Stayed Mar 9, 2026This was a lovely property and it’s clear a lot of thought went into the interior design. Temperature of the home was comfortable, everything we needed for both our infant and toddler were readily available (crib, blankets, cups) and we were even able to do a load of laundry which was a life saver. Home was very close to the National Park. Would highly recommend!

Stayed Feb 2, 2026The Jungalow was very clean and had everything needed. We only spent two nights and found the location to be perfect for exploring Volcano National Park. We found the water pressure to be really, really weak, but completely understandable. We found out the hard way that two showers at the same time is not possible. Loved the little gas fireplace.

I stay in Volcano often and I love that this home is set back nice and far from the main highway. No traffic sounds at all. Just you, the rainforest, and the birds. Host was super responsive and I LOVED the farm stand a few doors down the street. Get the haupia with POG sauce. Nom.

Stayed Jul 11, 2025So near National Park that we could take a break at the house during rain. Very well equipped kitchen with Kurdig and great tea selection. If you need groceries, buy them at the General Store in the park at the military camp. Open 8-8 and has everything. Much better than the grocery store in Volcano Village which is not even as big as some we’ve seen in the high Sierras for hikers. Only complaint in Jungalow is need more light in every room.

Stayed Jun 27, 2025This home is the perfect location for exploring Volcanoes National Park. It was cozy, clean, spacious, and very well equipped. It had everything we needed. We loved the string lights on the front porch, electric fireplace, comfy beds, and chatty chickens in the yard. The owners thought of everything you could need - the coffee, shampoo and conditioner, and laundry detergent were really thoughtful touches to include. The home also offered privacy and solitude, yet it is located in a neighborhood close to the park and restaurants. The Jungalow was easily accessible coming from either Hilo or the Kona side. I would highly recommend it to anyone coming to stay in the area. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect stay!

Stayed Apr 3, 2025We only stayed 2 nights but I wish we had booked 4 nights. The home was spotless and had absolutely everything we needed. All three beds were so comfortable (a little softer than we are use to, but so cozy). The home is decorated with so much thought, and was a wonderful place to spend time, with plenty of space for 4 adults. The location is perfect if you want easy access to the national park, which is about a 5 minute drive. Some small restaurants and shops in the small town. When we wanted more options, we drove the 40 minutes into Hilo which was an easy drive. The roads are excellent and there is so much to do in and around Hilo. We spent each morning sitting on the front lanai watching the chickens and chicks wander around the yard. There is a full coffee station stocked with coffee, tea, cocoa and everything you need which was a nice touch. Laundry with plenty of soap, plenty of towels and we loved all the blankets in each room. Thank you! Would absolutely stay again.

The beds were very comfortable and it was nice having 2 full baths. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Just a wonderful stay. My only comment is not about the accommodations but just to plan ahead from a food perspective. We stopped at a grocery store on the way out of Hilo and bought food as a lot of restaurants close early.

Stayed Feb 11, 2025Very very conveniently located! It's about ten minutes from Volcanoes National Park, and not too far from other areas of interest as well. We visited from Kona so the difference in climate was extremely refreshing. Love the consideration placed in the small things too, like heated blankets and individual space heaters. It does get a little chilly in the evening at that altitude but I love the cooler nights. Thanks for the opportunity to stay!

Stayed Feb 13, 2025Staying in this jungle oasis, it's hard to imagine how close you are to an active volcano and all the destruction and lava flows there. The house is even prettier than in the pictures, and the landscaping which seems completely natural is gorgeous. The beds are very comfortable with soft, warm comforters for the chilly nights at that elevation. Wifi was excellent and living and dining rooms were quite comfortable. Our host was wonderful with excellent communication before our arrival and she left several notes and information about the area that made us feel right at home. The small village of Volcano has the basics and the people are welcoming. If you like Thai food, you must go to the Tuk Tuk Food truck at the Volcano golf course. Servings are large and her food is the best. We really enjoyed staying at a place that was very much tropical old Hawaii and hope to return in the future.

Stayed Jan 2, 2025This property is awesome. Cleanliness is great. The kitchen is very well equipped with two coffee options (Keurig and a French press), and air fryer, and multiple utensils, dishes, etc. The grounds are beautiful. The location is awesome--six minutes driving time to the visitor center. However, for such a level of property (and the price), the mattresses really need to be switched out. They are so soft that they form around your body, and you cave in. Otherwise, the property is flawless--well equipped and really cute decor.

Stayed Dec 11, 2024We drove to the property around 6 PM. It was pouring cats and dogs, Goggle map did a good job of directing us to the property. It was pitch dark as we walked towards the door. (Flashlight would help or use your cell phone.) With constant rain everything around is bit slippery but that is to be expected.Rooms were well furnished and gas heater kept us warm. It can comfortably house six adults. Pantry had some basic groceries, but you should shop at Walmart/Foodland before you reach the house. You sleep to the pitter-patter sound of the rainfalls and wake up to the playful yapping of the family of hens. (Wish I we could have that experience daily!) We left at 6:30 AM to hike at Kīlauea Iki & Crater Rim Trail( 15 minutes drive from the house) It was a family friendly hike for most part. It was a 3 hours hike. I recommend carry hiking trails if you are not so athletic and also doing it counter clockwise. First hour is through a rain forest. Very family friendly. Young children can do it. There after for about half mile section is uneven. After that it is 45 minute walk on the crater. Finally you need to climb up the rainforest for about 30 minutes. We were back at the house by 10:30. Finished lunch and went for the crater rim drive at 1 PM. Returned at 6 PM and relaxed.Best way to to enjoy the volcano national park is to stay close to it and leave early in the morning. It does get bit too crowded later in the day. Check out mauna loa if time permits.

Stayed Aug 30, 2024We were surprised that water pressure was greatly compromised off and on throughout this stay . Our warm shower would slow to a trickle, and same in the kitchen. We understand using a catchment and pumps to supply water to a home can be tricky in remote Hawaii. A heads -up would have made us feel better. Though it may be nice to have some foods left by previous guests such as ketchup, etc, generally believe the fridge should be cleaned out after each guest. There was outdated cream, for example, eggs, butter- cannot be sure if safe to eat-best to clean out. Same with pantry-many half empty boxes of crackers. Kitchen supply was running low-dish soap, for example. Lastly would suggest that if manager wants to impress guests of cleanliness, bedding should be requested to be removed as guest exits.

Stayed Jul 25, 2024Hello Jennifer. My family and I stayed at Jungaloo for a nite. It was a really nice experience for all is. The house was lovely. It was cozy and decorated with unique furnishings which were really awesome. The outside was beautiful with all of the different plants and foliage. The sounds from crickets, frogs and birds chirping and plants swaying in breeze was nice. There was however one big negative about our stay. The house really needed to be cleaned. Here are some of the issues you may want to address for future. - Spider webs some with live spiders throughout house -About one inch or more of dust under beds - Floors were dirty. We all wore socks sine we did not want to wear outside footwear in house. - Kitchen counters and dining table were sticky and needed a good wipe down - bugs that had been squished on walls and just left there. - Bathroon faucets and sinks needed to be cleaned - Shower curtains were moldy - Toilets needed to be cleaned inside and out - Large dust balls around fireplace - Accumulation of white dirt on ranch style windows above front door Basically house just needs a good cleaning. We would love to stay there again and possibly recommend family and friends to stay there but not under current circumstances of cleanliness. I hope you will take my comments under consideration as it is a very lovely place to stay at. Thank you.
