Great Barrington, Massachusetts
Located in the beautiful Berkshires, MA, the 5000 sqf home is located in a desired neighborhood known as "the Hill.” The sun filled house is on a quiet no outlet road and sits on 2.5 acres of landscaping including blueberry bushes, maple tree, lawns, mature flowers, and custom cobblestone. Connections to the Appalachian trail within 10 minutes. Lake Mansfield is a short 10 min walk. The Green River, with a swimming hole, is a 15 min hike through the woods. The Mahaiwe, a movie theater and the great thriving restaurants, boutiques, toy stores and coffee shops of downtown are a 15 minute walk. Tanglewood is a 20 minute drive.
The house was built in 1910 and has been lovingly renovated and restored from the ground up. Many original details were restored to new condition (windows, radiators and the like) and modern conveniences added. There is central air conditioning, whole home audio system, movie room w/ mounted 65 inch 4k television, surround sound, double pane windows, heated floors in the bathrooms and kitchen. There is a second 4k television in the den for when the kids don't want to watch the same movie as the adults - also with high end surround sound. Time Warner Cable, Sony Playstation, and multiple streaming devices all updated to 4K technology. The gourmet cook's kitchen includes 2 sinks, large granite prep area, Wolf Stove, large Sub Zero, and 2 Bosch dishwashers for easy clean up. The house is oversized but still cozy with brand new sheets from Brooklinen, new towels, lots of blankets, and well designed locally bought furniture and rugs. There are games and a library of classics and NYTimes bestsellers for ages 2 - adult. In keeping with the classic feel, there is a high end record player in the library for afternoons playing chess and cards. Two large wood burning fireplaces make it homey during the winter.
Enjoy the fresh summer air on the large screened in porch, play ping pong, or enjoy a meal in the fresh air on the screened porch dining table. Ample lawns and private outdoor space, especially for an in town property. Weber Grill on large stone patio for for preparing summer meals, nine person sunken hot tub on mahogany deck and a wood swing set and slide set up for the kids.
It is a great property. Easy walking distance to restaurants. Very quite and relaxing.
Gathered here for a 60th birthday weekend with siblings and kids. Plenty of space. Great kitchen. Love the outdoor porch and the hottub. Walking distance to town with lots of great restaurants
On a quiet street and walking distance to town, this renovated Victorian was a great place for the family to relax. Many alcoves for privacy or work were a real plus. Only issue is slow Wi-Fi, but a great overall stay.
We loved the home. It was very conducive to relaxing and spending time with family. There are many spots to hang out in, nap, or read. We enjoyed walking to town for coffee at Fuel each morning. We also did some fantastic hikes. We also loved the fancy appliances and gadgets in the kitchen. And the ping pong table was a nice distraction during the warmest part of the day. The host was very responsive and we will definitely return.
Wonderful house for getting a group together for a weekend get together - plenty of space and common areas to gather and talk, fantastic location, and the owners were very helpful. Everything was ready and easy for us.
This house was perfect for two families each with a young child and pet. Plenty space for all of us and well stocked. Would stay again!
Two families rented this lovely home with our children ages 6 and 8. It was well appointed and cozy even though it is a rather large size home. Easy access to town and groceries as well as to butternut skiing. Very responsive host.
Didier was extremely responsive, and the house was all we had hoped it would be for our family gathering. Everyone was grateful to spend time playing chess, eating together, walking to town, listening to music, and playing games. Linens, pillows and mattresses were top quality, crisp and clean! We loved our stay!! Thank you!!
Second time we and family (10 of us) have stayed here. Spacious. Comfortable. Quiet neighborhood. Hosts extraordinarily helpful and thoughtful. Just a great property and location.
This was a fantastic house for adults and children. Everything was so clean, lots of supplies, well-stocked kitchen (now that I left a garlic press), and lots of space everywhere. We spent a great deal of time on the lovely screened-in porch and outside. Loved the laundry room and huge 3rd floor especially. The owners could not have been more helpful and responded quickly to any of our questions. The area is great--close to town. Lake is a good 20 minute walk (at least with kids).
The home is in a lovely and somewhat private location, and it is only 1.0 miles into the center of Great Barrington, which is a wonderful town with everything that one would need. We took walks every day, and we even discovered a nature preserve only a half a mile away, where we walked quite often. The home not only had plenty of bedrooms, but its common rooms were numerous and quite spacious. Also, our 3 year old grandson loved the very expansive swing/slide/climbing set. There were a couple of issues with the fridge and the air conditioner on the third floor (which we ended up not using), but the owner immediately took care of those issues and was 100% responsive. In fact, he kept reaching out to us to make sure we were OK and satisfied, and he even gave us a partial refund as an accommodation, which he did not have to do but which very much was appreciated by us. Overall, it was a great home to stay at, and the owner could not have been more helpful and gracious.
We had a great time and were very pleased with the location. My family had never been to the Berkshires so they were delighted. Our hosts were extremely responsive as some things weren't ready like the air conditioning system and the grill didn't have gas in it. Who'd have thought we'd have July weather in May? Once the aircon got repaired we were very comfortable. My sister and her husband decided they want to move to the Berkshires from Texas!
We had a great time staying at this property. Unexpectedly, we spent at least 75% of our time in the screened in porch. It was the perfect gathering place in warm weather. There was plenty of room for our large group, and the hosts were very easy to work with. The only thing I’d add is that most of the yard is quite sloped. If you have young toddlers/new walkers in your group, you’ll need to be careful/attentive about letting them play outside.
