Comfortable and convenient
This was a great place to stay. A few pro and cons. Cons -no bbq near the home- could be one one the deck - have to open and close the gate coming and going due to their dogs - very limited parking - cabin is not lake front so you have to walk a far ways between the dog gated area which lead to stepping into fecal matter - dogs barked and not one was not friendly . We love dog but not allowed to bring ours but we still had to deal with someone else’s dogs. Needed more bedding and wasn’t available with out requesting and we got question on our occupancy -told to be aware they are on a well and to be aware of our water usuage - Cabin is only upper level - cabin was freezing cold as we arrived and trying to figure out how to turn on the heat was a challenge Cons - beautiful home - lots of space in the kitchen and living seating space - beds were comfortable - Outside Nelson which was a nice quiet stay but close enough if you wanted to visit Nelson We enjoyed our stay for as short as it was. It would be more accessible if we didn’t have to deal with the gate.
our friends and my husband and I totally loved this place. We would stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a truly comfortable place.
From the moment we arrived for our week long stay, Catherine and Arnie were warm and welcoming hosts. It was really fun to get to know them a bit and our kids absolutely adored them! We were looking for a place to stay this summer that was on the lake and clean, and their guest home was the perfect find. My only regret is that we couldn’t rent it for longer! The accommodations were spotless, beds were very comfortable, and it really had everything we needed for our stay. It is a perfect little spot to experience lake life in BC! If you’re looking for 5 star luxury on the lake, this spot might not be for you (you’ll need to pay a lot more for that on the lake!) But we weren’t looking for glamour, we love the down to earth Canadian summer lake life, and you’ll find it at Catherine and Arnies! It is a simple, tasteful, accommodation and not at all in the least run down. We rented paddle boards and canoes just up the road. Apparently there are great day trips for all the summer/winter activities, but we are beach and water people when it’s hot out and couldn’t peel ourselves away from their private beach. There’s also an amazing public beach with beautiful sand just a paddle away! We rented a boat for one day and explored the greater Kootney Lake ... stunning ! So worth it. Nelson is just a 10 minute drive away, so groceries (we loved the Nelson Co-op! Ask for a free visitor membership!) were never an issue . All in all, it was the relaxing, no stress, summer lake vacation we were looking for!
We booked this place for our silver wedding anniversary and were so disappointed that we had to find somewhere else at really short notice and great cost. To be fair the place is fine depending on what you are looking for. We were looking for a romantic getaway, a waterside place with a beach, a bit of privacy and somewhere that felt a little special - Something we communicated to the owners. The name The Beach House and description implies that the private beach is a key feature, while the photos clearly implied that we had direct access to the water. As it turns out these were out of date photos and completely misleading. The apartment is on top of a garage/work studio outside of which were scattered a collection of paint and other chemical pots, an old filing cabinet and piles of wood. It felt like we had driven into a junk yard. The building is in the driveway of the main property, with neighbours either side and the main house between the apartment and the beach. To access the lake you have to go down a passageway next to the owners house, past their kitchen windows, past their patio and across their garden! The street is in a standard residential neighbourhood, very overlooked and with no view of the lake. Apparently there is a partial view in winter! There is nothing romantic about the location at all, which was particularly upsetting as we had made it clear what we were looking for to the owners. If you are looking for somewhere a bit basic and functional as a base to explore the local area, and don’t mind spending your holiday in someone else’s garden, then this place is fine. However, we felt extremely mislead. We were also promised a refund, which has never materialised. I never expected a full refund but I did hope the owners would accept some responsibility for their misleading marketing and perhaps refund at least half. Given the special occasion we felt the behaviour of the owners was really unkind. They made us feel betrayed and taken advantage of at a time when we should have been celebrating.
This place was beautiful. Everything was perfect from coffee on the doc first thing in the morning to wine Around the camp fire later in the night. The place was spotless and had everything we needed including beach towels. Nelson Kaslo, and Ainsworth where just a short drive so location was perfect. Thanks again Catherine, Arny and family for taking such good care of us.
We had to go to the Nelson area due to a family member being in a terrible accident, this was the perfect place to stay. It’s absolutely beautiful, quiet and peaceful. Catherine, Arnie, Ruby and Poppy were the perfect host and we can’t wait to visit again under happier circumstances!!
We had a great Easter Getaway, enjoyed everything the area had to offer, and having the perfect home base to come back to. Thanks to our kind hosts, very knowledgeable and helpful. Your property is lovely, and your efforts are an asset to your community.
Beautiful 2 bedroom accommodation just outside the heart of Nelson, BC. Clean, and comfortable! Located in a quiet location near the lake. Catherine and Arnie are great hosts, and accommodated our every need. Arnie even did my laundry as the units washer and dryer had yet to be hooked up in the rental. It is now hooked up and completes, and compliments the unit. The gas fireplace is a lovely addition, and creates a nice ambiance. While there was no TV........who needs one in such a wonderful place, and area. Thanks so much again Arnie and Catherine! Will see you again in June!
Thank you for sharing your house with us this week! We had a wonderful time skiing and snowshoeing at Whitewater with our daughters. The house was very clean and comfortable for our family of four and a convenient base for the outings to nearby attractions. The setting by the lake in the Kootenays is exceptionally scenic. Everyone loved our vacation and is looking forward to visiting again. The Janczuk Family: Karolina, Tomek, Iza & Magda
