Carrabelle, Florida
Nestled in the heart of Florida's Forgotten Coast you will find a hidden gem we call the No Wake Zone. This is Florida the way it used to be - lazy days, friendly locals and a slower pace in an unspoiled "back to nature" setting. Sitting directly on the Gulf of Mexico you will enjoy unobstructed views of Apalachee Bay, St. George Sound and pristine Dog Island. Unlike many places in Florida, we have an expansive grass front yard (we call the water side our front yard around here) that extends right down to the water's edge. Around these parts, it's not at all uncommon to see a black bear ambling about.
This isn't a place of crowded beaches, boats and cars zipping by every minute and your every whim at your fingertips. No Wake Zone is a place of peace and serenity, a place of the most colorful awe-inspiring winter sunsets showcasing every color in the rainbow... a place of relaxation. Gazing out over the water, you may see a handful of boats pass by as the day goes on, or you might not. We have excellent fishing right out the back door and you won't have to share your newfound honey hole with every angler that zooms by and sees your bent-over fishing rod. We regularly catch red drum (redfish), black drum, flounder and seatrout right off our dock. There is a long sand reef about 1/2 mile in front of our house, and there is world-class tarpon fishing to be had right on the Gulf side of the reef June through August.
Kayaking and paddleboarding are available just steps from your front door. For the offshore fisherman, there is excellent grouper and snapper fishing just a short boat ride from the front door (kingfish, cobia, spanish mackerel and many other species migrate through here in summer.) The great majority of this area is either a state or national forest which offer fun eco-excursion opportunities all year long. Bustling St. George Island is just a short drive away and features restaurants, bars and pristine, nationally acclaimed sugar-white sand beaches. Apalachicola, one of our favorite weekend haunts, is a thirty minute car ride and features excellent restaurants and bars as well as the always fun Oyster City Brewery. If you can bring your boat, Dog Island is a can't-miss day trip. Sitting roughly five miles southwest of the No Wake Zone, "The Dog" is truly unspoiled - very little development and untouched beaches. Many days you will have your own private beach on "The Dog" with nary a soul as far as you can see in either direction. If you get a yearning for the people and the crowds, Seaside, WaterColor and Destin are definite daytrip possibilities.
The house itself is 1600 square feet and features three bedrooms, two bathrooms and gorgeous views from almost every room in the house. No Wake Zone was completely remodeled in late 2018 - the only original elements are the pilings, the roof, the floor joists and the exterior walls. We spared no expense in the remodel - granite counters, genuine hardwood floors, full-tile bath and shower, a Rinnai hot water heater, black stainless appliances including a gas stove are just a few of the appointments in this great home. Our long fishing dock is perfect for fishing or afternoon happy hours. No Wake Zone also features an open back porch across the entire water side of the home that is perfect for an afternoon happy hour. We screened in half of the downstairs area and added a bar area made of re-purposed dock wood (courtesy of Hurricane Michael), complete with a grill, stainless steel commercial tables and huge commercial 2-compartment sink perfect for cleaning and cooking your catch of the day. We are confident you won't be disappointed with the accommodations.
This house is absolutely gorgeous and is in a beautiful location! It's tastefully decorated and with comfortable furniture. The bed in the master is the most comfortable I've ever slept in! We bought a Purple mattress last year and I've already ordered the topper they had on this bed! We very much appreciated that it was fully stocked with everything we could possibly need. Every type of necessity and convenience has been considered and provided. It was just the two of us and we found it to be perfect for a romantic vacation, but it would also be ideal for a family with children or teenagers. Whether you're fishing off the dock or enjoying the beauty of the sunsets (or early risers like myself, sunrises!), you will immediately feel the stress leave you! It's in a nice, central location to area hiking and attractions and the people of Carrabelle are super friendly! Tate's Hell is perfect for those that are more adventurous, Eastpoint Brewery is a nice little gem and Hog Wild BBQ is the craziest little hole in the wall with legit AWESOME BBQ! Take time to drive to St. George Island if you're looking to walk a real pier, do some shopping and do the touristy things. Go to Carrabelle beach before noon and you'll probably have this clean, white sand beach totally to yourself! (It was still mostly deserted other times if the day.) All that being said, you could never leave the house and you wouldn't feel like you missed a thing! The owners are very communicative and helpful and have taken every care to make sure your stay is amazing. They've truly succeeded! Thank you, John and Brenda! We will be back!
I took the trip with my fiance and it has been the best vacation we have ever taken. The house is beautifully decorated. The property owners provided us with everything we needed. The bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable. It was like sleeping on a cloud. The house was perfect. It's the perfect getaway whether you're a couple or a family staying. The fishing was unbelievable. We caught so many fish and a couple of sharks. The location is great too. It's perfect for somebody who doesn't like crowds. We stayed 4 days and we only saw 3 boats go by. This is the perfect location for taking day trips to the beach. St. George Island is close and even going to Panama City beach isn't a bad drive.
