Waterbury, Vermont
If you want privacy and elbow room you just found it. Nestled at the end of a small private dirt road off of Perry Hill, this house is perched up on a slab of rock that backs up to hundreds of acres of mountain woodlands. The house is as cozy as the location is great; an open-concept kitchen and living space makes the 1800 sq ft house feel much larger than it is, and you'll live on the deck in good weather (trust us...it's like magic). The location puts you in the heart of some of the best hiking and biking trails around, and you're still just 10 minutes from all of the great offerings in Waterbury. But really, you don't have to go anywhere...play in the yard, or hike from home, it's all out your back door.
After the past year and a half of dealing with the pandemic and seeing the same scenery day after day, we were ready for a change and some rejuvenation. We found the perfect place. We spent two and a half amazing weeks at Alpine Meadow perched on the side of a rocky hill with a great view of a mountain. We appreciated the character and history of the home and especially enjoyed sitting on the porch deck watching the sun rise over the trees in the morning and shadows set in the late afternoon. Truly the most peaceful we have felt in a long while. The weather varied throughout our time, so we were able to enjoy sitting in the sun, warming ourselves by the firepit, and listening to rain in the den. Even sitting inside, we enjoyed the view looking out of the windows surrounding the den. Very open feeling downstairs. As far as utilizing the house, we had everything we needed to cook, wash clothes, etc.. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, glassware, plates, you name it! The beds are super comfortable. We (husband, myself and 14 year old) slept in the two bedrooms upstairs. There is a half bath up there that works great for nighttime. The full bathroom with shower is downstairs and there is a bedroom downstairs with bunk beds. The internet speed was awesome! We were able to do Zoom calls, watch Netflix, etc... and did not experience any issues. The location was very convenient to grocery stores, restaurants, downtown Waterbury and Stowe. Our host Ben provided detailed instructions on how things worked in the house and offered suggestions for places to eat, hike, swim, listen to music, etc… He was very responsive to our questions and communications. We really did not want to leave and we will definitely come back.
My wife and I rented this house for a month in December 2020. It was a perfect property and house for us working remote and enjoying time to winter hike, ski and relax. It's location is beautifully tucked in the woods down a long drive way with an orchard, outside fire pit and views looking over the mountains. The house was very cozy with a pellet stove and wrap around porch. The kitchen was well stocked and the house felt very warm and inviting. The bedrooms even had great workspaces for my wife and I to work remotely for a few weeks. The surrounding area is stunning with tons to do, only 25 mins to Stowe Mountain, close to hiking trails as well as amenities like the supermarket, restaurants and breweries. You can even shoot into Burlington in under 30 mins if needed. My wife and I love this area of Vermont and plan on returning to this rental as soon as its available again. The owners were super easy to work with, responsive and lovely people in general - true Vermont friendliness.
