About this space:

The Gage/Murphy Mansion is a crown jewel from the early days of Prescott and located just 2 blocks away from Courthouse Square and Whiskey Row. Originally constructed in 1895 as the family home of business tycoon E.B. Gage, and later railroad tycoon Frank M. Murphy, this restored monument of local history has been just steps away from the heart of Prescott for over 125 years.

The space:

The entire home is 7274 sq ft with a total of 10 units spread out amongst 3 floors and a basement, each unique to one another in size, layout, and design – come back and stay at them all for a different experience each time! You will not find another gem like this in all of Prescott.

Unit 1 - “The Lily Room” is on the main floor (1st level) and is approx. 675 sq ft with 2 beds/1 bath. The space has 1 large bedroom with a king size bed and 32” TV, a living room with a 42” TV, a dining room, bathroom with a stand-up shower, and a full kitchen for your use and enjoyment. The living room has a pull-out queen size sofa bed for another sleeping space.

Guest access:

The building itself has two main entrances. One is through the front door of the home which can be accessed from the front porch on the north side of the house that faces Gurley St. The other is located through the Mansion’s side door on the West side of the building, which you can see from S Alarcon St. The side door is closer to the parking, but the main entrance is a bit more “grand” – feel free to use either.

Unit 1’s entrance is best accessed through the Mansion’s side door on the West side of the building. Enter the building through there and the door to “The Lily Suite” will be right in front of you. There’s an immediate drop off when you first enter the room so please watch your first step.

Other things to note:

Please respect and take care of the home during your stay. Much of it is original and cannot be replaced.

As much of it is original please expect some creaking floors and other noises and sights that come with a home that’s well over 100 years old. We think it adds to the appeal! But not everyone may think the same way so, just a heads up 😊.

Parking is first come first serve and is limited to 1 vehicle per unit. There is an upper level parking lot accessed via the private road immediately to the south of the building, and a smaller lower level parking lot on the same level as the building. Street parking is also available.

The location is amazing - just 2 short blocks from the square! However, like any other hotels or stays that are near a city center there may be some noise (mostly passing traffic) to deal with. The south side and lower floor rooms (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 2B) are quieter. And the ones closest to Gurley St (4, 7, 1B) are slightly noisier. Some guests notice it, others don’t, but we thought it deserved at least a mention to consider when booking.

All rooms have at least 1 portable A/C unit for those summer months when it can get a little warm. The larger units have 2 in them. There are fans in each room as well. For the winter months there is a boiler system that generates heat for the house and all rooms.

All TV’s are subscribed to Hulu Live TV which includes 75+ channels and all Hulu content. Other streaming apps are installed but depending on the service you may need to login to them using your own account info to access content. Please log out of them before leaving to prevent the use of your account by others.

All guests have access to the common areas of the home as well as the outside common areas. While you are free to explore the inside of the Mansion please be considerate of other guests that may be staying and do your best not to disturb them, including keeping noise down to a reasonable level.

There is a shared laundry room on the south side of the building. Laundry supplies are not provided but there are 2 washers and 2 dryers available for use if you provide your own.

A commercial water softener is connected to the house. Its still not advisable to drink directly from the faucet but the showers and linens should feel nice! Enjoy!

Please read the Guest book in the unit for more details on the Mansion, it’s unique history, important house rules, and other useful info.

We want you to have the most comfortable and enjoyable stay possible, so if there’s anything we can do to make your stay better please just let us know!

HAVE A GREAT STAY WE ARE THRILLED TO HAVE YOU!!

The property was adorable and perfect for what we were looking for during our stay in Prescott. Communication was fantastic with property owner. Unfortunately our stay was short & will be looking forward to coming back for a longer stay

I loved staying here! It was super clean, spacious, and a fabulous location. It was just a short walk to Prescott's downtown and all the shopping and restaurants it had to offer! Everything about it was easy- the parking, the keyless entry to get inside. It is a historic, beautiful old building and I enjoyed reading about its history. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Check in all done online. Electronic key pads. Nice location as only 2 short blocks to square. Comfortable bed and enjoyed the space. Limited space in bathroom but ok. Only item was radiator heat on and so hot we had to run portable ac just to be comfortable. A nice stay.

We had a great stay at The Mansion. It was pretty warm in the apartment when we arrived. We messaged the owner and they adjusted the furnace for us and it was comfortable from there on out. Would stay again. Thank you!

The room was very homey & welcoming. We were in town for a wedding and it was nice to be able to walk to all of the restaurants and to the venue. The bed was comfortable and there was a lot of paper products along with shampoo, conditioner & soap.

Very charming and full of character. Bed was comfortable and linens were good quality. It was very clean and quiet. My only suggestion (minor) there was no curtain in window overlooking kitchen sink. There was a sheer overlooking living room and entrance to bathroom. Daylight is wonderful but we prefer (especially at night) having ability for privacy. Would stay again since it had so many wonderful qualities

Location is great. Stayed 2 weeks. Mansion is nice but needs some simple improvements. Window coverings were appalling. Even had 1 window with no curtains at all. Others didn't fit or were see thru shear and allowed the sun and heat to come thru. Property lights lit up the whole unit all the time. Should be an easy fix, don't know why it hasn't been done. Also, description says housekeeping included. We stayed 2 weeks and there was not any housekeeping. 2 swamp coolers in the unit worked ok, but were so noisy you could not cool and sleep at the same time, or watch TV. Lastly, description says Hulu was included. I never had it, always wanted a login that I didn't have.

The room was pretty shabby. The furniture was worn and needed a good cleaning. The wood on the bed frame was worn and scratched. None of the furniture or decorations seemed to go together. There was not enough soap or shampoo for two people for four days. The swamp cooler helped keep the temperatures livable in only the bedroom and was really loud.

The Lilly Suite at the Mansion by the Square was clean, comfortable, and just a short walk to Whiskey Row. The back courtyard was great. There are a couple of tables, and the area was well shaded. Several people stayed at the mansion while we were there, but you'd hardly notice. Our suite was very quiet and relaxing. This is a great place to stay for one or two people as an alternative to a hotel. I highly recommend.

Really nice property to stay at. We chose it because it’s only 5min walk to downtown and whiskey row. The room was clean and perfect for our weekend stay. Comfortable bed, living space with tv, bedroom cooling unit and ceiling fans all to help us feel comfortable. Everything we needed to relax after a day and night downtown being touristy. Quiet, safe location. We will definitely be back.

We absolutely loved The Lily Suite! Had everything you could need (fully stocked kitchen, smart TV, lots of room to spread out) and more (nearby parking, walk out deck and darling patio). We parked our car when we arrived and walked everywhere we needed to go (grocery stores, square, restaurants, coffee shops, etc). The host was very responsive and accommodating and we hope to stay here again for our next visit! Highly recommend.

The Lily Suite was very clean and comfortable for three of us. It is a great choice for those looking to relax. Even though there were other guests staying at the mansion, our suite was very quiet. This location is within walking distance to Whiskey Row, restaurants and all the shops. It was the perfect place for a Girl's Getaway weekend.

We stayed in the Lily Suite for the last full week of September. The suite has a comfortable layout, especially so to folks who admire historical homes and buildings. Antiques thoughtfully mixed with the modern amenities that we all appreciate. Comfortable bed, nice, clean bathroom, nice kitchen. Whats not to love? Attentive, responsive staff too!

The Lily Suite at the Mansion by the square was a fantastic property which we would recommend to anyone. My only regret is that it is not available next year during Prescott's Frontier Days as we would rent it again. The space was clean with lots of room and had all the necessary amenities. The location to downtown Prescott was perfect as well. We have owned and stayed at short term rental properties for over 10 years and this one is hands down one of the best!
