This was the second stop on our big Scotland road trip and we fell in love with Portree and this property. It has such a homey, welcoming vibe, the rooms and kitchen are perfectly appointed and the owner was a dream to work with. I will come back to Skye but only if this home is available!
We had a wonderful stay in Portree! The home was clean and comfortable and in a perfect location to walk into town and to travel around the Isle. Hope to return some day!
Everything was as described in the advertisement! Very clean and great location! Only one suggestion, leave extra toilet paper! We had to go out and buy more.
First of all we were all so impressed that Dougie sent a youtube video to help us get to the house. If he hadn't it might have been hard to find. So thank you Dougie. The house was very comfortable, the beds and the furniture. The kitchen was very well appointed and the bathrooms were perfect for us. The location was excellent. The parking made it very easy to get back out on the road which was very important to these Americans not used to Scot roads. Dougie even called before we arrived to make sure we understood the directions and to ask if we had any more questions. Thanks again. To sum it up, this was definitely a 5 and if we ever come again or if we know someone who wants to travel to your beautiful country, this property will be highly recommended.
Excellent to stay within walking distance of the centre of Portree
A great location to traverse the Isle of Skye. All details for the rental are clearly covered in an excellent guide book to the property and region by the owner. Bedrooms are a wee bit small and the bathrooms, while modern, require a little attention but nothing that would deter requesting it to be rented again. Go and enjoy the home and region. Fantastic time for us 4 adults!
All afternoon we had been trying to reach Douglas Galloways‘ Portree VRBO to obtain some sort of entry information for our prepaid lodging. The link in the instruction e-mail was not activated properly which triggered a long struggle on the phone with VRBO to get a contact number. The inaccurate phone number on the website was answered by a man in a pub who said though he used to work for Douglas Galloway he no longer did and could not help us. After a number of attempts to reach VRBO, we were given the phone number of Douglas Galloway himself. We had driven nine hours through the rain and we arrived on the isle of Skye after dark and we’re unable to see any signs or building numbers so we called the owner for directions. His manner was quite hostile, “It’s the Isle of Skye - there are no house numbers. No, there is no sign. Thousands of people have stayed at the holiday house and yous be the first to get lost! I don’t think I can help you. I’m in Spain and can’t come there and hold yer hand!” His directions changed on each retelling and he repeated that same rude insult three times while the six of us listened, stunned, over speaker phone. After retracing our steps several times and realizing the wooden house was what he described as a hut, we managed to drive close enough to see a sign we’d noticed in one of the pictures. Once inside, the place had an air of neglect. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough toilet paper, only a few paper towels, some lights out and supply closets locked. One upstairs bathroom had a health threatening smell of mold. It’s a rather cramped house and somewhat pricey for place with only slivers of sea view. . Portree is a lovely little town and we had very nice interactions with the local folk. Several of whom said that our landlord was the former Sheriff of the town, but had since bought up quite a few properties in the area and is known to overcharge for them as well.
Very good, we thought location was great easy access to getting around?
We really enjoyed our cottage experience with each couple appreciating the 3 Bedroom/3 Bath lodging. The kitchen was perfect as we prepared breakfast each morning . the Co Op grocery was a brief 5 min walk making it so easy to pick up food and adult beverages. We even picked up take away for dinner since the restaurant lines were long. The booking was easy and Doug was outstanding with providing the vital information & responding to questions. I would highly recommend the place for groups—-just make sure you drive slow as you make the last turn out of town so you don’t miss this place on the left. The parking spot in front was wonderful- never got back into car at the end of the day !
Easy to find. Lots of room, everything we needed was there, plus a few extras! Quiet, clean and comfortable - really enjoyed our stay. Excellent location to do the Trottenish Loop or explore the rest of Skye. Short walk from downtown restaurants.
We had a wonderful time in Protree and the unit itself is wonderful, great location with easy access private parking. The only complication we had is that the hot water heater seemed to be on a timer (which we couldn't locate) and set to not turn on until later in the morning. We tend to be early risers and had no hot water until sometime around 9:00 AM in the morning. I am sure this is something that can be easily addressed, just wanted to let the property mangers to know - and guests to confim that it's been addressed. All in all a great experience and I would definitely stay there again!
