The house is pretty ok. It’s a beach house. 2nd year in a row no screens. Deck is dangerous. Shower needs bleach, or a reno! I cleaned all the filthy AC filters. Taped all the gaps between the AC’s and window frames. Taped the bathroom blinds too. Bring ice trays & It is reasonably priced though. And conveniently located.
Love this house and staff is very attentive.
I booked this house just days before the trip as a last minute getaway with my husband and daughter. I was nervous by the look of the outside but went with it. The good: the inside is much better than the look of the outside. It’s spacious and maintained. The property itself is great to sit outside with multiple double doors from den and kitchen to outdoor access. There is a bbq with propane which is a plus (although we did not use so I can’t comment on function or cleanliness of grill). There is an outdoor shower on side of house which was good to rinse sand off feet before entering house. there were 3 beach chairs and plenty of towels to shower and use at the beach. Location was central making it convenient to walk to town and beach. The not so good: the house needs new mattress in biggest room. It’s sunken in middle and has been through a lot. The twin beds in other rooms seemed fine, although I didn’t sleep in them. When we arrived at the house I got a text message that one toilet was not working well and a plumber would come the following day. That plumber never came. We were only 4 people so we managed with one bathroom but I was not compensated for the inconvenience. We arrived on a day that had rained. The path in front and all around the house was surrounded by I drained water. This was kind of gross but we managed despite the crazy amount of mosquitos due to the standing water. The shower can definitely use Clorox cleanup on walls to kill mold. Water pressure was good though. No furniture to unpack in so we lived out of suitcase. All in all, we had a fun couple of days and I’m happy we went. It’s a beach island so I knew what to expect. I would go back to this house for the weekday rate but any higher and they will have to add more amenities. For Example, new mattress, Bikes, cute chairs on porch etc.
Extremely let down by this home and my Vacasa experience in general I wanted to like this home as I've been coming to Fire Island for a number of years and have an affinity for all of the villages/towns. Being super familiar with Fire Island, I'm aware that maintaining homes on the island can be challenging and so while I would normally give some of what I'm about to share, a pass. But unfortunately there were issues too numerous for me to overlook. Ripped screens: - The majority of the windows do not have screens. Those that do have screens, are in disrepair allowing bugs to come through (problematic at night with windows open and lights on). Lightbulbs out: - Several bulbs inside the house are out and in addition, NONE of the outside light fixtures have bulbs making the property entirely dark at night. The exception is the floodlight pointed at grill. Smoke detector: - The smoke detector went off several times during 2 periods. A man came to pick up the detector and did not return. We slept in the house overnight without one. Someone returned the day after, leaving a detector on the kitchen table (without installing it). TV - Amazon fire TV stick is blocked from being able to be used. Slow responses - The hosts were slow to reply and at times, requests/questions had to be repeated. - Poor quality beds and bedding - No wine glasses - Very small coffee maker
Overall had a very nice time. More instruction needed for the time of garbage pickup...put ours out in the AM not knowing it comes at night and the deer got into it!! Also the wagon had a popped tire which made it extremely difficult to move in. Otherwise the home was very nice and we enjoyed our stay!!
This house did not live up to the photos. I planned a week log vacation with my two children ages 5 and 10, along with my 70 year old father and his girlfriend. We expected a comfortable, clean home from the looks of the pictures. The home was damp, dusty and moldy. The floors were so filthy we had to keep flip flops on the entire stay. The windows were so dirty you could barely see out of them. The air conditioning units did not look like they had been cleaned in years. There were no screens on any of the windows so we could not keep the windows open because of all of the bugs. The house was surrounded by a swamp/moat alongside the entire right side of the house that kept mosquitos and other insects constantly swarming the home. The mattresses were very old and dirty. My entire family left with a bad cough after staying in this home for a week. The kitchen was infested with ants. There was no cable tv in the living room.
Overall the stay was very nice. The kitchen and living room were nice for our family to gather in and relax. There were a few things that were bothersome but did not take away from our overall experience.A few of the doors must have gotten a little swollen due to the humidity and did not easily open. The beds were just ok but there were plenty of pillows and linens.I also would recommend a few pictures or some other decorations be added to the bare walls. The home did not have bicycles available and we rented some but that cost us $30 a day per bike and we rented 2 of them. We found the house location to be good, close to the shops, playgrounds, beach, and bay. We liked the app as it provided good information on the home, trash pickup, and other stuff we found helpful. We had gone to the Outer Banks in NC for vacation the last 2 summers and found staying close to home great. I plan on coming back to Fire Island next year for our family vacation.
