Quaint Lockwood River Cottage

Made for a magical stay in the Taupo region

The cottage was cute. The amenities were not as advertised. For example, there wasn’t a coffee grinder, the washer had someone’s wet clothes still in it, etc. We had to bring our own sheets and towels (which the host said was a local norm, but we asked a handful of locals who said this was not normal). We also had to dispose of our trash at a dump at a cost! The host was very persistent that we call him to get instructions on how to enter the cottage, and I had to explain multiple times that my phone couldn’t connect the call. The host eventually explained the house instructions via messages, which wasn’t complicated at all. Check out instructions were only available via the VRBO app, and there is no wifi. This just made it not as smooth. The location was close to some activities we had planned and the neighborhood was quiet.

Couldn't of wished for anything better, walked the Tongariro Alpine Crossing , would of been nice to have a hot tub., only joking. Everything was fantastic. Thanks very much.

Nice little place, the host was very good. But the aircon was broken which made the hot summer days stifling and unpleasant. You cannot advertise the property as having aircon if it is broken. Also, the bathroom tap was leaking and very noisy - a bit annoying when trying to sleep. Driveway is very narrow, not straight-in and unsuitable for our tandem boat trailer, which we didn't realise until we arrived on site. Overall: disappointed.

Great location, easy check in. Looks just like the photos. Plenty of cooking facilities in the kitchen and nice outdoor area.

Such a fabulous place for my parents to stay. Peaceful and close to both the town and the river. Awesome.

Perfect quiet location for myself and my work colleague. Comfortable rooms and everything we needed was at the property. Bruce was great to deal with and the check in process was easy. I especially liked the history of the cottage written in the front of the Visitors Book and the old family photos around the house.

Lovely cosy bach with everything we needed for a family holiday, including a couple of board games. Short drive to Turangi shops, Tokaanu got pools and Lake Rotopounamu.

A very comfortable cottage for 2. The fireplace and a heatpump were much appreciated in the winter climate during cold evenings and chilly mornings. The highway is a good distance away so a good night sleep is assured. Clean and tidy. The carport helped keeping the car windows ice free in the mornings although the parking for a larger vehicle could be quite tight. Good outdoor space for the warmer times of the year.

Great spot for anyone looking to be on the right side of town and within walking distance to the Tongariro River.

Perfect location for our little trip away me, my 2 kids and their nana. The cottage is well maintained and we enjoyed our stay. No internet (if it was we didn’t find the instructions) but ok for 2 days. A little heater n bathroom/toilet would be great but not essential.

Bruce has been super helpful and specific about the check in process and has been super accommodating when we had to change the dates last minute. Very nice to chat to on the phone when he explained how to access the house. The cottage has a cozy and rustic feel and was build by his grandparents. We very much enjoyed our stay and would come again!

Our second time here and it is a great place to stay. The owner, Bruce, is really helpful and makes every effort to ensure your stay is all it could be.I would strongly recommend this property for long or short stay.

Came in 2024 and left in 2025. Managed to pick up a few days in Turangi to catch up with South Island friends, so accommodation was used primarily for sleeping which was achieved with great ease given the bach is on a nice quiet street. Easy walk to local cafe and walks along the river. Can recommend.

Basic old-school holiday cabin. Perfect for getting away from the business of life. Great outdoor area for the summer and a fire for being cosy in the winter

Nice cottage. Well equipped. Quiet surroundings. Lots of nature in the area. In the neighbourhood of Taupo.

The bach was very comfortable and well situated for walks along the river and access to the shops and cafes of Turangi. However Vrbo did not allow me to access the flyer sent by Bruce which might have helped us and I found the security systems and locks a bit challenging. The flyer might have helped.

Worked really well for us. A very typical Kiwi bach with everything included. The owner, Bruce. Very helpfull and easy to deal with. We are booked again in January and may make this a regular stay.

Cozy place for Labour Weekend very close to biking walking and fishing.

A lovely little space, exactly as advertised. Spacious and private outdoor areas, and very well equipped indoors. Close to the river and the town. All we could wish for. Owner very proactive and helpful. Highly recommended!

Very nice having an open fire. Good size for 2 fishermen, kitchen and bathroom a little cramped. Overall V good

Compact and cosy with the log fire, Is in a quiet location within easy walk of town or river. Bruce gave the information needed well beforehand. Has a couple of maintenance issues eg the toilet cistern runs so was quite noisy and couldnt work out the tv so didnt use it while staying. Should be straightforward fixes.

Bruce’s place was a great little place for ourselves and our kids. Was clean, tidy and warm. Had a lovely private outdoor area and was close to town. Would recommend!
