park. The location is great for seeing Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Thank you Jane and Paul.

Beautiful property with exceptional attention to detail throughout. The owners are helpful but not intrusive. Located away from the Bar Harbor crowds, but an easy trip to town when desired. Nothing but good things to say about our stay.

This was one of the overall best property we’ve stayed at over the years. The restored barn was charming and the property was immaculately clean. The hosts greeted us with a welcome basket and provided many helpful tips with hiking trails at the park and good restaurant recommendations. The location was close to Acadia park and other attractions and the street noise didn’t bother us. I highly recommend this property.
