Stoddard, New Hampshire
Relaxing waterfront cottage on Highland Lake in Stoddard. Beautiful lake views from every room. Probably one of the best locations on the lake, with 282 feet of water frontage and end-of-the-road privacy. Faces west for all day sun and spectacular sunsets. Sandy shallow section in water for little ones plus a nice big dock for your boat. Please read our reviews to understand the spectacular aspects of this home. We provide a canoe, paddles, and life jackets free for your use and can deliver a rowboat for a small fee. Small general store in town for last minute provisions, and the lake has a nice little marina with friendly hosts. Enjoy the serenity on this quiet, pretty lake in the wonderful Monadnock Region of NH.
Highland Lake is over 7 miles long. The home and spacious yard represent a perfect place to relax and unwind looking out at this peaceful lake. On any given day you will see kayakers, canoe travelers, and paddle boarders, and an occasional waterskier. Not to mention fishermen young and old catching large and small mouth bass! Several families of loons, some eagles, and a blue heron call this lake their home and you'll almost certainly see them during your stay.
If you would like to explore the area, the towns of Hancock and Peterborough are 20-25 minutes away, and Keene has all the stores you need if that's your thing. Mt. Monadnock is roughly a half hour away, and the best blueberry picking can be found at Pitcher Mountain, within a 5 min drive. The Harris Center in Hancock is worth a trip, or see the Scottish Highlanders on your way to Pitcher Mt. for a hike and view that's unsurpassed in this area.
There is a master bedroom with a queen bed and another bedroom with two twins, and clean, simple, modern amenities.
Weekly or monthly rental inquiries welcome.
The property looks just like the listing; it’s so beautiful. Simple decor, very roomy, comfy beds/couch, a kitchen to die for & everything one would need to prepare meals was there. The views from every window were spectacular & it was so quiet! My husband, myself, & our little dog traveled to NH to celebrate my husband’s birthday & I swear we didn’t want to leave the house. The owners have a canoe for use w/life jackets/paddles & a fire pit. It was rainy during our 4 day stay so we only lit the fire pit that last couple of days which was fine! You need to bring your own firewood but the owners were kind enough to have it delivered! They were also very responsive, accommodating & kind people. I could go on forever about our wonderful experience but you should trust me & rent it!
Nice lakeside cottage. Clean and comfortable staycation. Beautiful lakeside views. Would schedule less excursions for a return stay next time to enjoy the property more.
Very relaxing and quiet just what we wanted. There are some nice towns in the area to visit for lunch or dinner.
The house was very clean and met our requirements. However, the steep drive into the property and then the steep hill into the house was fairly treacherous for two people in their late 70’s. Would recommend this get mentioned in the write up. Home owner was very attentive which I very much appreciated. The lake had loads of weeds in it which made fishing impossible
Relaxing, peaceful, and amazing views.
The accommodations where clean and modern. All the appliances worked fine. The grounds were lush and well maintained. While not plentiful, the provided amenities were welcome. WiFi was a must have, as cell phone service in the area was non existent. The dock seems new and made easy access of the waterfront. The terrain from/to the parking lot and house is a bit treacherous. Especially after a rain storm. Not recommended for people who have difficulty walking. The house is big and spacious. Seems it could easily sleep more than 4 people. The lake itself is nice, but seems to have a lot of boating activity.
We were looking for a Spring vacation getaway on a lake with views, water access and a canoe. These requirements were all met at this lake front home. The canoe was in great condition and while paddles were available, we brought our own. The dock was solid and well maintained. We caught fish both in the lake and off the dock. The road access concerns from previous reviews have been remedied. We like to cook while away and thoroughly enjoyed cooking on the Wolf gas stove. The cookware was sufficient for our needs. Plan to bring your own spices and small pantry items. We left some items for the next guest. A teapot would have been useful, and the owner is addressing this. He is also addressing the small repair needed for the gas grill. The beds were comfortable, and bathrooms were clean. As it was early May we did need to use the heat in the evening and the heating units quickly warmed us up. The communication with the owner, Tim, was excellent and he checked in on us often. We plan on returning to this lake front home with our puppy in tow.
the owners were very attentive when we had questions we sent a message and they responded quickly
My Family and I had such a great time! Definitely looking into coming back in the summer time!!

Great location, you feel like you have the lake to yourself.
We had a wonderful time fishing, soaking up the sun, kayaking watching sunsets and roasting marshmallows over the fire! The house was clean and well stocked with everything we needed during our stay, we will definitely consider this home again for future stays!
My husband and I stayed at the lake house for a week and did not want to leave. The property is right on the water and at night you could hear the waves lapping up onto the shore. It is so peaceful and relaxing. The house is surrounded by trees which makes it very private. The house itself has everything you need and was very clean. We would definitely return if ever in this area again.
We had a great week in Stoddard. The house is very nice, clean and well equipped. The driveway is steep and uneven - not so unusual for a lakehouse and ok in a truck, but would be a bit daunting in a car. The master bedroom has the most amazing view on three sides. The local area is very rural, but there are a lot of good day trips. Peterborough, Jaffrey, Dublin and Harrisville was one good day. Great sandwiches at the Dublin Market, and restaurants in Peterborough. Another day we went to Vermont - Queechee, Woodstock, Weston and Chester. Also - Grafton, Bellows Falls, Rockingham VT and Walpole, NH. Don’t miss Leslie’s Tavern in Rockingham! We also had a great dinner at Oak and Grain in New London, NH. Add in relaxing by the lake, coffee with a view, sunsets on the lake, and being able to bring our dogs, it was a perfect week. Definitely recommended!
This is a lovely house right on the lake with beautiful views. It’s very comfortable and roomy with 2 bedrooms upstairs. The downstairs is open with beautiful views. The house was spotless and well appointed. We had everything we needed. We loved the dock and we spent a great deal of time just sitting on it and relaxing. We unfortunately did not have great weather for swimming or kayaking but we enjoyed ourselves anyway. Peterborough is a short drive away and a very cute town with some unique local shops. We ate at a pub named Harlows and it was really delicious. We had to wait for a table but it was worth it. We also took a drive to Keene. Not really our bag but more shopping with stores like Target, Kohls etc. We had dinner in downtown Keene at the Stage Restaurant and it was wonderful. Highly recommend it. Pitcher Mountain is close to the house and a fun hike up to an old fire tower. We hiked it two different ways and both are doable for most anyone including children. There is a cute waterfall that can be kayaked to from the camp. Worth a paddle. If you love to cook (and I do) you will appreciate the Viking stove. Our little dog swam for the first time and also enjoyed the dock area and the water. The instructions on how to operate everything in the house were clear and the closing instructions were also clear. My husband and I especially appreciated the Chrystal clear instructions on how to use the TV as we are technically illiterate and the instructions were perfect. We had one problem while there and the owners were immediately responsive and went right to work on it. So the weather wasn’t great, but nobody has control over that. We still had a wonderful week in a nice house on the lake. Thank you Tim and Jaimee. Jim, BJ and Gilda.
Great updated lake home with gorgeous views from every room...perfect for totally unwinding with our dogs. Our lab was in heaven!
