Captain Cook, Hawaii
South Island Launchpad allows you to enjoy all that South Hawaii Island has to offer, without the congestion, heat and ridiculous prices in Kona.
Instead of staying 2 hours from everything you want to do on the island, consider our 1400 Sqft new home as base for all your adventures.
Folks that choose to stay at our place are typically good people looking for rest from the craziness of daily mainland life. If you are individuals or a family looking for a peaceful location to re-charge from your daily South Hawaii Island vacation activities, without sacrificing the amenities of normal life (wifi, TV's in each bedroom, washer & dryer, dishwasher, etc) then you'll love staying at our place.
From the main road you'll turn off Hwy 11 at milemarker 80 on Aloha Blvd. You'll drive 5 miles UP the backside of Mauna Loa to our house. We're located on the Eastern edge of the subdivision, on a corner 1-acre lot. Nothing between you and your view of Southpoint except lava and sky.
You'll be located in the middle of the island, within range of South Point, Na’alehu, South Kona and Volcanos National Park in addition to unique Hawaiian beaches: pebble, black sand and green sand beach. Our favorite go-to ocean access is Whittington Beach Park, just a short drive through Na'alehu and down to the coast. On the drive there you'll just happen to pass some of our favorite coffee/food:
-Miranda's Coffee Farm & Coffee Shop
-El Encanto El Salvadorian/Mexican Food Truck
-Ka'lae Coffee Shop
-Punalu'u Bakery (Southern most bakery in the US)
We have a separate 400sqft studio unit located next to the main house, which may have guests staying in it as well. This unit was built in Sept 2023, it has full bath, full kitchen, bedroom/living room area and a small closet. Quartz counters and laminate flooring with another Queen bed and Full-size pullout couch. We can add the Ohana for an additional $70 per night, please reach out to check availability if interested.
Please note: This is a legal and registered vacation home rental, Hawaii GET & TA Tax of 17.9% will be collected as part of the booking.

Other details to note:
In the traditional Hawaiian style, there is no AC built into the house. The temps at 3600' elevation range from 55-75 degrees in the Winter and 60-80 degrees in the Summer... and there is normally a breeze. It is recommended to bring a sweatshirt for evening/morning time at the house.
SO, if it's HOT: open the window.
If it's COLD: grab an additional blanket.
(Note: there is a small heater unit built into the wall by the fridge, I've only ever used this once. If you do turn this on, please ONLY USE IT when you are in the main area, and turn it off when you leave. Energy is VERY expensive on the island.
All toilets are modern and have a bidet, we do ask that you NOT flush any toilet paper or personal products, please put all paper products in the small cans and empty those as needed to the large can outside.
Most of Hawaii Island is on catchment water supply, rainwater collected and run through a series of filters and a UV light system. So the water at the tap is triple filtered and UV screened, it is clean and fully drinkable. Enjoy!
