For over 70 years our family has owned Mom and Pop's cottage. Reputed to be the first home on Honest Point. the cottage is the epitome of relaxed uncomplicated living. The house was renovated and upgraded for guests about 8 years ago and we continue to add improvements as the needs arise.
Mom and Pop's cottage is situated on deep water and has a small beach. The shore drops off slowly providing small children with safe places to play in the water. The surrounding 25 acres provide ample opportunities for children and pets to roam around
The interior includes an equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, (a queen bed in one, 2 doubles in the other), one bathroom w shower, living room office space and two screened porches.
The house is located in the historic Northern Neck region of Virginia. Enjoy crabbing, fishing, boating, kayaking, winery tours, local breweries, and the historic homes of George Washington, Robert E Lee and James Monroe.
If you prefer wildlife rather than night life this is the place for you. Wake up each morning to eagles, geese, herons, and local crabbers fishing their pots. This is a quiet rural location with plenty of acreage which will give you the chance to get away from the bustle and stress of the city. Most amenities can be reached within 30 minutes.
A note for those from the city -- we live in an area where "critters" are a fact of life. Some of them are a pleasure to see and some of them are a nuisance. We make every effort to accent the positive and eliminate the negative critters that you may encounter . Should you encounter any unwelcome visitors you should call us immediately and we will address the problem.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet. We enjoyed watching our dog Spud playing in the water he had so much fun. We enjoyed the scenery we saw deer rabbits and crabs which we don't see much in ny. They had everything there we needed. Nancy and Richard were very nice
Nancy and Dick have a very cozy cottage. They were very welcoming...super friendly. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing getaway. We took a long walk one evening and enjoyed seeing some deer and a fox. Great time...next time we will bring our kayaks!
Perfect! Peaceful, beautiful, stocked with everything we needed.
The cottage was really cute & very comfortable for my husband, me & our lab Pearl. She had plenty of room to run around, Chase squirrels, swim & bark at passing boats. Nancy was so nice to work with. We had to push back our first time due to hurricane Florence & cut this time by 3 days due to hurricane Michael. There were fresh flowers throughout the cottage & a bottle of wine to welcome us. Very relaxing!!!
The house was just perfect for our stay and included all the amenities we needed. The owner’s attention to detail was fantastic. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, eating on the screened porch, and exploring the area. Lots of great roads for biking and little wineries for tasting. We also enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Relish Saturday night and a couple of low-key meals at Backdraft, including lunch and NFL football on Sunday. Thank you for providing the perfect little rental for visitors to the area.
As much as I would like to keep this place quiet, it would be a disservice to Nancy & Dick's kindness to not be honest. Nancy welcomed our stay with a bottle of wine and fresh flowers throughout the house. There was plenty of literature providing information about the area, where to eat, local wineries, antique shops, restaurants, things to do, and our favorite - where to get fresh steamed crabs. The cottage was clean and the kitchen well stocked with all the essentials, with plenty of towels & linens to last our two week stay. The property is secluded and quiet, filled only with the sounds of birds, cicadas (?), and an occasional fish jumping from the water. My family and I spent most of our time on the back porch overlooking the water. There we were entertained by a local groundhog, squirrels, deer, and a family of Osprey (with a nest nearby) who spent their days fishing in the river. In the evenings my granddaughter delighted in catching lightening bugs in her glass jar as my daughter and I wondered at the sounds coming off the pond in the woods nearby. When the tide was low, we took advantage of the exposed sandbar on the river, delighting in the warm water and abundance of fish & crabs to chase. And if that wasn't enough, the day before we left, as I was stepping out the door of the back porch, a Bald Eagle flew directly over me. He was so close, I thought he was going to land on the roof. The only negative thing I can say about staying at this property is finding it hard to leave. Having planned ahead with a full itinerary of visits to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Washington D.C., and everything in between, I regret not having more time at the cottage. With a region oozing in early American history, the most gracious and kind people I've encountered in all of my travels, great farm to table restaurants & wineries (Shout out to the crab pie & crème cake @ Callao Coffee Café in Callao and everything on the menu @ NN Burgers in Tappahannock!), this was definitely a five-star stay for me and a place I hope to come back to soon.
