Kailua Kona, Hawaii
vrKCV - The Kona Hideaway at Kona Onenalo No. 11, Professionally Managed by Kona Coast Vacations
The Kona Hideaway is a private oceanfront Hawaiian villa, located in the exclusive gated community of Kona Onenalo, a 2+ acre lush oceanfront property with only 12 stand-alone villas adjacent to La'aloa (Very Sacred) Bay. Purchased in 2021 by California-based couple, attorney Robert Millar and Italian actor and designer Mario Guariso, overall renovations and interior design were completed in January 2022 to provide the couple and their guests a sophisticated part-time oceanfront retreat, and a welcome escape from their busy lives on the mainland.
Step through the gates and relax into the pristine tropical landscaping surrounding the 3- bedroom, 3 bath midcentury-modern Polynesian-inspired home. The extra-large lanai doors on both levels open the living spaces completely to the garden and ocean; the rolling waves and tropical birds lull you to sleep and are the first sounds you hear in the morning.
The gracious open floor plan, soaring two-story ceilings, and floor to ceiling sliders and windows allow for year-round indoor/outdoor tropical living. This 2000 square foot home has two lanais, a large gourmet kitchen, reserved parking for two vehicles, outdoor shower, full-size laundry, and is conveniently located just inside the gates at Kona Onenalo making it easy to transfer luggage and groceries into this Hawaiian hideaway.
The kitchen is equipped with great appliances, fixtures and water filtration, ideal for cooking and entertaining. Wifi, telephone, cable and smart TVs are provided for your convenience. The Kona Hideaway benefits from the ocean breeze cross-ventilation to keep it naturally cool in traditional Polynesian style; yet the villa is also equipped with ceiling fans and whisper-quiet air conditioning throughout, which can be separately controlled in each bedroom and living areas for maximum comfort.
The primary suite features stunning ocean, lawn and garden views, a private lanai, Cal-king bed, flatscreen TV, large closet, double bath vanity and two showers. The guest suite features a king bed (or convertible twins), desk and full bath en-suite. Third guest bedroom is located on the first floor, off the main living area, and features a queen bed, reading chair, desk and peekaboo views of the ocean.
One highlight of The Kona Hideaway is that both lanais face White Sands Beach (also known as Magic Sands Beach), a local favorite for body surfing, swimming, and beach volleyball where you can also enjoy breakfast, coffee, lunch and snacks beach side at the Beach Shack. Magic Beach Grill features local ingredients on seasonal brunch and dinner menus, all just a short 5-minute walk.
The Kona Hideaway overlooks a popular snorkel and shore diving spot known as “Mile Marker 4” at La'aloa Bay. Open the gate at the end of the lawn into the lava rocks seashore and you will find scores of reef fish, including schools of yellow tang, puffer fish, sea turtles and expansive lava tunnels with skylights that are a thrill to explore. The villa is also less than a mile from the popular Kahalu'u Beach Park, where tide pools make for easy snorkeling, and local surf instructors are available for lessons.
The village of Kailua-Kona is a short 3 miles North of The Kona Hideaway while Keauhou Shopping Center and Kona Country Club are less than 2 miles South of the property. The Kona Trolley picks up just across the street and bicycles are available at the White Sands Beach Bike Share Station.
Back from the beach enjoy a hot outdoor shower by the lanai, or if you prefer just stroll to the large pool and hot tub to watch for whales while in season, enjoy the famous Kona sunsets, and unwind into the true Aloha Spirit, where the sea and blue skies gleefully embrace.
Minimum stay varies seasonally. This is a non-smoking, no pets property.

Very happy overall. The only issue we had was that the A/C did not work well in one guest room on Xmas eve but they came to fix it the next day.
Close to great snorkeling and terrific views
Absolutely beautiful and had everything we needed!
This home does exactly what it says in the description. It was so close to the best snorkeling on the island and an amazing Restuarant/bar. A bus stopped righted outside if you don't want to drive and helps make mist places easily accessible. The entrance gate could be noisy but didn't spoil anything for us. We will definitely be looking at booking again very soon.
My immediate family plus in-laws spent a wonderful week here. Place had everything we needed to be comfortable. The views, sounds, and accommodations were all wonderful. The listing was very accurate and having the support of Kona Coast was icing on the cake. We will absolutely be back!
Great location and a wonderful place to spend a week. We loved the snorkeling right out the back door!
We enjoyed our morning coffee on the lanai looking at the beautiful view. You can go through the locked gate to the ocean/lava rocks all tho difficult entry to go snorkeling. Easy access to downtown. The house is close to the front entrance gate and so there is a good amount of street noise as well as noise from the gate opening and closing, but we all got use to it. A/C worked well. The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you would need. Wish the pool was open longer than 30 minutes after sunset. Amazing sunsets from the pool area. Overall, a wonderful house.
This was an amazing location and beautiful space indoors and out! The place was immaculate and well equipped. Our family had a fabulous time
Very well appointed unit (kitchen, linens, furniture etc.) Everything was in great shape. We were a little disappointed in the pool and hot tub hours (9:00am to 30 minutes after sunset). This unit is located directly behind the entry gate which is a loud metal gate. It would be nice if a soft closing mechanism could be installed. The dishes, appliances, pots and pans, etc. were over the top and in great condition. They only forgot one thing - a Keurig!
Location can not be beat! The sound of the waves crashing, the cool breeze blowing and all of the tropical lush landscape make this home the perfect place to escape! The home, so well appointed, was comfortable and cozy for our Christmas celebration and had everything we needed to prepare our meals in the well equipped and stocked kitchen. Had the space we needed to spread out and the peace and quiet we needed to truly rest. Steps from Magic’s beach (one of the most beautiful on this side of the island and popular for surfers too) the views were simply stunning. The pool/hot tub are perfect places to watch the sunset and if you’re lucky the whales pass by. Great location for being close to downtown Kona but not in the thick of the noise, and central to all other parts of the island that you would want to venture too. 15m from airport and an easy drive to shops, grocery and Costco!! Property managers were so very helpful and responsive when we were checking in and thankfully had no problems that needed their attention! If you can book this place, do it quick and without hesitation, as a local at another inn told me they are hard to get because of their size and location! Just perfection! We can’t wait to return!
We had a family reunion at this property. It was magnificent. Location is amazing, snorkeling right out front of the unit. Accommodations were perfect for our gathering, we would definitely stay here again. Mahalo, Beth
This is one of the nicest VRBO‘s we’ve ever stayed at. Beautiful ocean view, great to hear the sound of the ocean at night and everything you might need in an accommodation. The complex is pleasingly planned, and each unit is an individual townhouse. The furnishings are well thought out and elegant. The maintenance staff was courteous and on top of things as a dishwasher went out and they were quick to replace it without a fuss. The only down side- our two weeks only seemed like one - it was hard to leave!! Mahalo Richard
Everything was excellent. One thing. Either we didn't know how to work the dishwasher or it was broken so we did dishes by hand. No big deal
We had a great week at this place. Right on the ocean with great snorkeling out the back gate. Location was good and close to many amenities. Great sunsets too! Property itself was very nice and did come with sone food and cleaning items which was nice. Would definitely stay again There were 6 of us (three couples).
I highly recommend this property it was clean and very comfortable. The view is amazing and snorkeling right off the backyard, is off the charts! We will definitely stay there again.
The house was perfect for our family. Great location, great view, great everything. I hope to come back.
The house is beautiful and allowed the 4 of us to spread out and have our own space. The views of the sunset are beyond words - just step off the lanai and walk around another house and it’s there! We went through the gate to the ocean/lava rocks several times as well - highly recommend in the mornings to check out the beautiful tide pools. Although we had a rental car, we could have walked to Magic Sands beach and some of the food in that area. Easy access to the main tourist district. The house is close to the front of the neighborhood and so there is a good amount of street noise as well as noise from the gate opening and closing, but we all still slept fine. Floor fans provided for each room as well as ceiling fans. A/C units in all areas worked well and kept us cool when we needed them. The kitchen has everything you could need to cook with. Overall, very peaceful and beautiful house with an incredible view and location on the Big Island!
The property is as described, tastefully decorated, comfortable for a family. Chris who is maintaining the property was the only person who greeted us and interacted with us throughout our stay, personable, warm, welcoming and sharing good tips with us!
