Lubec, Maine
Come and stay for a while at our relaxing Island view home on Water Street, by the Roosevelt bridge, in the charming little town of Lubec. Our cancellation policy is very relaxed and reasonable because we understand how quickly plans can change these days. The Seafarer's Retreat has all of the comforts of home and has great Island and water views from most of the windows. We work hard to give every guest the best value for their hard-earned money! The Seafarers Retreat accommodates 8 adults comfortably. Children of all ages and dogs of all sizes are welcome here! There is plenty of room for your family with 4 bedrooms, and 2 and a half bathrooms. There is a bathroom on each floor, so no walking up or down stairs in the middle of the night. The bathrooms do not have a tub only walk in showers, but there is a bathtub for babies in the 3rd story closet. This home is family and pet friendly! You will find a highchair, pack and play, kid sized plates, step stools for tooth brushing, child's toilet seat, a baby gate for the stairs. There is an on-demand generator to weather any storms if you stay during spring or fall months. You can walk or ride our bikes and explore Lubec and Campobello. We highly recommend whale watching tours with Downeast Charters (operating from June to mid-September) and taking the ferry to Eastport (runs Thursday- Sunday) where you will find dining and unique gift shops. Lubec has 4 restaurants, a couple of cool gift shops, a fishing pier, the Fisherman's memorial, an old-style hardware store, and an IGA for groceries and alcohol. The restaurants in this area close earlier than in larger towns, most close between 7 and 8pm, so plan on an early dinner. You will be in town, but it is a quiet and peaceful location and the whole town is very laid back. Lubec is a nature lovers paradise, but there is no night life, it is just a small, historic fishing town. If you want an escape from busy city life this is the place for you. Walk or drive across the bridge to Campobello Island and explore the numerous hiking trails there and have tea and cookies at the Roosevelt summer cottage. Campobello is open to you if you have a passport and now you no longer need proof of vaccination. If you like hiking there are lots of trails in the area, we highly recommend the Quoddy head lighthouse's coast guard trails. From the deck you will enjoy a great view of the Roosevelt bridge, the Narrows, and the huge, 23 foot, rise and fall of the tides. It is a 10-minute walk to Mowry beach which is a sandy public beach where you can find sea glass. You follow a rose lined (roses are blooming in June) path to a sandy beach with a view of Grand Manan Island in the distance. There as a small viewing room on the 4th floor (the Crow's Nest) with windows all around so you can see in all directions. The Retreat has a smart TV with basic cable and 200Mbps high speed internet for streaming and free WIFI. You will find a full kitchen ready for you to prepare a meal. There is a Keurig coffee maker and a variety of k-cups as well as a regular coffee maker. You are our guests, so we make sure you have spices, oil, coffee, creamer, sugar, lots of utensils, and a huge lobster pot! All dogs welcome! No weight limit on your best friend! There are extra personal care items for you such as prepackaged toothbrushes, razors, lotion, etc. just take what you need. Pack some beach combing clothes, hop in your car, and come and relax and recharge at the Seafarers Retreat! No smoking, please.
