Beautiful house and property.
We enjoyed our stay at the Santee House as always. We love the home, the water and the wildlife, and the memories. Skip Sauer Clemson, SC
Great old house and the nature walk to the dock was always exciting! We will definitely be going back!
We enjoyed our stay at the swamp house with our family and close friends but would like to call out some opportunities for improvement. The property was advertised as having three bathrooms and it only had two. This was quite a mistake and it has since been fixed on the VRBO site. There were 8 of us and we loved the boardwalk out to the river. Also the kitchen was great a d well stocked with spices and condiments. It was also convenient to have a washer and dryer close by. The house was not super clean and by that I mean a LOT of dust and dust bunnies all around. We all wore flip flops in the house otherwise our feet would quickly get dirty. Since this was just a weekend get away it was not that big a deal but something to think about. I would also bring bottled water as the property has well water. It was totally fine and safe to drink but definitely had a minerally taste. If you are a relaxed family and enjoy being together and near beaches and Charleston and don’t mind some of these issues then this was a great place and of course much more affordable than renting on the beach!
This place was perfect for us. We all love to be outside away from hustle and bustle. Great place to have a boat and check out the Santee river. The house is fun and really like the kitchen with gas stove and iron pans. Just like home. We never found a toaster. That would be a nice addition. The walk out to the river on the board walk is very nice. Love seeing all the plants, birds and wildlife. Some of the boards need to be replaced. Could be a problem for small kids and people with not good balance. We really felt like we were walking through some National park.
We found this place several years ago and it has become a once a year event. Two or three old farts and the sons and friends of sons. The young/old mix is great. We love to fish and be away from civilization, so the 1/4 mile sloping, slick boardwalk to the river fits in perfectly. We’ll be back.
