Oakland, California
About this space:
Our house is in the lovely and convenient Rockridge district. We are a 7 minute walk to a transit (BART) station that takes you to and from the airport, directly into San Francisco--or to downtown Oakland or Berkeley. UC Berkeley is easily accessible by bus. Very close to freeway access.
We're a one block walk to College Avenue with restaurants, cute shops and gourmet foods. The neighborhood is quiet and residential.
Our house is good for couples, business travelers, and families (with kids).
The space:
Our craftsman style house was built in 1912 and has all the original fixtures and details, with coved ceilings, moldings, hardwood floors and plaster walls. The large windows and 3 skylights make it light and airy. The kitchen and bathrooms have been completely renovated to provide comfort and convenience. They don't show in the pictures, but there are two 50" TVs--one in the living room and one in the eat-in section of the kitchen.
Guest access:
There's an outdoor gas grill waiting for your steaks, burgers, or tofu. The yard is landscaped with a beautiful stone wall and patio. The outside deck is perfect for morning coffee, or a glass of wine at the end of the day. We have patio heaters to take the chill off hors d'oeuvres on the patio.
The house has a great setup for a family, and the garden is beautiful! It is nicely appointed for having some friends over for dinner. The owners were very responsive and informative and everything was as we expected based on the listing. We managed to get our Toyota Highlander rental car in the driveway but it was a tight squeeze and I would recommend coming with a narrower car if you can. Street parking is fine if you have the car away from the house most of the weekdays. The BART station, restaurants, and grocery stores are all close and it is a lovely neighborhood to take walks in.
