----------
This authentic Montana log cabin dates back to the early 1900s! The period homesteader cabin built from Tamarack timbers was originally located deep in the Rattlesnake Wilderness, and it was moved to this site in the early 1930s. The owners spent nearly a year fully renovating the cabin in 2022-2023 with significant attention to detail. The cabin's finish quality is top notch, and the owners care about offering an excellent guest experience.
The views from the cabin are splendid, offering a close-range mountain vista with west facing decks and windows to enjoy sunset colors in the sky. The cabin is set next to a small babbling creek, and is surrounded by a beautiful Montana pine and fir forest.
The one-level cabin features 2 bedrooms, an inviting open-concept living room with gas fireplace, dining area, and abundant natural light. Prepare meals in the fully stocked cooks' kitchen with ample counter space and cabinet storage. Both queen bedrooms feature clean and comfortable linens and mattresses, HVAC mini splits, reclaimed blue pine walls, and inspiring natural light to greet the day. The luxurious bathroom offers a spacious walk-in shower with a teak bench, along with a stackable washer and dryer, plus a wall mounted St Tropez toilet. Relax on the back deck overlooking the view and private grounds, or escape to the lower deck to relax in the 5 person hot tub.
For entertainment, the home features hard wired internet service, plus a swivel-mounted Smart TV in the living room. Board games and interesting coffee table books are also provided for guests to enjoy.
During the warmer months, the cabin stays perfectly cool with cross breezes and A/C from mini splits. During the colder months, the well-insulated cabin has a delightful sense of hygge from the gas fireplace and multiple heaters.

-ROADS / 4WD: The roads leading to the cabin are not steep and are easily accessible almost every day of the year by any vehicle. The roads are paved and maintained until 1/2 mile before the cabin. The remaining 1/2 mile is a private road that often has a snow/ice base in winter. 4WD or AWD vehicles are mandatory during winter months! Guests must be capable of providing their own reliable winter vehicle for travel to and from the cabin.

-SNOW PLOWING (roads and parking): We contract for a plow that typically happens after snow storms conclude. We unfortunately cannot guarantee when the roads will be plowed, however with 4WD you can get around.

-WILDLIFE: The cabin sits at the edge of the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area, which borders the Rattlesnake Wilderness. Wildlife are occasional visitors to the property! These can include bears, mountain lion, elk, deer, coyote, mountain goat, sheep, wolves, numerous species of birds, and more. Please be aware of wildlife and secure all trash in the provided receptacles.

-PARTIES: This is not a good Airbnb to host a party at. We respect our neighbors and we expect all guests to act the same.

-FIRES: Do not for any reason have a fire outside during a burn ban. We will notify you of any burn bans in place during your stay. A fire pit is located next to the creek for guest use when outdoor fires are permitted.
-SECURITY CAMERAS:

(1) Located at the back of the cabin, pointing towards the parking area and entry walkway.

(2) Located on the side of the cabin looking towards the creek, we use this as our wildlife camera. We've seen bears, a cougar, elk, and more!

(3) Located on the back side of the barn looking towards the well house and upper section of the property. This is located far away from the cabin.
-RATTLESNAKE NATIONAL RECREATION AREA: The Rattlesnake Mountains, located only four miles north of Missoula, Montana, and adjacent to the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area, form a rugged and scenic vista for the Missoula Valley. This Wilderness is characterized by scenic lakes, forested ridges, open cliff-banded slopes, and mountain peaks. Elevations in the Wilderness range from 4,200 feet at the southern boundary to 8,620 feet at McLeod Peak. Ponderosa Pine, Lodgepole Pine, Larch, Fir, and Spruce can be found throughout the Wilderness depending on elevation and slope aspect. Approximately 33 miles of trail and 1000's of acres of untrailed terrain allow visitors to explore this area via hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. *Pets are not allowed all year at the main Rattlesnake trailhead! Please reference the information we have in the area about taking your pets hiking, and when/where they are permitted.*

One of the best places we've ever stayed at. The hosts made everything easy. The location was amazing. We felt like we were nestled between hills. Convenient to downtown Missoula and essentially in the Rattlesnake Wilderness area. The cabin had everything we needed. I'm not a hot-tub person but the location was so beautiful I indulged. The stream running by the cabin was a bonus. Next time we're in Missoula, this is where we will be.

This is quaint, nicely appointed log cabin in a quiet, end of the road neighborhood. It is minutes from downtown Missoula yet the cabin and property have a relaxing wilderness feel and are a short walk to the creek and Rattlesnake trailhead. This was our second stay at this property and we would gladly rent again.

The cabin in Rattlesnake is lovely – a great location, very kind hosts, and a beautiful spot in Montana. Unfortunately, due to VRBO, the listing was incorrect, citing 2.5 bathrooms, when really it just had one. I hope this is something the hosts can work out with VRBO – it's a lovely space, it just didn't work well for us since we had 4 people in our party 1 with a chronic illness – the 2.5 bathrooms was one of the reasons we booked. I highly recommend to all guests who only need one bathroom – it was lovely!

Great cabin for a little getaway trip. Perfect base to explore Missoula—which is beautiful! You feel secluded at the cabin but have a quick, easy drive to whatever you need in town. We traveled with young kids (4yo, 2yo, and newborn), the cabin felt safe, clean, and quiet. Also loved that in a quick 5 minute drive we were at a place my family could hike.

Clean quiet area all the facilities were great. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is the beds and sofa weren't very comfortable. I understand not putting a 5 star hotel matress or sofa but it could be a little better without a spending a whole lot.more

We had such a blast! Really nice. Plus, Shane and Collin were very sweet and flexible with us when we needed an extra day in dealing with hurricanes back home.
