About the Turtle Flambeau Flowage

Enjoy the scenic water & island views of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage which is a lake of approximately 14,326 acres in size, with 377 islands, and 229 miles of intricate mainland shoreline and 105 miles of island shoreline. You will have undisturbed, wooded shorelines and islands which offers the opportunity to boat, camp, fish and enjoy the outdoors in wild and rugged northern Wisconsin. Spread across 40,000 acres in Iron County, the Turtle Flambeau Scenic Waters Area offers endless fishing, hiking, biking, swimming, sunbathing, ski and snowshoe trails, and snowmobile and ATV/UTV trails. Be a part of Wisconsin’s most pristine and treasured waters and a wilderness that seems almost timeless.

The wild and wonderful Turtle Flambeau remains one of Wisconsin's outstanding fishing destinations. Preserved by the state, this area is a mecca to both land and water recreation. While walleye are the dominant species, trophy muskie over 50 inches have been taken. The Turtle Flambeau Flowage has often been compared to a “Canadian” wilderness experience without having to travel to Canada.

We are located in the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest which is a Wisconsin state forest of more than 225,000 acres. Ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross country skiing are only steps away from our home. You have miles of snowmobile trails right off the lake and also just as you exit our driveway.

Our home is located approximately 14.8 miles from the Town of Butternut, 17.1 miles from Town of Mercer, and 18.5 miles from Park Falls. All towns offer a variety of stores for your shopping convenience.

YOUR FOUR SEASON VACATIONLAND

If you want to drive without fighting traffic, you will enjoy sight-seeing through Iron County's miles of natural woodland wilderness. You will find new sights to see each day of your stay and in any season of the year. From the sweeping sand beaches of Saxon Harbor on Lake Superior and the nearby rushing waterfalls of the Penokee Iron Range near Hurley, Iron Belt, and Upson, to the green forests and unspoiled lake and river country of the Mercer and Springstead resort areas, Iron County's exciting natural scenery is yours to enjoy freely and leisurely. More than 750 miles of paved highways and improved forest roads provide safe travel through every part of what is now one of the largest wilderness woodlands remaining in the Midwest.

Riotous fall colors of the forest foliage are a scenic wonder of late September & early October which attract thousands for a few days of thrilling sight-seeing and picture-taking. Nowhere else in the world is the artistry of Jack Frost so breathtaking as in the miles of hardwood forest painted in brilliant scarlet & gold.

In winter, Iron County's evergreen forest wears its mantle of deep snow in classic Christmas card scenes ready to greet you along with the ice-fishing grounds on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Come enjoy our four season vacationland.

Peaceful, beautiful property, nice walking path, lots to explore. We saw deer, squirrels, woodpeckers, birds, beaver/muskrat, and some fish. Stories & s'mores around the firepit each night. Fished by boat and canoe. Also kayaked. Great kitchen area and outdoor grill. Had foosball champion competition, played games, watched movies, went to Mercer for fish fry, explored by boat and on foot. Great weather, no mosquitos till last night of stay. Lots of family bonding.

We have stayed at a few different homes and resorts in the Northwoods the last 27 years, this home, location and property were by far the best so far. Peaceful and amazing views. Home was beautiful and well maintained, exactly as listed. Wildlife visited every day and night. We will definitely stay again.

The week went too fast - beautiful property with a great view. Nature all around and the Owners have it set up perfect for your get-a-way or vacation. My only recommendation is to allow use of Washer/Dryer. I have rented multiple times a year in many areas of the USA and have always had access to W/D. Again - this was not a deal breaker, still rating this top notch.

Wonderful home, updated kitchen, great views. Great firepit, and perfect lake for kayaking/paddle board. Owners were great with communication and easy to deal with. It is listed as a 3BR on vrbo, but when you look at the description closer you see it is a 2BR and then has a pullout couch in a common area, that was a surprise when we were walking through the house the first time looking for the third BR. Will definitely sleep 6 if needed though. It is about a 30 minute drive to town from the cabin. Overall its a great place and we would recommend it to any small group looking for peace/quiet/tranquility. It's also probably even better in the winter if you snowmobile.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay - The house is awesome and has everything you need- It’s in a nice quiet cove and plenty of land to explore nature. Deer every morning if you’re up early. We brought our boat and enjoyed our time on the lake just driving around exploring or fishing. Would definitely rent again.

The house and the property are beautiful. It was the perfect place for our mini family vacation before our girls head back to school later this month. It was great to see the wildlife so close to the house and watch the turtles sunbathing in tge lake. We would love to come back again. The fishing was not the best, but we still had an amazing time!

The house is secluded, beautiful and the view from the great room was stunning. Several does and fawns roaming through the yard everyday was also nice to see. I had to cancel my trip after my boat motor quit and then scurry to get the new motor installed. I tried to cancel my reservation but apparently it didn't go through but Joe called me to tell me that so I could get a refund in time. He actually made a couple calls to VRBO to help with the refund. He didn't have to do that and when I got the motor back and rescheduled, he called to ask me if I needed anything and to call him if I had any questions. What a nice guy! The fishing was tough the week we were there, but the scenery was unbelievable, and we had a great time anyway. Book a trip at his home and you can't possibly be disappointed. Thanks Joe and Bonnie for sharing your home.

We absolutely loved our stay here. This house was perfectly decorated from the decals on the walls to glassware. A lot of detail went into making this home perfect. We were able to slow down for the weekend and enjoy the flowage and all the area offers. Perfect place to get away and relax. Would definitely recommend.
