Dolores, Colorado
Bear Creek Mountain Lodge has been our family’s home for the past 50+ years. We are happily offering this spacious home for others to enjoy with family and friends. The lodge can accommodate groups up to 20 with 2 fully-equipped kitchens, a large dining room that seats 20, 6 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 3 three-quarter bathrooms, and a deck with incredible views. Nestled on 11 acres surrounded by pristine Colorado wilderness in the Rocky Mountains, this lodge is perfect for family reunions, friend retreats, and more.
Other inviting common areas you’ll love are the sunny dining room and family room with many windows that frame spectacular views of the Dolores River valley, the Bear Creek valley, and the many hummingbirds, warblers, and stellar’s jays on the bird feeders that hang in the windows. Enjoy the second-story deck that is equipped with two tables with umbrellas, a BBQ propane grill, and breathtaking views. On quiet mornings, you may spot deer, elk, or turkey grazing in the meadows above the lodge.
This family-friendly lodge has outdoor games for kids and adults alike. Enjoy some laughter around a game of cornhole or badminton, or select a book from the many options provided and swing in one of the two hammocks. In the evening, grab your family and friends and gather around the outdoor fire pit for some s’mores and stories. If you would prefer to play inside, choose your favorite puzzle or game from our well-stocked “game closet” for all ages. There is a highchair, pack ‘n play, and kids plates, bowls, cups, and utensils for the smaller ones in the group.
There are many opportunities for outdoor activities in the surrounding areas. Get out your fishing rod and go fly fishing in the Dolores River, or catch some rainbow trout at Twin Spruce Ponds (17 miles). Tie up your hiking boots and go for a beautiful hike on the Bear Creek Trail (1 mile away) or Priest Gulch Trail (2 miles away). For those looking for flatter terrain or mountain bike trails, the Boggy Draw Trail System (31 miles) has plenty of options. If the summer heat is getting to you, stop by Dolores Outfitters and rent a paddle board, kayak, or tube to float on McPhee Reservoir (36 miles), and on your way back to the lodge, stop by the Dolores Food Market for a fresh-baked pie and/or the Dolores River Brewery for some craft beer, wood-fired pizza, and possibly live music. Telluride (42 miles) has something for the whole group: restaurants, shops, hiking trails, gondola rides to the top of the mountain, the San Miguel River, and more. The culturally-rich Mesa Verde National Park is 38 miles away and is a must-see for ancient ruins enthusiasts.
Things to note:
- Smoking of any kind is not allowed inside the lodge, but there are two designated areas outside that have ashtrays for use to avoid wildfires.
- Due to our home insurance policy, we are required to have outdoor cameras on the property.
- The WiFi internet speed is 10 Mbps.
We had a wonderful stay at Bear Mountain Lodge! Everything was just like their description said it was. Kindra was very quick to respond if you had questions. Would stay here again?!
Fun
It was a great vacation spot. 12 people in our immediate family and plenty of room to spread out, for sleep, dining and whatever else. Star gazing was wonderful, we brought 2 telescopes. The lodge was really well provisioned, just add food!! 2 laundries! One of the best things were the Hummingbirds!! 2 feeders right outside the dining room windows and SO many hummingbirds!!! Mesmerizing!! And a finch feeder was also busy. I just wish there was a recycling plan. We would have had to take it with us and none of us had the room to. It is a big, comfortable place, well furnished and private. If I could get us all back together again, I would definitely book it again!
extremely peaceful setting. everything you need. truely enjoyed our stay.
Property was well supplied for our family reunion. The two refrigerators was fantastic. Beautiful surroundings in a quiet valley. Hosts were responsive to questions and had everything set up for us.
We loved our stay…only issue was that one of the showers didn’t work and we had a mouse run across the floor in one of the bedrooms. Everything was great! Enjoyed the stay and everything was wonderful!
Great location and everything you have in your own home. From extra pillows to kitchen utensils, WiFi, TV, family games (including Corn hole!), kids plates/cups, hammocks and too much more to list. Everyone in our family enjoyed themselves. We would go back in an instant for our next family reunion. We had 17 people in our group - stayed for 4 nights and had the best time. The place was comfortable, well equipped and accommodating. The only negative issues were a smoke alarm battery that was weak/beeping on our last day, the driveway up to the cabin can be a bit tricky to find and somehow a small warm of gnats came to visit. Don't let that stop you! The Owners/Inkeepers are very hospitable and friendly - very caring about your experience - and it shows. A great value and awesome location. We highly recommend this for your next mountain retreat.
Perfect cabin for family and friends, amazing views, cozy cabin, and professional property manager
The location of this cabin is amazing. A full mountainside of Aspen Fall colors viewable right from the dining room and living room areas. It is very helpful how all cabinets in the kitchen are labeled. It made it easy to find things and put them away. Cozy blankets in living room areas were great for cooler evenings. TONS of games and puzzles to choose from. We had a family game night after a day of exploring the nearby mountain towns. My husband fished in the Dolores River ( on the other side of Hwy 145 at the bottom of the hill) and caught trout each day. The only downside was the number of flies. They were all along the windows in the dining room and living room and even though we would vacuum them up more would reappear the next day. For this nightly price, I don't want to deal with bugs.
We had a crew of our staff stay here to work a wedding at Dunton Hot Springs, and the home was perfect for our needs.
The property was very spacious, clean, and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We had a few hiccups with the water heater and water supply, but the owner was extremely prompt with fixing the issues. I would stay here again.
The property was excellent for our family trip and perfect for our English Pointer. While not the fanciest place we have used it was very functional and had perhaps the most complete kitchen equipment we have ever experienced. Great family spot!
Nice to see this was a family home, it felt like it and functioned like one. I come from a family of nine, this was a family trust getaway with parents there children and grand children. Just to say Kindra was Spot on with any response needed. This is a very special place and you know the moment you drive up the hill and are hit by the stunning views. You are very blessed to have and see such beauty. Thanks the Carlson Family.
