Note: Since we are right off of Highway 4 there is some traffic noise from our deck and outside. You do not hear the traffic from inside the house with windows closed. There is a positive to this during winter months as winter access is a breeze and you are less likely to get snowed in. Location:
R & R Family Cabin is located in the desirable neighborhood of Lakemont Pines Arnold. Steps away from the Stanislaus National Forest. Highlights of our area is the year round fun it provides from a private lakefront beach in the summer, and in the winter, skiing, tubing and snowboarding are only minutes away in Bear Valley. Hiking, wine tasting, and other activities are available year-round as well.
Lakemont Pines is a private HOA with a beautiful lake and lodge. It has a vintage lake resort feel, and is much quieter and less crowded than other nearby HOAs. Summertime activities abound during the Fathers' Day to Labor Day season, with outdoor movies, and various games and contests down at the lake. Hiking and mountain biking is available right out the front door in any season.
If you've never been to the Arnold area, you're in for a treat! Ideally located in the Stanislaus National Forest, we are 40 minutes from Bear Valley Ski Resort to the east, and 15 minutes from the charming gold rush town of Murphys, with its wine tasting rooms, boutique shopping and gourmet restaurants. Also nearby are Columbia State Park, a preserved gold rush community; Calaveras Big Trees State Park and its giant sequoias; and Railtown 1897 State Historic Park, not to mention golf, winery tours, cave tours, zip lines, horseback riding and more! Yosemite Valley is about 2.5 hours to the south.
Arnold weather is ideal for all-season fun! The warmest months are June through September, with average temps in the perfect upper 70s - low 80s range. The cabin is shady and cool, and the lake water temp is in the mid-70s. Ski season normally begins in December and carries through mid-April. Because we're at 3,500 feet, we get the postcard views without the heavy snow load farther up the hill, which means easier access during the snow season. And spring and fall are normally in the 55 - 65 range -- perfect for checking out the fall foliage in Ebbetts Pass, or visiting Yosemite without the crowds.

The house is very nice and obviously well-maintained. Kitchen, bathroom, and laundry supplies are well-stocked. Everything is clean. The beds are very comfortable. When we first arrived we couldn't turn on the air conditioner (controlled by a Nest unit), but a phone call to Eric solved the problem. He was very helpful. He remotely set and turned on the air conditioner. There were two things we didn't like. We felt we were misled about the road noise from Highway 4. The owners state there is some traffic noise, but if you close the windows you do not hear the traffic noise from inside the house. That's simply not true. We were awakened every morning by the traffic noise, even with the windows closed. The other issue we have is with the driveway. It is steep and curved and you need to pass it and turn around in order to enter it at a good angle. There are 3 separate parking spaces, but there is no room to turn around at the top. We were glad we were driving an SUV, but we still were very uncomfortable with the driveway. So much so that if we had known about it we would not have stayed there. There was nothing about the driveway in the property listing. The day before arrival Kristina told us the driveway was sloped. It was more than sloped. By then it was too late to do anything about it anyway.

The house is very nice and comfortable cabin . The location is very good. This was a great place to sleep and eat while we went off to many outdoor adventures in the area. The summer amenities at the lake included in the hoa weren't available; You can enjoy the lake, but not rent the boats until after father's day.

Enjoyed a relaxing summer vacation at the Lakemont Cabin. Appreciated Kristina’s tip to drive past the steep driveway, turn around at end of road to drive up from that direction.Always a good idea to arrive during daylight to more easily locate the property. Address is posted on the tree at end of driveway. Using the code to enter was easy and seamless. Use of the lake (Lakemont) is a delightful benefit. Be sure parking pass is visible on your dashboard, and keep the “tag” with you at your “beach campsite”. The friendly and professional staff will come by to ask for the tag. AC, WiFi, ceiling fans, bathrooms, kitchen, refrigerator, washer, dryer, and dish washer were all clean and in working order. Comfortable, well-appointed, and obviously a house that is loved by family who enjoys the area. Appreciated the shoe rack outside front door and the clothesline on porch - handy for drying towels and swimsuits! We often come up to Arnold area and would love to stay here again. We don’t feel this is a house for young children or adults with limited mobility - due to steep driveway, uneven terrain, and stairs. However, for our family (all adults) on this trip, the Lakemont Cabin was a delight!
