Eurunderee Post Office History

The first Eurunderee Post Office was established in the 1870s. It was located three kilometres north of the Old Post Office Cottage in the home of Henry Lawson’s father, the first postmaster. The ruins of the home can still be visited today.

The Post Office moved to the its current location in the 1920s where it operated until 1961. The cottage also included the Eurunderee telephone exchange, servicing the local community.
As testament to its rich history, the current owners preserved the old post office located at the front of the Old Post Office Cottage.

The Roth family moved to the Mudgee region in the early 1800s, forming a significant part of Mudgee’s early history. Adam Roth established the Craigmoor Vineyard in 1858 (now Oatley Vineyard and Restaurant).

The Post Office Cottage was built for the Roth family by George Muller. Edna Riddle, granddaughter of Adam Roth, lived in the cottage until 1999. Her mother had been the postmistress during the period the Post Office was operating.

The house was fully renovated and extended in 2013.

Well-looked after historic property in beautiful grounds surrounded by vineyards, kangaroos and birds. Lovely to be far away from home and an easy drive to Mudgee. Tranquil is another word that comes to mind! Thank you

The cottage exceeded our expectations! It was spotlessly clean, beautifully presented, and full of thoughtful details—like a welcoming bottle of wine and a delicious selection of cheeses. We especially appreciated the peaceful ambiance and stunning surroundings, which made for a truly relaxing getaway.Anita was a fantastic host: friendly, helpful, and quick to respond to any questions. The location was perfect—just a 5-minute drive to the town centre and close to everything we needed. We highly recommend this cottage for a tranquil escape, and we would absolutely stay here again.Peter

My first time to Mudgee and I’m so glad we didn’t stay in town. This cottage is right in the vineyards, a real escape to the countryside. Anita was so helpful and the house is cosy with all amenities catered for. Loved our stay!

The Old Post Office was perfect for our stay. Lovely accommodation with everything you would need for a break. Vines in the back garden, and importantly, very close to all the wineries. Worth noting very easy to find with easy parking. Will stay again for sure.

This is a wonderful property. The location is fabulous, just outside Mudgee with views across the vineyards. The house is a truly comfortable, well appointed home with a great kitchen and outdoor spaces. Our host was responsive to communications and we really appreciated the extra touches like the welcome wine, milk etc. Would absolutely recommend.
