Ketchum, Idaho
If peace and tranquility is what you are looking for, we've got it. Rest and rejuvenation, we've got it. Outdoor adventure, can't get any better. Needing a little culture, just drive the 40 minute scenic byway to Ketchum/Sun Valley and you'll find yourself in a small town with lots of flare; art galleries, symphonies, concerts, nice restaurants and more.
We call our home Eagle's Nest. It is a beautiful log house sitting atop a hill in the Sawtooth Valley. The majestic living room windows face the Sawtooth Mountains. You will never get tired of that view, but walk around the 360° deck and you will see there is a magnificent view in every direction.
We are located within the first-ever Gold Tier Dark Sky Preserve in the U.S., making the night sky views stunning. You won't believe how many stars are up there. The stars are dazzling given that there are no city lights within 100 miles.
There a 2 large bedrooms upstairs, one with a king sized bed, the other with a queen and a twin. These two bedrooms have views of the Sawtooth mountains as well. Downstairs there is a second master bedroom with a queen sized bed and a twin, a large playroom/media area and a 4th bedroom with 2 twin beds. There is a trundle bed in the play room.
Alturus lake is 7 miles away, Redfish lake is a 24 mile drive as is the quaint western town of Stanley. Smiley Creek store and restaurant is .6 miles down the hill. You could easily walk or bike to have a meal (open seasonally).
Fabulous trails for the mountain biker and/or hiker abound in the Sawtooth area. Easy walks all the way up to rigorous and rugged hiking, biking or even climbing are near by. Some of these trails are available right out the front door. For a day you'd rather sit a bit, try a river trip down the famous "river of no return", the Salmon river; or float the lazy river near Alturus lake.
We have a fire pit, well stocked kitchen, beach towels, coolers, and beach chairs for your use. We live locally, and will do everything we can to meet your needs.
Redfish lake lodge and Sawtooth Hotel in Stanley offer fine dinning. Be sure to visit the Stanley bakery for breakfast or lunch. They have legendary baked goods including a few gluten free selections.
For winter travelers, groomed x-country ski trails are 5 miles down-valley, there is great backcountry skiing and if you wish, you can snowmobile, ski or snowshoe right out the front door. Snowmobile rentals are available at Smiley Creek Lodge.
Smiley Creek airport has a dirt runway for small planes is .6 miles away. You could walk to Eagle's Nest from there.
Perfectly situated close to Ketchum, but in the heart of the great outdoors.
Please note: RV's, pull behind campers and tent trailers are not allowed on the property.
Awesome place and the views are amazing!
This views in this cabin are truly spectacular! There is not a window without the perfect view of the mountains, sunrise, sunset and wildlife! The mornings and evenings spent on the deck with family were unforgettable! We hiked right out the back door, visited Alturas lake right near by and visited Stanley (also only about a 20 minute drive) for dinner and of course the cafe for breakfast! Hike to Yellow Belly lake, visit the Sunbeam Hotsprings and hit up Redfish for boating. You will not be disappointed if you book this property. Smiley Creek is quaint but nice to have at the bottom of the hill :) We would highly recommend this property!
We loved our returned stay at the Eagle's Nest. It has to have one of the best locations in all of the Stanley Basin. Fantastic vies of the Sawtooth Mountain Range, as well as the White Cloud Mountain. The cabin is well furnished, very comfortable, with lots of room inside and out. Would definitely stay here again.
It was a perfect way to spend our New Years tucked away in Smiley Creek. We were able to ski and snowmobile right from the home and the logs felt so similar to our cabin and therefore was like home. Thank you so much!
We were in Idaho for a memorial service and combined it with a chance to hang out with family we haven't seen in a while - we had 11 people (7 kids ages 6-16 and 4 adults) staying and we appreciated the downstairs kid space and upstairs adult conversation. The views were beautiful and we appreciated the porch for dinners and hanging out. We felt like the house was well-located between ketchum and stanley and we did activities in both areas. Maybe two minor annoyances: there were 2 showers for 11 people and there were plenty of pots but a shortage of serving spoons + no BIG pots or BIG casserole dishes (we made chili one night in 3 pots and stuffed peppers across 2 dishes the next!) for feeding the crowd but this didn't detract from the fun we had or our ability to enjoy the property. Milkshakes at the smiley creek lodge were tasty and hiking in the area was awesome. The photos of the place make it look less fabulous than it actually is overall - we highly recommend this to the next folks.
The home was located in a beautiful setting with fantastic views. House was cozy and set up perfect for our family. The fact it allowed our two dogs was great! The home was very well stocked. We had a great time! Thank you!
Had a great time in this beautiful place in the mountains, perfect for the family, close to lakes and hiking, very nice hosts
My wife & I spent 3 weeks at this wonderful cabin in the Sawtooth mountains. Very comfortable with GREAT views of the mountains all around. Wrap around deck with nice furniture made it easy to find the right combination of sun, shade, breeze, etc. to enjoy the great outdoors. Very quiet & private yet close to the highway and unlimited hiking options. Prepared most of our meals in the well stocked kitchen, but also enjoyed a couple of good dinners from Smiley Creek Lodge just down the hill. The owners (Roger & Maria) were easy to communicate with & very helpful. Overall, this was the perfect basecamp for our hiking adventures in the Sawtooths.
We absolutely loved our stay at the Eagles Nest with a perfect location for exploring all the Sawtooth National Recreation Area has to offer. Located at the upper part of Stanley Basin, we had easy access to the lakes, trails, and scenic drives of the region. The house is well furnished and provides everything you need to enjoy your vacation. This includes a full equipped kitchen, indoor and outdoor seating, small ice chest to take to nearby lake beaches, etc. The great room with kitchen, dining, and living room was perfect for socializing and hanging out enjoying the breath-taking views out the main windows towards the mountains. The two bedroom on the main floor are spacious with en suites and space to unpack. The lower floor is huge with two more bedrooms, bathroom, large family room and two washers and dryers. At night it is almost pitch black, providing stargazers with easy viewing of constellations and the Milky Way! A few thungs we found a bit frustrating were: the bathroom and shower faucets knobs all seemed to turn different ways so have to be careful to not scald yourself when adjusting the water temperature The main bedroom en suite has a large soaker tub, but no shower. The bath/shower downstairs drain stopper wouldn't stay open, so you ended up in a pool of water when showering, and then had to spend a few minutes holding the drain valve open to drain out the water. These were all minor inconveniences, and if you embrace the fact your are staying at a cabin pretty easy to adjust too. We would highly recommend the vacation rental to others, and would happily stay here again!
A group of six (3 couples) road tripped to Idaho from Oregon for a summer getaway to the Sawtooth Mountains. The house was fabulous with amazing views everywhere you looked. It was perfectly laid out for 3 coupes with privacy and bathrooms for each. The kitchen was a gathering point and the large dining table easily accommodated our group for every gourmet dinner. The deck and outdoor furniture were so comfortable we spent a lot of time outside, playing cards, looking at the incredible stars and Milky Way. It was amazing. Would highly recommend!
