The neighborhood
Kalpana’s place is located in Berkeley, California, United States.
The location is in the neighborhood of the landmark Claremont Hotel in Claremont Hills; and is about a 10 minute drive to UC Berkeley.
Getting around
The location is walking distance from AC transit bus services. The Rockridge BART* station is less than 1 mile away. One can walk to Claremont Avenue or College Avenue in a pleasant 5 or 7 minute walk.
*Bay Area Rapid Transit
Wonderful neighborhood; total privacy; everything was clean, well cared for, and comfy. Very minor suggestions: I couldn't find a dish towel; also there was no recycling bin. I replaced a burned out light bulb, but couldn't find one that exactly matched the other bulb in the light.
Quaint and quiet area in the Berkeley Hills.
Very nice and safe area.
Quaint and cozy just as described. The patio by koi pond is everyone's fav!
This property was perfect for my weeklong stay. I felt very safe there and really enjoyed the beautiful covered patio. The bedroom was plenty large and comfortable. Before I left, the hosts added a perfect table for eating, games, writing etc. It really was a great addition. The host was extremely helpful and friendly. The location of this property is in a lovely area of Berkeley and I will hope to stay there again when I return.
We stayed at the property for 5 nights. It was cozy and comfortable and a pleasure to come back to after a day's exploration in the bay area.
Access for older or disabled people is very difficult. Uneven stairs and patio blocks make it a hazard. Musty smell activated my wife's allergies. VRBO's communication system not functioning. Could not respond to messages, nor could we initiate a message. Needed to call VRBO contact number to get garbage bags and kleenex. Not a make or break, but a nuisance when on vacation - time consuming. Overall, nice place to stay, however I can't get used to a porta potty 2 steps from the entrance.
I’ll start with the positives: The location, the neighborhood, and the ease of parking made this property wonderful. The pictures are exact, and the owner is responsive. The negatives: The bed and pillows are so uncomfortable. Actually, they are just terrible, hard as a rock. I slept better on the plane. A nice option for longer stays, you can wash your clothes in a very moldy washing machine. The washing machine is in desperate need of sanitizing. It was nice to have a mini fridge, but the setting froze my food. The magic number is 7 to keep your food cold not frozen. Finally, the coffee maker was really dirty. I had to clean it very well before using it. As this is a room in an occupied house, we did hear noise at 9:30 at night which is completely reasonable but we were on east coast time. It was only on one night. All in all, you get what you pay for. I knew the place was small, and this was intended as a place to sleep. However, the quality of the bed and pillows caused extremely poor sleep. I will be booking a different property next year.
Great neighborhood and lovely place to stay. Just wish it had a tv. Would recommend.
Thank you for the wonderful stay!
Pretty close to downtown Berkeley and a Bart station. Up a pretty steep hill, but that’s to be expected in the Bay Area. Had everything we needed.
Great stay! Neighborhood was very quiet. The rental space was very clean. Owner was very responsive. I would definitely recommend this location.
Good instructions from owner and check-ins during stay. Great place for two in an older well kept home. Lots of character and charm. Comfortable bed. Heaters worked well. Gorgeous original wood floors. Three rooms: entry/kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom. No living/lounge/tv area. Outdoor patio/koi pond/garden is lovely if it's warm enough to be outside. Safe upscale neighborhood with street parking.
Very cool old building with friendly owners. This was the perfect spot in-between our local family, the show we attended, and amazing food. I was cautious at first due to the narrow roads but it was always easy to park right in front of the entrance. Ordering food in, was always seamless as well. I especially enjoyed walking through the neighborhood, there are so many cool old houses, secret stairways, and winding hedged paths. Once again, it's a pretty old building so be prepared for older mechanisms, it's very well maintained considering. By the end of our stay it just added to the charm of old Berkeley, couldn't have asked for a better place. I miss those Koi already!
We had an easy seamless comfortable and wonderful stay! Thank you for hosting my friend and I! We would love to come back!
Loved the property, just had some issues with the code and lock on the door getting in. Found it very difficult to use . Otherwise stay was great and I loved the location.
All you need classic and class act
Our host was attentive and kind and we felt well cared for. The pictures don’t do justice to this comfy stay. We loved the neighborhood and were able to walk to a ton of local spots from the house. A lovely place for a couple to rest during their stay in the bay.
Everything was just as described/pictured. This home has so much charm and was so peaceful. We slept easily in the quiet and had coffee on the patio. The shower was a little small (we’re tall folks) and I would have appreciated info about the outdoor staircase (we arrived in the dark). But it was so nice and made for a wonderful oasis on our trip.
A very nice place in a lovely neighborhood. It was very small for three people, but if you’re only planning to sleep there, it is great!
