The Space:
When you walk in the front door you will experience the total awesomeness of the place. The wall facing the valley is all windows, made especially to enjoy the view. The deck is made of a composite material, so you will never get a splinter while enjoying the evening view barefoot. There's a swing downstairs to enjoy while watching one of our amazing, stellar sunsets. A hammock is available if desired. There's a breakfast nook to wake up with morning cup of coffee and write, or read, or just take in the beautiful sunrise. Pull up your local newspaper on the free WiFi, or YouTube music/videos, and start the day right. Brand new Courtyard with fountain and Butterfly sculpture bench. This is a townhouse twinned with the neighbor, but all the property's spaces are for your private use.
Please note
Exterior security cameras are in use.
Guest Access:
You will have the entire house, (upstairs 1 bedroom, 1 full bathroom & downstairs is a bedroom, sofa bed, and full bathroom), except for the garage, and my office. After all, I have to have some place to put my stuff. I live here when I'm not out of town working. The key pad is located behind the big sun security door on the front porch next to the road. Open the security door and the keypad is located behind it on the inside door. The door is custom, and brand new, so the handle is a little stiff to turn. It is not locked, just turn it. You will see the keypad, enter your code and turn the handle. Don't push the LOCK button after entering your code. That simply locks it back. If you push any of the buttons, they light up so they are easy to see at night. There's a Ring door bell if you need anything--it will ring on my phone and I'm happy to help you if necessary.
The Neighborhood:
Very safe, quiet, and friendly neighborhood. Many places to hike. Bicycles are always riding around here and challenging themselves with Burkhalter Gap road coming up the mountain. On a good day for flying you'll see hang gliders making runs to the point of the mountain, and back. Scenic highway paints the picture for the area. The mountain faces NW so you will always get to see a spectacular sunset (unless it's raining or overcast, of course). Free internet with a GIG download speeds.
Getting Around:
Scenic highway is just outside the front door. It's also called Hwy 189, Hwy 157. Interstate I-20/I-59 is only 10 minutes away, Hwy 24 is only 20 minutes,, Hwy 136 is only 12 mintues. Both Rock City, and Ruby Falls, are only 13 minutes. The Tennessee Aquarium is only 26 minutes. All the best restaurants are less than 25 minutes away!! Covenant College is only 5 minutes on the same road as Ray's Place is on. Downtown Chattanooga and all the night life is about 26 minutes.
Other Things to Note:
There's a book with all the details of what you can expect from me, and what I expect from you (i.e. the do's and don'ts). I have a lung condition that prohibits me from having pet dander. I LOVE animals, but some people just can't tolerate some of them. Please read the guidebook!
Also, the front of the house has been paved for parking and easy access to the front porch. Or, you can park in the driveway to the side of the house. 6 solar lights illuminate the front porch at night for help getting up the stairs.
I've just designed and created a new courtyard in the front. This includes a butterfly sculpture bench and a 4 tier pineapple fountain. I could spend hours sitting and listening and watching that!!
Please note: There is an extra guest fee of $10 per night per additional person beyond 3 guests. Bookings with undeclared guests will incur additional fees of $50 per undeclared guest per night.
Ray's Place is a duplex with plenty of privacy and peace to enjoy every minute of your stay.
Also, if you have any allergies, please let me know BEFORE booking. Thanks!

My wife and I went for a quick getaway and the only negative thing i could say is we had to leave. There was a sense of peacefulness as you sit on the back deck with the unbelievable view that i can't do justice with words. Ray was an amazing host and we will be back soon. Very conveniently located close to food, shopping activities and trails. My wife says next time we go we are gonna try hang gliding which is located 1 mile away on same road. Thank you Ray....Steaks were awesome!
The view was majestic and the deck is amazing! We arrived way before check-in time, but they were generous to let us drop off our groceries and we went adventuring around Lookout Mountain. Although our stay was great, there are a few things that could be improved. The skillets/pans need to be replaced bc everything stuck to it. The ice maker didn't make any ice. Not much kitchen linens available. There is an office in the the master bedroom. Which it was stated in her listing. Overall, we had a great stay.
Nice view. Used the patio, grill, and fire pit. But the outdoor cushions could be cleaned. Inside pans are cheap so should get new one. Scratched up ones can release metals into ur food. And handle ready to fall off. Need new furniture. Couches have huge holes and metal arm rests jab you. Dining table place mats should be thrown out. Bathroom curtain dirty. Some hairs too. NO drain in bath sink. I knew it would happen and wife lost earring there. Be CAREFUL with ur jewelry. Bedroom.... Plastic mattress cover made you feel like you were wearing a diaper all night. It can wake some people up with the noise. Sheets red stains. Uncomfortable bed too. Pillows... Need more pillows. One pillow, decorative one ... both very thin.
The location itself is great. Its close to Ruby falls, Rock City and Chattanooga which is why we chose it. That being said, when we discovered there was very little toilet paper it took going back and forth for a couple hours to get this resolved because the management company thought we were at a different location and kept telling us to look at places that didn't exist, which definitely cut into the vacation. The bedroom on the main floor would have an amazing few but the window is in part of the owners office so its completely blocked off, therefore no window at all in that room. Its very close to the main road so you hear that traffic as well as the neighbors talking at times which I didn't realize from the pictures. Beds are squeaky and just overall not comfortable. The was the 3rd VRBO we stayed at in our road trip and the only one that we ran into problems with. It does have amazing sunset and even morning views from the deck but I don't think I would book it again.
Great location depending on your plans. It was perfect for us.Enjoyed the beautiful view and all the birds. The home is warm and inviting. I would definitely return. Plenty of nearby hiking and Look out Mountain hang gliding park is approx. 2 miles away. Chattanooga is only about 25-30 minutes.
Very clean property, and the views will not disappoint. Simply just beautiful
Property was awesome. The view was incredible!!!! Interior of the house was very comfortable. Will definitely be staying there again. Was convenient to all of the local attractions. Only thing that was not quite as advertised is the fact that this is a duplex not a stand along cabin. Would this stop me from staying here again? No it would not. House is awesome. If you are looking for a place to just relax or go to town and experience what Lookout Mtn and Chattanooga has to offer this is it!!!!
My wife, son and I chose Ray's Place to stay for our 3-day visit to the area to look at potential retirement properties. We wanted a place with a nice view of the western sky, and we sure got it. While the place is not huge, it was plenty big enough for us, and was one of the cleanest and well kept short term rental that we've stayed in. During the morning, we enjoyed watching the birds feed as light fog burned off from the valley below. We were gone for most of the day, but made a point to make it back for some amazing sunsets. After enjoying dinner out in the city, we came back and fired up the fire pit while we gazed at a beautiful night sky. Ä° recommend unplugging the LED light strip if you want to star watch. The beds were very comfy and the place has just about anything you need. Ä°t's located about 25 min from downtown Chattanooga, but that wasn't an issue for us. We wanted a nice haven, and we got it.
The property is well-maintained and the location is excellent. We stayed there for two nights and enjoyed every moment.
We got there at the check in time listed on the app and in my trip details, the cleaner was still there cleaning and told me checkin was an hour later, which was super frustrating as we planned our drive to get there at check in time. We had to choose a code for the front door, which was not programmed correctly and took awhile to fix. The host was on speaker phone with the cleaner who was trying to fix it and was very rude and reprimanded her in front of us which made me uncomfortable. The first thing we find after finally getting in is pubic hair on the bathroom walls which the host blamed on us saying we caused the cleaner to rush (we told her we didn’t mind waiting for her to finish and we sat outside so she could finish cleaning). There were towels in the dryer we had to put away. A smoke detector in one of the locked rooms beeped our entire stay. The pictures of the bedroom upstairs do not show you the angle of the front of the room which is attached to a locked room, so there are no windows to look out of. Only one end table and no storage in the main bedroom. Because of the lack of windows (we came for the view) we were going to sleep on the couch but it was in very poor condition and bending at the bottom, so it is not sleep-able. The view from the living room and porch is fantastic, but don’t expect waking up to a nice view in one of the rooms upstairs or down. I tried speaking to the host about my issues with the stay, they were very rude, blamed me, and offered zero compensation. Someone else who works there called me and offered a discounted rate for a future stay which is nice, but I won’t be using them or this property again. Also- the listing is cheaper on other rental sites but you must book a 2 night stay, I mentioned this to the host before booking and they didn’t have a helpful response, I should have chosen to book elsewhere right then. Luckily we only came for the mountains which did not disappoint!
This is in the top 5 of all the VRBO’s we have rented in tue past. I can’t wait to find another weekend to head back up to this amazing site.
I reserved this property for my niece and her husband for their first wedding anniversary. They were amazed by the views and outdoor living. It was a relaxing getaway for them. Only one minor hiccup with the code to get into the house, but I was able to connect with the owner immediately and he communicated with my niece very quickly to solve the issue.
The view is absolutely gorgeous!! The place was clean & Ray was a great host! I would recommend this property to anyone.
