My sister and I, our spouses, children, and dogs enjoyed our Thanksgiving in the WV mountains. We were even treated to a light snow one of the nights. The house property were exactly as expected. The house has absolutely everything that you can imagine or need. Plenty of bedding, towels, and the kitchen was very well stocked. John was an excellent host and very helpful when the cloudy days depleted the solar energy store and we needed to start the generator. We loved our stay and would definitely consider returning.
This property is very unique and a gem of a find on VRBO. It's tucked up at 4,000 feet in SE West Virginia, Far from civilization but not so remote that it's eerie feeling or tedious to get to the world when necessary. This is truly an off-grid place to disappear at and gain peace of mind and peace of heart. John is an excellent owner and VRBO Rep and cares deeply about this special home and location. I highly recommend experiencing West Virginia Bliss in the mountains. This is a truly memorable place.
Would 100% recommend this property. We chose the Cranberry Mountain Lodge as our wedding venue, and it was magical. The property was spectacular, and John and Linda went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. It rained during our wedding, but then we woke up to a mountain sunrise with fog in the valley and the autumn leaves shining through. Simply incredible!
Cranberry lodge. We really enjoyed our stay at John’s cabin. It is spacious, comfortable and has everything you might need. The views from the deck are breathtaking!!! You feel like you are floating in the beautiful mountain scenery. There are so many things to do around the cabin— hiking, swimming playing various games. John was very welcoming and responsive host. All of our questions were answered in a very timely manner. Thank you, John!!
We had a great stay at Cranberry Lodge — 6 dads and 10 kids, we went Mountain Biking, Kayaking, and hiking. House was great and John was incredibly helpful!
Perfect getaway, responsive host, great memories made. Views, hiking and time around the fire! Hope to return again soon.
There are so many positives I'm not sure where to start. First off John is an amazing host- responsive, informative, direct, helpful. The house itself is beautiful, quiet, enormous, with all the amenities you could need. It's rustic ambiance and furnishings with a kitchen loaded with modern appliances and really anything you might use. Everything was incredibly clean- rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and the property itself so well tended to- which there is a lot of!There's hiking right out the back door and tons to do within 20-30 minutes. It's a special place to appreciate the beauty and your surroundings in sheer quiet- like hearing the wind blow quiet. If you appreciate this kind of stuff, you will be delighted as the house is so comfortable and spacious- it's makes it easy to get away. Thank you John!
We are already strategizing about how and when to return. John is a terrific host and it is clear that the Cranberry Lodge -- built by him, his wife and father -- is a labor of love. How very fortunate we all felt (12 of us) to get to stay there and enjoy the beautiful mountains, the serene atmosphere, the cool nights and the isolation. Wow!! We could not recommend it more highly. The only challenge is that wifi and cell servife is spotty, but that leaves more time to enjoy the beauty.
The views are breath taking and make the 15 minute driveway worth the drive! The lodge is beautiful, the pond is perfect, great bonfires, and views for days. Guests be warned though the WiFi is not what we were anticipating. We were told 2-3 streaming devices would work on the internet, sadly one device could barely open a page. We were downloading at 1.7 mbps. He informed us ahead of time that ATT has coverage at the lodge. We got some reception and were told there was a repeater to strengthen the signal. What we weren’t told is that the phone needs to sit directly below the repeater in order to work to make a hot spot. Overall we made it work, but I do not advise going if you intend on working remotely. The hottub also did not work. He was very clear up front that it was not a traditional hottub which we were ok with. The problem is there was a valve missing and the hottub couldn’t hold water. We mentioned it on day is one and sent pics but it was never fixed. On the last few days the septic tank also backed up flooding the basement with the backup. He was unable to get anyone up there to fix anything while we were there.... but the views!
I did not realize the National Park was really in the backyard. We can hop on a trail right behind the backyard. It is also a trail maintained for mountain bikers, and we got to meet the folks maintaining the trail. Use MTB project app for that! We spent almost everyday swimming in the little pond. The kids loved finding newts in the pond. The view is phenomenal. We were there for 4th of July, and while super small and quiet, we could see about 5 different places doing fireworks that night, because your view is so expansive. The owner was just so amazing and attentive to details too! I also really enjoyed seeing all the off-grid stuff, and loved learning about it while I was there. The house is amazing, and so much room, skylights, lots of windows, just beautiful. There is also so much to do, we worried about that with our kids for a whole week, but the only times we left were when we were hiking on the trail in the backyard, which leads right to the nature museum/info center with live snakes, and lots of fun learning for the kids. Some of the things we brought to do weren't even opened, because we just didn't need it. The property was beautiful, well maintained, and just lovely. And the icing on the cake is having an owner who is so lovely and helpful, but we also didn't need the help, but we knew he was there. I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture - amazing place!!!
