The Shouse is a rustic living quarters built directly under the same roof as our horse stable. Bring your horses along and they can stay here too. The home has recently been fully renovated from an Amish tack shop. It is located in the heart of an Amish community. Spend your evenings relaxing on the front porch and watch the horse and buggies go by. On Friday evenings have the option of going on a horse and buggy ride for a little extra cost.
The space
This unique space has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere, from the rustic style home to the laid back country living experience you will have. Farm fresh eggs always available for breakfast and if you are an early riser come out and help milk the cow right outside your back door.
Guest access
The home has full amenities included in it. No need to feel like you are "roughing it" even though you will feel like you are back in time. Laundry and full kitchen are in your own private space. The barn is also open for your horses you are traveling with! The property has a nice fishing pond on it aswell so don't forget to bring your poles.
Other things to note
If you hear someone outside of The Shouse it is probably just one of the Amish neighbors coming to use the community phone set up in the barn. They won't disturb you but feel free to poke your head out and say hello.
Very clean and met my needs well. You will be driving on dirt roads to get to the place, and I would advise getting there before dark as it's hard to find. To Casey's credit, I arrived after dark and was lost. Casey was out looking for me, and I do so appreciate that effort. So bucolic. Wake up to roosters crowing. Very peaceful. I probably wouldn't stay there again only because I was on a cross- country trip and this place, lovely as it was, is too far off the interstate.
Wasn’t quite sure what to expect, pleasantly surprised!
This quaint shouse is perfect for anyone looking to get away from it ALL! It has all the modern amenities, Wi-Fi, tv, washer and dryer (A must for those traveling with kids), full kitchen.. The finishes inside and out were perfectly done to match the place. We stayed a week and saw a total of 4 cars come and go. Waking up to see cows getting milks and walking to see the lambs down the lane were highlights of our trip. Casey and his family were awesome hosts. We enjoyed the fresh eggs for breakfast as well. We honestly can’t wait to go back!
Very clean and peaceful. Rural, country roads.
This great little place may take several back roads to find, but it is a true gem back in the country. This was perfect for us,good bed, quiet, clean,& tastefully decorated. The host provided several nice extras, like farm fresh eggs! Wish we could have stayed longer!
