Darien, Georgia
Historic home built in the 1880's with all the modern conveniences you'd expect. Steps away from downtown Darien. Come enjoy all the amazing nature sanctuaries and shopping that Darien and nearby St. Simons and Jekyll Island have to offer, all while relaxing in this renovated home built over 130 years ago.
The home itself has two living rooms and a reading room, which make for great space to spread out and relax. A large HD TV with surround sound and HD programming will appeal to movie fans and help pass the time. A reading day bed is great for book worms who want to enjoy some silent time. And for the history buff, historic Fort King George (est 1721) is five minutes away. Finally, if you have a boat, a boat ramp/put in point is less than ten minutes away at Mudcat Charlies. From here you can explore our beautiful waterways and nearby islands, such as Blackbeard, Sapelo, and Little St. Simons island! Adventure awaits because this house has it all!
We needed a place to stay that was centrally located on the Georgia coast. This place is perfectly located so that we could go up and down the coast in little time. We were very pleased with the stocked kitchen as we prepared many of our meals at the house. I am picky about mattresses and the king bed was very comfy. Darien is a nice town and we enjoyed biking around it. Finally, I enjoyed reading about some of the history of the home.
The property is in an excellent location near restaurants and many attractions. Clean house and comfortable beds. We did enjoy the house. We initially had a problem getting the door unlocked. John promptly returned my call and helped. One improvement needed inside is the stove. (We do cook breakfast early because Darien lacks breakfast restaurants.) The burners on the stove do not sit evenly—this makes using them a precarious undertaking. The main TV has 3 or 4 remotes. Who, at 77, knows what to do?? Fortunately, we don’t watch much TV. The info notebook on the house and Darien needs updating. One final comment: I do not like being forced to buy damage insurance or pay a very high deposit, which I’m told I may not have returned. There is just my husband and I. At 77 we are very respectful of others’ property and are early to bed, early to rise. Still, we liked the house and history and enjoyed our stay.
Very nice older house on a quiet street. The house has everything you would need. Very clean. Easy walking distance to several restaurants with the freshest seafood you can get anywhere. St. Simons Island Beach is only 1/2 an hour away and is an easy and beautiful drive. John the property manager responded quickly to any of our questions or concerns. My wife and I loved the house and will definitely stay again.
Charming.
Such a wonderful place! Host is amazing, house was clean, spacious and was a perfect getaway for our family!
My friends and I spent one night in Darien on our way to Florida. We were so glad we found this great home instead of rooms at a chain hotel! The location was perfect, the house was charming, and the owner was very responsive and helpful. We all agreed we would stay here again!
Loved my entire stay, house was very nice, beautifully decored and clean. Loved the area and the neighbors were friendly and helpful. Sleeping six was alright if you had two people willing to sleep in the same bed. Since we are single ladies we would SUGGEST kindly if you are catering to groups to take the queen room and put in two twin beds in one of the rooms.People don't mind sharing a room, but not the same bed if not related. I would like to have a conversation with you to enhance the stay there. It wouldn't be a bad idea, I think. If you had only one room with a bed for a couple. Also the mattress on the beautiful day bed is worn. You can feel the springs. It need better mattress seriously. I got other GREAT suggestions, depending on your budget and vision for this nice property. Please call me I would like to share them with you. Most importantly, we enjoyed our stay. I think you will be receptive, you are a caring owner. Thank you for listening, God Bless!
Easy to find, clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Well equipped for cooking. Excellent host responsiveness to questions. Great location for walking to the waterfront, the historic downtown (town plan compliments of James Oglethorpe), restaurants, and Ft. King George. Easy access to St. Simons and Sapelo Island. Wonderful stay.
Very nice and clean older home. Had everything you would need. Nice and safe neighborhood. We brought our dogs so I had a few late night walks and felt very safe. We spent most of our time house hunting, but we did find time for the beach st. Simons Island. It was amazing also. John was quick to answer all of our questions and let us know if anything was going on. We hope to be back in June or July.
We spent a week at the property and it was exactly as described, easy to get to, centrally located, walking distance to restaurants, able to enjoy area highlights and then come home to a quiet and relaxing environment.
Very comfortable place with nice am.enities
Very peaceful and centrally located to many wonderful areas of coastal Georgia. Comfortable, clean and relaxing home to enjoy.
Second stay in this house, and I hope I can stay here again. It's like walking into your own home. Very well maintained and has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. It's very convenient to local shops and eateries, I don't know you could ask for anything more.
Good location. Worked out well for us for a wedding on Sapelo Island. No issues while we were there.
This 1880’s bungalow is nestled amongst the large oaks with their whispy Spanish moss. Inside we found a perfectly appointed kitchen, two living rooms, two large bedrooms (possibly a third) with comfy beds. Beautifully decorated in relaxing hues, comfy couches and an enormous television with all the necessary accessories and streaming services. We will definitely be returning to this coastal oasis.
While we watched the grandkids our two children and spouses enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of this beautiful home. Great location close to historic downtown Darien. Both our kids told us that life in a small town was growing on them :)
My family stayed the night on our way home from Disney The house was clean and right off the highway the host recommended a nice place for dinner and we had a great night
Darien Cottage is charming. The location is ideal, close to historic sites, Saint Simon’s Island, and Sea Island. It sits amidst a covey of late nineteenth and early twentieth century cottages and is surrounded by beautiful wetlands. It’s also a very short walk into the tiny, historic center of Darien. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking and everything that you might need is available in the pretty, bright rooms. Fine wine and fresh seafood are a short walk away. Very comfortable and a nice place to relax, enjoy cooking meals of local shrimp and fish, and sit in the backyard beneath an old oak tree festooned with Spanish moss. Owner responded promptly to all of our questions about the house and local amenities.
All around great.
