Very nicely kept property. Plenty of space and great proximity to event venues. We would happily stay again.
Nice, spacious, and clean. The host was wonderful an I would recommend to everyone!
This is our 2nd time using the Harper House for our annual retreat. In fact, the ladies requested that we stay there again. There is enough space indoors and outdoors to convene and eat. The beds were comfy and the clawfoot tubs were put to good use. Yvette has done a great job curating this 1900s home. She checked in on us to make sure our needs were met. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, despite being close to Woodward Ave. Will stay here again. Thank you, again.
My friend’s and I had a wonderful time and enjoyed the home immensely. The home was clean, well maintained, and well furnished. The host was very responsive.
I went into this with high hopes - as the listing was a little unclear as to bed configuration, I emailed with Yvette for help. She was friendly and helpful. Check-in was OK, although we arrived after dark and we couldn’t get in at first, until a phone call with Yvette while she was on vacation in Aruba made it possible. No robes/slippers unless prearranged. The home was generally clean, although trying to see out the front window on a sunny day was difficult so my brother cleaned it as best he could. The beds were plentiful but quite hard, and (at least) ours was covered with a plastic cover. We went to remove it as it was very uncomfortable and discovered it was because the mattress was disgusting - stained & discolored. The bathroom on the 2nd floor had a very foul odor upon our arrival, and we didn’t complain at the time-it was gone by morning. There was a burn-mark in the throw blanket in one of the bedrooms - not pleasant but no big deal. The drains in the 2nd floor bath drained very slowly-we just dealt with it. The back yard was lovely, but the deck furniture was filthy until I washed the tables. Two of the blankets they sell were crumpled on the couches. All in all, not perfect but pretty great stay, but now we are being charged almost $500 for “excessive dirt, clogged drains and burn in blanket”. We left the house in great condition, started the dishwasher & removed kitchen trash. I have an excellent rating on VRBO, and am very upset & disputing it.
We enjoyed the house. Had plenty of room for 11.
Due to early flights. The host allowed us to check in early and was there to greet us. Yvette was very understanding of our situation Although we did not meet the 1st time, our family felt as if we had. Very clean inside, comfortable beds and house was kept warm during the 25 degree weather...Its a no brainer!!!
So glad we booked the Harper House! As a group of 8 we had plenty of room to stretch out, everyone had their own bed, the 3 bathrooms were really nice and 2 had claw foot bathtubs. Everything worked, even the ice maker! The house had thoughtful design and looked original but has been updated.
Really enjoyed our stay at the Harper house. Great communication with the host and the property was clean, spacious, and as pictured. Our only complaint was that the beds are very firm and many beds and pillows were covered with plastic, which meant they retained an uncomfortable amount of heat. We would stay again, however!
Ivette’s home was beautiful! She was so welcoming and made us feel right at home. She was also so accommodating and allowed us to check in early! The home was perfect for our bridal party. I would definitely stay here another time!
The property was wonderful! Lovely host... Yvette was very prompt to answer our questions, concerns and requests. A few electrical glitches because they want to maintain the integrity of property but otherwise everything went well. Also, close to our downtown outings a great plus. 15 ladies thoroughly enjoyed ourselves without disturbing the whole neighborhood. Will highly recommend!
My husband and I and three other couples stayed at this beautiful home away from home to attend a concert at Ford Field. This house has a lot of character and is very welcoming and inviting. All of the women especially loved the interior decorating and the special touches that the homeowner has put into this beauty. The men enjoyed the heated patio after the concert while the women relaxed inside in the living room (we love your grey couch Yvette!). Our host was very accommodating and responsive before and during our stay with any questions we had. It is very evident that a lot of love has gone into this home. I would highly recommend the Harper House! You should be very proud Yvette!!
This property has all 5 stars and this is why I chose the home. The pictures are beautiful and are very accurate to what you will find inside. The home is immaculate in cleanliness and in charm. The home itself and each room has a dedication to the home owners family and I read every one and really could feel the love of the home. Once you are inside you truly feel like you stepped into an upscale home. But I would be remiss if I do not mention that the exterior area of the home is not pictured and I should have looked up Highland Park before booking. We are from over 6 hours away and had never been to Detroit before. I wish I would have been better prepared for what the area looked like before I arrived. The alley that we were supposed to park in was overgrown and bordering an abandoned house (though some construction crews were there when we checked out). We chose to park on the street across from the home. This home is definitely a standout on the street, though the home owner says she has a close relationship with the neighbors and it seems to be true. People said hello to us and once we were there for a bit we felt safe. We were there for a concert at Ford and having to go out at midnight to pick up the concertgoers and drive down Woodward Street put us a bit on edge. That being said, we enjoyed the house very much and it served our purposes for the night. We ate at Buddy’s pizza as was recommended in the guest book and we got pastries from Astoria which were amazing! The kids enjoyed the concert so at the end of it all the stay was good. Please make sure that when booking you explore the area and know what you are booking but the home itself is wonderful and the homeowner is very responsive.
I hosted a retreat in Detroit and used the Harper House for accommodations and meeting. The ladies loved the house and the special touches- toiletries, shea butter body creme (made by a local vendor), and bathrobe and slippers - were provided. The house is large and well decorated. The beds were comfortable and the water pressure was great. My only concern was no washer dryer for guest use. I guess I missed that when booking The ladies loved Detroit after their stay and were excited about coming back. Yvette was great. Very responsive and even greeted us before we left for the airport. Highly recommended.
We had an awesome experience. The homeowner met me at the property and showed us where everything was in the home and how to operate everything. She was very friendly. Everything was clean and well stocked. All of the dishes were clean and spotless. We had a Girls Night with a massage therapist, dinner and games. Each and everyone of us agreed we would use this property again. It was 12 of us and we were able to sleep comfortably. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Went down for a Tigera game that was canceled unfortunately ? but made the most of our night away at Highland Park. Went out downtown to several places and ubered back. Had a great stay.
A blessed space with tons of character, we couldn’t have had a better time in a structure! The kitchen is well appointed and the enclosed parking area was a major plus, as the neighborhood itself is properly bombed-out, tragically…the filial honor of this blessed offering is palpable, a joy to inhabit…thank you for everything, Yvette, God bless you
