Ponte de Lima Windmill is a rebuilt windmill from from late 19th century in a mountain just opposite to the center of Ponte de Lima, the oldest village in Portugal. The accommodation is immaculate and looks out onto the mountain and Ponte de Lima villages through large and 360 degree windows. Surrounding the windmill there is a mountain forrest of 1000 square meters part of the property secured all around. The windmill accommodates one family. TV and DVDs will keep the children happy when they are not running and exploring the windmill mountain. This is a green and hilly region of the yet-unspoilt Portugal. It is quiet but it has plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby at reasonable prices. Sightseeing walks from the windmill in the green countryside and river are available from the property.

In 2019, we have rebuilt our windmill from late 19th century in Ponte de Lima, the oldest Portuguese village. See the video of the house and land here: https://youtu.be/I3I1YSCAx58 and stay in a unique place were modern meets heritage. In the renovation project we made all efforts to promote a sustainable lifestyle: granite for walls came from the property, we chose native plants, the water comes from a well in the ground and almost all energy needed is generated from the sun.

In 2024, we have completed a new road from the other side of the hill that allow easier access to windmill by car. The access is still steep when compared to a normal road but now all cars can make it to the top. You can park your car by the entrance of the windmill on the top of the mountain - please check the aerial photos to see the new road - the new road is not shown in the video and If you need more information please contact.

We have a wood fired hot tub next to the windmill on top of the mountain. This is perfect to relax and enjoy the views of north Portugal by day or nigh, during summer or winter! The hot tub heats up with by burning wood in the connected stove and allow you to enjoy the most of your time at the windmill.

The Windmill is in the most Northern part of Portugal, Minho, which is hilly and beautifully green. A place to get away from stressful life, to relax and regain energy. Luxury and cosy interiors and spacious exterior areas with high solar exposure make the Windmill a perfect place to enjoy the North of Portugal all year round. The beautiful mountain slope have many secret corners and you can find pine trees, oak trees, cork oak trees, olive trees and many others. The outside deck with relaxation area is secure and private with furniture, a parasol and BBQ 9both charcoal and Weber gas BBQ), in addition to the stunning views day and night. The local town of Ponte de Lima, the oldest in Portugal is gorgeous. Other villages in north Portugal such as Vila Nova de Cerveira, Valença (fortified town), Caminha are picturesque and interesting. Just a few minutes you can go from the river to coast, green countryside to historical towns, golf to surfing and to enjoy with nice food and wine. Ponte de Lima is famous for vinho verde from the grape Loureiro which is fruity and refreshing.

A drive into Spain for shopping and sightseeing and 'tapas' is very easy from the bridge at Valença (38km by motorway). Porto, Vigo and Viana do Castelo offers some astonishing shopping malls with all the international brands you could hope for under one roof. Of course Porto (less than 1 hour away) is the second capital of Portugal that is famous for Port wine, culture and historic sites. Nightlife is very good at beach places such as Caminha and Baiona, during summer and Vigo all year round.

New Year's eve at the windmill is something special! Ponte de Lima is known for the spectacular fireworks. At the windmill you can see the fireworks of the entire municipality. If you are considering spending New Year's eve in North Portugal this is the perfect spot.

Getting to Ponte de Lima Windmill: flying to Porto is the easiest way to get to Ponte de Lima. It will be necessary to have a car. We will provide detailed directions from Porto airport to the doorstep of the Windmill. It takes less than 1 hour to drive along an almost empty motorway with some spectacular views.

BA, TAP, Easyjet & Ryanair fly to Porto airport. Ryanair also fly to Santiago de Compostela and Vueling to Vigo in Spain which is just over 1 hour from the windmill (on motorway). Bilbao and Santander ferry ports are 7hrs drive to the North.

Perfect for a fantastic get away. After traveling through hotels, guest houses and hostels - this felt like a real home. All the necessary amenities. Host was very responsive and patient with our questions. We are recommending the Mill to our friends as a unique, private, totally relaxing vacation. Loved the hot tub! Thank you Filipe for making us feel at home.

If you long for a quiet little spot of nature, and your own little castle above Ponte de Lima, search no more, this is the place! We simply adored our week at Filipe windmill. The cool apéros on the terrasse, the great meals cooked outside on the BBQ, the star filled night skies…simply lovely. The house has all the modern fixings, a well equipped kitchen and a comfy living room with a view. I was the lucky one who got to sleep in the top floor: a 360 degrees view of Ponte de Lima, the valleys and surrounding mountains kept me up way past my bedtime. If Filipe’s place is available, go.You can thank me after!

The mill is beautifully decorated and very comfortable and luxurious; kitchen fully equiped (even with china!) Terrace overlooking beautiful garden, perfect spots for yoga! As it was quite hot, we used the tub for cooling down instead of as a hot tub. Most of the time there was a comfortable wind on the hill so it was very nice to come home at the mill after a warm day of sightseeing. At our arrival, a very nice vino verde welcomed us! Filipe was very easy to reach and very helpful. Would love to come back, for a little longer than one week! Thanks Filipe for a great stay!

Surrounded by nature with stunning views. You really are alone up there so choose if you want to enjoy maximum privacy and quietness (birds, dogs in the distance, horses somewhere near) Short but very steep driveway up to the property gate but with good grip for the wheels so full speed and up you go. (It surely depends on your type of car and/or your driving skills. We were glad to have a little SUV.) Lovely interior. The photos show exactly what you get. Plenty kitchen utensils for cooking and storing the food for take aways. Very clean from top to floor. The terrace is big and a nice spot to sit, relax and sunbath but is not safe for very little children (or drunk adults) as it is fitted between rocks so that they could stumble and the railing is just metal posts and ropes so they could fall down into the bushes. Contact with the owner was very easy and messages were replied very fast. Very friendly and helpful all the way!

We had a splendid stay. The house was just as described. All amenities described were provided. The owner, Filipe, is very responsive and helpful with any questions. We had no issues. We enjoyed the peacefulness yet close to town. As for the driveway from precious comments, yes it is steep, but we had no issues at all! We followed Felipe’s advice and we were fine.

Well located to discover the north of Portugal and costa verde in Spain. Only reason not to give 5 stars is the challenging driveway. Host was fast to respond to any questions. Thanks Felipe!

Nicely refurbished windmill in a beautiful setting. Great views. Driveway up to the main gate very steep. Would have liked some sort of information sheet in the house telling us things like where to put the rubbish etc. though we worked out everything in the end. We didn't get sent the up to date instructions about how to get to the house but we rang Filipe who was helpful

Our holiday could have been wonderful but for a few unfortunate experiences, which can be put down to the lack of attention to detail and maintenance, such as: Getting to the property: Instructions for the key store are at the ‘old’ driveway; however the ‘how to get the property’ instructions are to the new driveway - the driveways are just under a mile away from each other. For information: UK Sat Nav devices and address details for Portugal do not appear compatible with local addresses/post codes. Even GPS co-ordinates don’t seem accurate. Google earth and research got us to this property. Using the property: No welcome/information pack of any kind. The cutlery drawer is ‘hidden’ within the pan/crockery drawer – discovered after contacting the owner on day 1. Water supply – this ran out on day 2 and day 6 of our stay, in the first instance the property owner took 20+ hours to restore (after multiple messages to the owner), the second instance 5 hours. On day 2 we were left no choice but to contact VRBO to seek alternative accommodation, who were responsive & supportive. Electric – whilst solar powered there is no storage capacity for the gathered electric; therefore there is a reliance on the grid. Overnight of day 7 of our stay, to midday of day 8 we were sporadically without electric (& water once more). Housekeeping & maintenance: The surfaces, linens & towels of the property were pristine; however, many devices (lamps /TV /audio) were unplugged – plugging them in meant finding substantial cobwebs and dust build up. The front & patio door locks were difficult to operate, everything appeared very worn and had to have a particular technique to use. The decking is in dire need of repair – with loose or lifted boards throughout the whole space.
