Stayed Mar 27, 2026Had a marvelous time on a long weekend. This was the perfect cozy place for a couples’ retreat. The house is very modern considering its history and age. It’s located in a quiet neighborhood just a couple blocks from Lake Tomahawk and all the activities available there. For walkers, it’s just 10-15 minutes from downtown. It’s an uphill walk for the first part, but so worth it when you don’t have to worry about parking! The upstairs bedroom is comfortable (VERY comfy bed!) with its own 1/2 bath. The only shower is in the ground floor bathroom. There’s a second bed in a nook off of the kitchen, so it comfortably sleeps more than 2 people, but it’s a very intimate space and would get crowded quickly with more adults. The hot tub does have privacy screening on both sides, but it also faces the houses in the back across the alley. This small but mighty house has pretty much everything you need including a well stocked kitchen, TVs in each bedroom and the sitting room upstairs, an airy deck, fire pit, washer/dryer, and an overall sense of bright relaxation! The host is wonderful! He was easy to communicate with and so very welcoming. I will 100% stay at the Mac House again the next time we’re looking for time in Black Mountain! The perfect home base escape to catch your breath for a while.

Stayed Aug 15, 2025Perfect home for a little weekend getaway! It was so fun to explore this area but then be able to go back to such a charming and comfortable space. It was convenient to everything in Black Mountain but it was also a quick and easy drive to Asheville. The home was stocked with all the essentials, plenty of linens, and fun games/books. The host was communicative and had plenty of recommendations for us during our stay. We hope to be able to visit again soon!

Stayed Feb 3, 2025We enjoyed our 4 night stay in your sweet cottage. Loved the upstairs lounge, bedroom and patio with access to the hot tub! The kitchen was compact but well stocked and the location was perfect. We walked to the lake every day. The shower is a bit tiny, but other than that, the cottage was perfect for us!

Stayed Apr 14, 2025We had such a great stay at the Mac House visiting Black Mountain for the first time. The house lives large despite its small stature with an upstairs/downstairs as well as front and back decks our family of 3 including teenager had plenty of room to spread out.The house is clean, everything works and has such a cool aesthetic and vibe. Center of black mountain is an easy 15 min walk and minutes to drive. Montreat is very short drive and all the hiking trails there seemed to be open. Downtown Asheville about 15-20 min drive. We loved our stay and will make Mac House our new destination and launching point for future drips to Asheville area!

Stayed Aug 22, 2024This home was just great - it was probably our favorite place we’ve ever stayed. Very well equipped with necessary items, comfortable, and so cute. Not to mention the hot tub! Walking distance to Black Mountain and Tomohawk Lake. Highly recommend, we will be back.

Stayed Jul 21, 2024Easy check in and out with everything you need in an experience of a “small” home! The property is exactly how stated and pictured. The location is perfect with easy access to all Black Mountain has to offer, and a short drive to Asheville. We had a bear visit for a late night snack from the trash bin (I still choose to believe it was a raccoon) and the owners were very responsive to that and felt like you were talking with a friend. You can’t go wrong staying here!
