Clean, close to beach, quiet
Salty Dawg is a short walk to the beach, the Red Bar, and Chiringo, on a quiet side street. The house was clean, everything was in working order, and there were plenty of towels for our group. We absolutely loved Salty Dawg, and will be reserving it for next year.
Aging plumbing.poor response time to second problem.not resolved.
We loved the house in terms of style, space, location and amenities. The only downside and only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating is because the master bathroom was not working as soon as we checked in. The toilet would not flush and water pressure in the same bathroom was very weak (faucet was just a trickle). We called their service number and they said someone would come the next day. Someone did but they were not able to fix the problem , they said they had to call a plumber. They promised to have someone there by the 3rd day but no one came and it didn't get fixed until the 4th day. There was no sense of urgency to make it right. We paid for 2-bathroom accommodations but really only had one bathroom working for 6 people for half of our stay. Very frustrating and stressful!
Had a great time in the house. Everything was clean. Nothing fancy and you didn’t have to worry about messing anything up. Just the basics and it was like staying in a cabin with all the wood paneling . I would recommend investing in a new toilet in the master bedroom . Had to have a plumber come out and we still had some issues . The toilet looked like it was original to the house .
This is a wonderful place to get to know Grayton Beach. My wife and I are architects, and this house is a great example of mid-70s modern residential design. Front door has a porthole window which is a great detail. The living room is spacious and has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams. It fits Grayton and is very comfortable. Only concern several of the small appliances were pretty worn. The coffee pot works great though! Oh and by the way it is huge! Lots of space. We greatly enjoyed our stay.
The layout of this old school beach house was perfect for us. We loved everything about it
Convenient and comfortable.
Great place to stay!
PROS: The Salty Dawg is in a terrific location in Grayton Beach - reasonable walking distance to the beach, shopping, and dining, and is a good size for families with children, having a split master floorplan with 3 BRs/2 Baths, 2 living areas, a dining table for 8, plus 4 barstools around a kitchen peninsula. There are also 2 sleeper sofas - one in the master BR, and one in the main living area. The kitchen provides plenty of dishes/glassware/silverware/cookware. There is a counter top microwave, toaster, and small toaster oven in addition to the stove/oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Little hotel-sized toiletry samples were in the bathrooms. The number of towels in each bathroom seemed to be adequate, although a few more hand towels would be appreciated. The master BR king-sized bed was very comfortable. There is a washer and dryer. The yard is spacious and shaded. There is a carport for two cars, and there's room for additional cars. There is a spacious wrap around deck with a few chairs on it. The Wi-Fi worked well. CONS: We were only provided 2 dishwashers tabs, 2 garbage bags (no way to secure the top, except to tie it in a knot), a very tiny sample-sized bottle of Dawn dishwasher liquid, a kitchen sponge, and 1 roll of toilet paper in each bathroom for a week's stay for our family of 7. Fair warning: no other supplies were provided - bring your own. The freezer was iced up (perhaps a new gasket is needed?), and the ice maker was dicey. The dryer in the laundry room blocked access to the door to the back yard (the only exterior door, other than the front door). The gas grill did not work. Bring your own charcoal in order to use the charcoal grill also provided. The carpet in both the main living area and master bedroom need a deep cleaning; there was a musty odor in those rooms, and the carpet had many stains. The shower in the master bathroom leaked; we couldn't get it to turn completely off. The sink in the hall bathroom drained very slowly. The medium-sized television in the main living area is an old-fashioned one, and the flat screen in the second living area is very small. The non-carpeted floors had been vacuumed, but they're in a need of a scrubbing; in fact, the whole house could use a deep cleaning, not just the end-of-stay one done by the maids. This house has the potential to be an absolutely WONDERFUL, 5-star house, if the concerns above were to be addressed.
