You can step off the porch to go for a walk in the woods or down the gas well road. There are plenty of deer, turkeys and the occasional coyote can be heard in the evening. There is Fishing, Biking and Hiking all within a short distance from the cabin.
On the expansive front porch you can enjoy the wind chimes as you sit and overlook the valley with a glass of wine. There is comfortable couch and chairs to relax on as well as a rocking chair and porch swing. The spacious great room with its high ceilings and open floor plan is wonderful for a large group or a few couples. There is are two full size couches with a TV anda new smart tv, we have starlink and it's been working well but it's possible in inclement weather you may need to resort to the dvd player. We also have a wonderful stand up Baldwin Piano, generally kept in tune! The full kitchen has plenty of workspace for anyone who would like to cook a gourmet meal. It is fully stocked with plenty of plates, serving items, glass and a fantastic dishwasher. There is also general kitchen items available, like salt, pepper, oil flour. We have two bedrooms on the first floor. The “Winter” room which has a Queen Bed facing east towards the sunrise has a large closet and dresser as well as a beautiful antique headboard. The “Summer Room” has a King Bed and overlooks the front porch and view of the valley it also has a large closet and dresser. The full bath with a tile tub and shower also includes a double sink vanity. The laundry room has a washer dryer and utility sink. The second floor has a loft with a recliner and is a great place to curl up with a book, if extra beds are needed this is the perfect spot for an air mattress. We have just added a new office work station with a monitor. We are using starlink so the streaming serivce in this remote area is working fairly well but may struggle to run many devices with inclement weather. There are two bedrooms on the second floor. The “Fall” Master Bedroom with its poster king bed and room darkening curtains is welcoming and wonderful for those who need a very quiet place to rest. The second bedroom is our “Spring Room” and has bunk beds and a trundle bed so 3 can sleep comfortably in this room. With the brightly decorated curtains it’s a perfect room for the kids.
As you come out of the house the back porch wraps around and we have steps which lead down to our outdoor fire pit which is the perfect place to relax with friends and family and enjoy the sunset or see the amazing stars. Many a nights have been spent with good friends and stories around the campfire and there is always a pleasant breeze on the ridge. Check out the map of our trails on the property and get out for a walk, we have about 1.5 miles of our own trails.
In this remote area of West Virginia you are surrounded by amazing scenery and rivers. The Tygart River is just a short drive from the cabin and is known for its beautiful whitewater and swimming. There is Moats Falls which is a 16’ waterfall cascading over the rocks. We can arrange with advance notice private kayaking instruction or rafting trips for any type of group, the gentle float or the class V excitement there is something for everyone. There is a flat water section of river from Philippi to the town of Arden. From Arden to the Teter Creek bridge it becomes Class IV whitewater and you can paddle over the 16’ waterfall if the water level is right! There is also creekin’ available on Teter & Laurel Creek just moments from the house.
The Tygart Lake State Park is another nearby attraction where boats and all types of lake recreation activities are available. You can rent a pontoon boat for the day and enjoy this scenic lake. Another local favorite is Audra State Park where the Middle Fork of the Tygart river flows though tight channels and larger boulders, amazing fishing, hiking and swimming await you at this park.
The famous Blackwater falls is an attraction about an hour from the house. This cascading waterfall drops 65 feet! This area is also home to some of the most famous and amazing Mountain Biking in the state of West Virginia. Stop in the local bike shop, Blackwater Bikes to find out about the trails but you can spend hours riding and even visit an area called “A Ride to the Moon” where you can challenge yourself on some of the most technical riding in the east on the Moon Rocks. This is not for novice riders! However, there are also some great easy trails as well; check out the bike path in Parsons or the Allegheny Trail which goes for miles a nice paved trail for road riders.
The cabin is about 45 minutes from Clarksburg, 2 hours from Charleston and about 1 1/2 hours from Morgantown. If you are flying in either of these airports would work for you. Our driveway is a bit steep and rocky and an SUV is not necessary but recommended. Low clearance cars are not ideal for this driveway.

We had a great get away weekend playing cards, ping pong and watching movies. Cabin was very comfortable and cozy.
We met family here to celebrate Thanksgiving: 5 adults, 1 teenager, 1 10-yr old, and a French Bulldog all had cozy, spacious places to sleep and more than adequate bathrooms. The available seating in the great room was perhaps a bit crowded, but we didn't need to all be there often anyway. Loved the ping pong table, firepit, wifi and keyless entry, and well equipped kitchen. The driveway was daunting and STEEP, but manageable with SUVs. Cellular service was terrible, but that was really only a problem when out in the local area trying to use GPS maps. Otherwise, we loved being disconnected for a few days.
Wonderful secluded cabin in the woods. Perfect spot for our group.
Quiet, spacious and clean. Well equipped and no immediate neighbors. We had a lovely, restful few days in the hills
Great place to stay with family for a secluded home away from home in the woods! House was very clean and fully stocked with everything you need! The bedrooms were spacious and pretty comfy. The adults enjoyed the beautiful fire pit area and the large modern kitchen/dining area! The large porches were nice also. The kids enjoyed the downstairs game room, the woods, making s’more’s, and at times the Wi-Fi. Talk about “glamping”. The only downside was the distance from town (15 mins) and the distance from tygart lake (40 mins). The driveway is extremely steep and could be treacherous in bad weather and snow. All in all, a very nice place to stay. Thank you.
We loved our stay here; quiet and beautiful. So much porch space we had plenty of places to eat or just hang out.
Our stay was wonderful. We couldn’t ask for a more perfect rental. The cabin had everything we needed. Sara was so helpful with booking and checking in to see if we needed anything during our stay. Thank you, Sara, for helping our family to create happy memories of our time spent in Moatsville, WV.
There are not many places to stay by the Arden River. This place sure surprised us! It literally had everything! The owners thought of it all! It was comfortable, so very clean and well maintained. My family enjoyed our secluded trip in this beautiful cabin! Would highly recommend to anyone! Our family will for sure be back for many more stays!
It's a very nice cabin. Very private. We really enjoyed our stay.
We had an amazing time here! We will be back.
What a delightful place to stay, it’s definitely a retreat! Surrounded by trees, you cannot see the road below or hear any neighbors, you hear the sweet sounds of chirping birds! The cabin is very well cared for & met every need we had. Kitchen is lovely & well stocked. The kids & adults too enjoyed the ping pong table. We thoroughly enjoyed the large porches, hammock, porch swing & plenty of chairs for everyone. We loved the fire pit, more than ample wood supply. The host was very quick to answer all questions we had…excellent communication! We will definitely be coming back!
This property was exactly what we needed to gather and celebrate some milestones as a family! We were 9 total and there was plenty of space indoors and out! The kitchen is amazingly well equipped and Sara was a helpful, communicative and gracious host.
Very relaxing and beautiful surroundings! Everything was stocked so we could spend more time with family during the holiday than running into town. Kitchen fully stocked. We cooked a big Ham dinner and didn't need anything additional to prepare it.
Beautiful place perfect distance from town
Great place, was our third time here. Sara is a great host and responds to messages quickly. Highly recommended!
Visiting Alderson Broaddus University for long weekend. Hiking, fishing, kayaking at Teter Creek Lake and grilling dinner as well as s’mores on the fire pit made for a memorable time.
It was exactly what we were looking for. The cabin was beautiful and the property was far enough away from everything and everyone that we got exactly what we were envisioning. Loved the fire pit.
A fabulous getaway. We love the privacy, porches, beautiful trees and rivers nearby. Our family does lots of day hikes with dogs and this location is just a short drive to the Monongahela National Forest with lots of trails.. This house is perfectly appointed and we will be back!
We were 3 couples just doing a getaway. We loved it. They thought of everything!! The kitchen was fully equipped. Everything was very clean. It is very isolated but worked well for us. Great fire pit
Everything was great except the key access.
This property is in a great location and had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed the fire pit and did lots of exploring on and around the property. Sara was an amazing host, she went above and beyond to help us with an issue unrelated to the property. Definitely recommend
Property was just as described. Very clean, comfortable, well stocked with condiments and necessities. Surroundings were beautiful and peaceful!
Great place Great time
We loved Frost Run so much last summer that we had to come back for a longer stay this year!! It was absolutely wonderful again, and the kids are already talking about next time! The cabin and property are absolutely perfect.
