The waterfront city of Plymouth is set in one of the finest locations in the country, it stands right on the border between Devon and Cornwall overlooking the spectacular waters of Plymouth Sound to the south, while the remote beauty of Dartmoor National Park nudges its margins to the north. Both Devon and Cornwall have long been cherished as holiday destinations with fabulous beaches, stunning unspoilt countryside, historic town and many more famous attractions such as the Eden Project. Plymouth city centre has a pedestrianised shopping centre with its undercover shopping centre. It has a large modern multi-screen cinema complex and the well known Theatre Royal which regularly plays host to The Birmingham Royal Ballet in addition to the musicals, plays, comedies and operas that are staged throughout the year. In contrast, The Barbican offers a more cosmopolitan atmosphere being Plymouth city’s oldest quarter. The area overlooks a pretty harbour and includes a variety of small independent shops, a number of wine bars, restaurants and cafes with open air seating.
Plenty to see in Plymouth such as the historic Royal William Yard, the Barbican, Hoe and coastal paths. There is a ferry crossing from Cremyl to Mount Edgcumbe which is an excellent area to explore. The National Trust has numerous locations within easy distance. Ideal to spend an afternoon at Buckland Abbey, the home of Sir Francis Drake with an excellent depiction of his life.
Easy booking process with great communication from host. Property is exactly as advertised and in a lovely location. Went somewhere different every day.
My wife and I enjoyed our stay here it was very relaxing and the locals made us feel welcome at the local watering hole. If i could just say the boathouse could do with a couple of pint glasses as we had nothing to put our beer in. That was our only complaint but is was just a minor complaint. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you.
A beautiful little property positioned perfectly for exploring both near and far. Access to major roads was easy for whichever direction we chose to go. Bus stop at the door for anything close, including the city centre. Hosts were terrific, after a little problem at the very start of our stay. Problem was fixed quickly with supreme good grace and humour.
The accommodation was spacious and very comfortable with sofa and armchair overlooking the river. Really lovely.
Great stay. Lovely little touches left by the host e.g milk, croissants etc. Really nice Boathouse and nice and clean. Ideal location for visiting Cornwall as just over the bridge. Lovely views. Not far from pub if you fancy a quick pint. Totally recommend. Stayed for four nights and was perfect. Definitely be back.
Clean, great views, lovely friendly host, nice chat with her. Loved the Tamar & Saltash area.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Boathouse. This property is nestled under two bridges joining Devon and Cornwall. The view was fantastic. We had a lovely stroll over the Tamar Bridge to Saltash and had a glorious view of the Tamar River and Brunel Railway Bridge.
We had a great stay at Elaine's property and she was very friendly and informative. It was my 50th birthday whilst we visited and she left me a card and cake, there was also a delicious box of fudge ? I would highly recommend staying at this property to anyone I know and hopefully stay there again ourselves in the future ?
We had a lovely relaxing stay in The dog-friendly Boathouse, which included our own dog Teddy, and which is beside the River Tamar in an interesting position right beneath the Tamar Bridge. No problems BUT I would say that if you are OLD people like us, (in our seventies and a bit creaky) there are lots of (steep) stairs which we had difficulty on. I would have liked to have seen a schematic drawing of The Boathouse before visiting; similar to what you get with a caravan. Of course, the local roads are very steep for walking too, but I was already aware from Google Maps of that. I enjoyed their choice of art on the walls but perhaps a little shelf on the wall in the bathroom might have helped. Perhaps I took too many toiletries ! Also, a 2-way light to go up to bed in the roof, then turn it off from upstairs. I used a torch. The hosts were both friendly, and interesting and helpful and when the shower power tripped out, about 7:30 in the morning I phoned their mobile number and it was sorted within 2 minutes. There are plenty of facilities in The Boathouse, including local information, soap and a lovely box of local fudge. There is a really fantastic view sitting on the balcony. It was spectacular, and you can watch the boats on the river. Teddy spent his time often on the fluffy royal blue mat beside the balcony glass doors. I'd recommend the Boathouse to anyone and I'd love to visit again.
Great
