Valdez, New Mexico
Welcome to Pinon Paradise, our serene mountain retreat! Located between Taos (10 miles) and the Ski Valley (9 miles), it is perfect for summer and winter activities. Shops and restaurants in Arroyo Seco are only 3 miles away.
This home is truly special and unique. The extensively landscaped grounds are incredible. Guests are encouraged to pick and eat seasonal herbs and vegetables as well as cuttings from the wildflower garden. Depending on the time of year, you may be able to enjoy herbs, fresh vegetables, apples and grapes! In the winter, the snowy backdrop is the perfect end to a powdery ski day.
The home has high vigas ceilings and radiant heat floors. The back of the house has breathtaking views of Taos Mountain and spectacular sunrises. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would need to prepare meals. There are two king bedrooms and a queen sleeper sofa (that is actually comfortable! It is a platform pull out with a gel mattress). There is one full bathroom.
Outside, there is a private hot tub with overhead string lights. The hot tub has views of the mountain that are the perfect end to a long day. The fire pit is surrounded by four large Adirondack chairs and encourages you to sit and relax (blankets are provided for the cool desert evenings).
If you are traveling with small children, there is a pack and play available.
4 wheel drive or chains required during snow.
Please note there is a Casita on the same property, situated with maximum privacy for each home. The homes are about 20 yards apart. Each home has it's own driveway and hot tub, but the grounds (fire pit, garden) are shared by both properties. If you have a larger group, please see the listing for reserving both properties as a "compound."
While this is a new listing, this property has been rented for years with numerous five star reviews. We have decided to rent without a management company because we want to know you, our guests, better!
We had a longer summer vacation planned and stayed at the property for a few nights along the way. We stay in places as a getaway from the heat as well as the hustle and bustle of the city and this rental provided. It has amazing views of the mountains and is relatively secluded. There are plenty of activities within driving distance, we went hiking, white water rafting and some shopping in the Taos plaza. I didn't book through VRBO and didn't have phone service, so had no way of communicating with the owner or caretaker. There is a rulebook with a way to contact the caretaker if you book through VRBO. We wanted to use the firepit but after having to research the laws, it's illegal without getting a permit 48 hours ahead, so we refrained. The kitchen has a full array of utensils if needed. The beds are comfortable but I forgot that not many houses in Taos have central cooling so it made for some warmer nights than we're accustomed. Unfortunately for us, the hot tub water was filthy.
We love our warm and cozy 5 nights stay in this skiing season. It can be one of the hottest properties in VRBO if it's organized and cleaned better. We love the remoteness of the house. It's better to arrive before dark for an easier drive on the unpaved road with sharp turns. 4 wheel drive is preferred. The way to Tao's Skiing Valley can be called a scenic drive. Ms Amy is quick in responding, check in is smooth.
Pure peace and tranquility, amazing views, amazing home and property, can’t beat this gem of a location! Would love to come back again to this truly special place. Thank you Amy for a first class experience!
We loved this beautiful adobe home. It was artfully decorated, cozy, quiet and comfortable. The kitchen/dining/living area is large and open; the bedrooms are roomy with comfy beds. There are huge picture windows and an outdoor seating/firepit area that were great for watching the gorgeous sunsets overs Taos Mountain and stargazing in the clear night sky. We appreciated the outdoor blankets that allowed us to sit ouside in the cool temperatures. We enjoyed soaking in the hot tub. There are many scenic drives and hiking opportunities in the area. We had wonderful meals at Farmhouse Cafe and the Taos Mesa Brewing mothership location which is close to the Rio Grande Gorge bridge. The host provided excellent directions to the home and was always quick to respond. We’d love to return in the summer in order to experience the garden.
Location was perfect right between Taos and the ski valley. The place was as advertised or better. Would love to come back!
Very cute Lil home. Clean and comfortable house. Hot tub was great. Comfortably fit four adults. Road in was a little off the beaten path but as long as you followed directions you were fine. Wish I could have been there in the summer to utilize the gardens! Less than thirty from the ski resort
Wonderful cozy home close to the mountains and to the Taos Cow in Arroyo Seco! Clean, well kept and well equipped!
This property in Valdez is great if you want to be between the ski valley and the town of Taos. Quite location, well-stocked, with plenty of room to spare. We enjoyed our stay here!
If you're coming up to Taos to ski and considering staying at one of the overpriced properties in the ski valley itself you should probably reconsider; your judgment is questionable. Poor decision making is not something you want to bring to this mountain. Over the years I've stayed at a number of rentals, both in and around the ski valley, and can say without hesitation that Pinion Paradise is where you want to camp out. Fifteen minutes from the base area, sited on some seriously gorgeous wooded acreage with nice views of Taos Mountain. Newer house with a large, well-equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms each with a television and a living room made for relaxing after a hard day on the slopes. The private outdoor hot tub comfortably seats four and is just outside the kitchen door. There appears to be another rental nearby (maybe 20 yards away) but the only neighbors we encountered were the local pack of curious pooches who came around whenever bacon was being fried up. If this is your first trip to the ski valley, particularly during the winter season, save yourself some money and stay here. Taos Ski Valley isn't Aspen or Vail, not by a longshot. Unless you want to drive in to Taos proper there's not all that much to do and very limited dining options, particularly on weekdays. You're better off sticking around this cozy corner of Valdez, maybe grabbing dinner at Aceq in Arroyo Seco (10 minutes away) and soaking the night away thinking about which runs you're going to hit the next day.
We loved our three nights in this cozy adobe cottage! Short drive to Taos ski resort(20min) and the house was just lovely! Gorgeous snowfall made it a winter wonderland while we were there and our kids enjoyed the sleds available and we all enjoyed the hot tub to end each day and the gorgeous views!
The house and grounds were lovely and comfortable. The artwork and decor were very tasteful and appropriate for northern New Mexico. We enjoyed the views of the mountains, the hot tub in the cool evenings and access to the vegetable garden (picked carrots and squash for dinner one night). Location is close to the Ski Valley, Arroyo Seco and Taos. The owner was always quick to respond to questions and the check in process was super easy. FYI, there is another home on the property close to this one. This is very clearly stated in the description. We had neighbors for part of our stay which decreased the feelings of solitude but did not detract from the overall satisfaction of our visit.
Beautiful and well appointed house. All amenities - hot tub was great to relax muscles after hikes, bouldering and fishing streams. Beautiful view of mountains, fruit on trees, vegetables in garden, flowers in garden. Quiet, remote, easy access to Arroyo Seco and Taos town center. Our best stay in Taos yet!
Very nice, clean, and roomy casa. Beautiful setting with the gardens and very private. Easy access and entrance to the house and close to the mountain trails. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for sharing your house.
The home was a perfect place for a getaway. The grounds are gorgeous and so welcoming.
The grounds and setting are lovely. The adobe house is charming, but in need of a good cleaning. The laundry area and bathroom shower and toilet were not clean, and there were food crumbs and dirt on most furniture surfaces when we arrived. Main kitchen light was not working due to a missing switch and the overhead sink lights needed new bulbs. The house needs some attention, but it is a very pretty property.
Awesome house in a beautiful part of New Mexico! Spacious with a great hot tub and fire pit! Would come back
This is a perfect place to stay when visiting Taos. The property is comfortable, private and quiet. We felt so at home it was difficult to pack up and head back to our everyday lives!
This property was absolutely beautiful! The house is well equipped and spacious! The online pictures represent it well. And the property was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed time in the hot tub after our ski days and sitting around the fire pit both in the morning with our coffee and at night while stargazing. And the family room provided ample space for us to enjoy games in the evening. The location was great for accessing Taos Ski Valley, Arroyo Seco, and Taos. We will definitely rent this property again!!
Nice little house in the Valdez area, roomier that the pictures suggested. Appreciated the well-stocked basic supplies. Warm enough to enjoy the firepit one night, cool enough for great spring skiing at Taos. Can't go wrong here. Thanks!
