Relish the inspiring sunrises, breathtaking sunsets, awesome moon rises, and starry night sky from this special getaway cabin. Immerse yourself in nature, including Joshua trees, blooming cacti, and a unique rocky ridge line. Close to Joshua Tree Village. 15 minutes from the National Park entrance. Newly restored 50's cabin perfect for solo guests or couples. Beautiful hikes out the back door, or just stay in and re-center. Perfect as a home base for exploring the area or as a creative retreat

An extraordinary place to hang out for a day or a week. The cabin sits on 10 acres of native landscaping. A great escape from the heavily traveled park entrance area, you will arrive via a well-maintained dirt road across highway 62 to get to your getaway cabin.

Minutes from Joshua Tree Village, yet away from the crowds. Stark, beautiful and wondrous…so different from urban life. Magnificent views. Hiking and mountain biking riding starts right behind the property.

To the stars and back…If you are lucky enough to be here on a full moon or meteor shower...grab a glass of wine, sit out on the patio and you will be spellbound!

Happiness is found in the most simple things, like quiet luxury. We have completely renovated the interior of the cabin. These are retreat-worthy accommodations. Kitchen is well outfitted for cooking your own meals. Pleasant dining area, comfortable queen-sized bed, and sparkling clean all around. The living room couch folds into a futon if needed. We provide wireless internet. The cabin is equipped with a wall air conditioning unit, fans, and electric heaters. Detached garage parking is available.

The cabin is co-located on the property with the owners’ home, each building having its own separate and distinct area of the land. The cabin faces away from the main house, creating its own private sanctuary. Sahara and Pepito are the owners’ little dogs who are very friendly and love to come say hello and stop by for pets.

San Bernardino County Permit #: CESTRP-2020-00263

Enter the property off a winding dirt road using an individualized code provided 24 to 48 hours before check in. You are welcome to enjoy the cabin and explore the lower half of the property. Guests will not have access to the owners’ main house or areas around or behind the main house.

Check in and check out is on your own. We live on the property, we will be available during your stay if needed, but we don't intend to contact you or invade your space unless you need us.

Taking a walk in our neighborhood is remote, unique, and very beautiful. Full-arc rainbow sightings are not uncommon. The neighborhood is known as Windy Gap, which is a unique, quiet pocket of peaceful simplicity that is off the beaten path of the average tourist trek. The property is on the north side of Hwy 62 that is opposite the Park entrance. This means the stellar view from the cabin looks out over the valley where Joshua Tree nestles in. If you are feeling adventurous, there is protected federal BLM land for a 4 mile loop hike right out the cabin door. Much of the undeveloped area around the neighborhood is protected by the Mojave Desert Land Trust.

Although the California desert is generally a dry environment, heavier rainy seasons may bring about more abundant than usual wildlife. This includes cute little native inhabitants such as humming birds, quail, road runners, jack rabbits, and cotton tail bunnies…. as well as….coyotes, insects, spiders, lizards, snakes, and moths. As such, we advise to keep all non-screened windows and doors closed if you are uncomfortable with uninvited nature guests. If you find yourself surrounded, please do not hesitate to call for assistance.
CHECK-IN TIME is between 3pm-9pm. We recommend arriving before dark!

CHECK-OUT TIME is 11am.

The gate must be closed and locked at all times.

No smoking indoors. Smoking outdoors is permitted away from the cabin only, using an ashtray. We live in the wild and brushfire is a real possibility. We will keep your security deposit if the house smells like smoke.

In general: No firearms. No drones. No ORVs. However, if you have special requests for bringing your dirt bikes or ORVs on a trailer for further recreational use away from the property, please email us in advance.

Absolutely no commercial photography or filming is permitted on site without previous agreement with us. Additional fees apply.

If you bring children, you are responsible for their safety in and outside the cabin, and note that the old mining equipment and other artifacts in the landscape are decoration only and not play structures.

Do not harm or harass the wildlife in any way.

We reserve the right to keep your security deposit if the house rules have been broken.

A relaxing weekend away with amazing views both day and night. Not quite as secluded as I had expected, but still very private. The Vrbo was so cozy and the vibe was on point. A great place to enjoy the desert landscape and wildlife.

The cabin is located in the middle of a desert but with many beautiful spots. The host's house is nearby, so you may get help easily. You can find Walmart or ALDI within 10 mins. But the place is quiet and peaceful, especially at night. The whole cabin is surprisingly clean. Nicole is very nice and helpful. We really enjoy the stay.

The cabin was just what we needed for the beginning of our trip...a nice clean QUIET place to put our feet up so we could get out hiking the next day. Hosts were very kind and polite and the cabin was very clean. Bathroom could use some updating but everything worked fine and all was in order. Seriously quiet even though you could see the town and roads down below...could not hear anything... enjoyed it very much.

This was a lovely, clean small cabin. Great location. Host was welcoming and kind. The problem was no shade at all outside! Sail cloth that is shown in all pictures as shade did not exist. Full sun from 6:30am to 7:00pm. Disappointing.

We enjoyed our stay at the Windy Cabin. The location is in the right proximity for taking day trips to the park and surrounding area. The cabin is small and cozy with most things you need for a short stay. Our 7 night stay was probably too long for the accommodations. The refrigerator is very small, an apartment size would be more appropriate as we made the choice to eat most of our meals out. The location was not as remote as we expected, however it offers a very pleasant area for hiking. I walked most mornings and spotted jack rabbits, a variety of birds, and an occasional lizard. If you enjoy nature this is your spot! I would recommend providing a few more details in the cabin manual, such as availability of towels and other needs. Overall perfect long weekend location for a single person or couple as described. Access to the area offerings, ideal! Be sure to take in the park, shopping in Joshua Tree’s unique stores, and excellent pizza at Sky High Pie! Enjoyable week! Thank you!

Cabin at windy gap was the perfect place to relax and share meals after exploring Joshua Tree National Park and surroundings. The cabin was clean, well equipped, and became our home away from home. The property is nicely decorated and the flora and fauna are a great intro to what the area has to offer. The hosts are hospitable and communicative. Highly recommended.

Perfect spot! The cabin was cozy yet spacious for two people. It had everything we needed to relax while being comfortably protected from the blistering heat outside (A/C works great!). You feel tucked away with a great view and yet you're just a short drive into town and to the park. Would happily return.
