Come enjoy the big views from our beloved family home and find your heart's delight in canyon country. The home is a custom octagonal beauty with an open concept modeled after the Kiva construction of the local Ancestral Pueblo. Fully stocked kitchen with granite counters and a breakfast bar overlooks a 6-person dining area and a wall of windows with breathtaking views. The comfortable living area has two full sized couches, a leather click clack style futon and a big screen tv with streamingservices. The master bedroom has a brand new cali king Leesa mattress and a spacious en suite. The second bedroom also has a full en suite bathroom and is ready for guests big and small (it's our kid's room when we stay there and has a few toys for your littles to enjoy if you bring them). There is a full sized bed and a full sized futon in the second bedroom. The house is full of art and crystals with high vaulted wooden ceilings, making the space feel open and inviting. But it's the incredible views from the glass walls in all rooms are really the star of the show.

Speaking of stars, this house is perfect for stargazing. The light pollution is basically zero which affords you incredible views of the milky way, meteor showers and eclipses. But fear not: even out here in the middle of everywhere, the internet is strong! We have rural broadband with no limits, so you can stream anything and everything. I teach Zoom classes here with zero connectivity issues. There is, however, very little cell service in the area, so we recommend connecting to wifi and enabling wifi calling on your cell during your stay. We also have a house phone in case that isn't possible.

Nestled in what's known as upper valley just 15 minutes west of the town of Escalante, we think this gated 50-acre property has perfect combination of privacy and accessibility. You will not see a single neighbor, but just down the road in either direction, you'll find all the amenities you need and the best outdoor recreation the world has to offer. 15 minutes east is the gorgeous town of Escalante, with great restaurants, awesome guide shops (Escalante Canyon Outfitters!), amazing hiking, proper coffee (Escalante Canyon Outfitters again!), and even an organic seasonal market and a pub, both rarities in southern Utah. Continue on another 15 minutes and you'll reach Calf Creek Recreation Area, then Boulder Mountain, and finally Capitol Reef National Park, the least-visited hidden gem of Utah's big 5, only 1.5 hours from our home base and worth every minute of that drive, named as one of AAA's most beautiful drives in the country every single year. 15 minutes to the west of our home, you'll find Kodachrome Basin State Park and the town of Tropic. Another 15 minutes and you're in Red Canyon State Park, then another 15 and you're in Bryce Canyon National Park. Continue on another 45 minutes and you'll find yourself at the North entrance of Zion National Park heading into the famous Carmel Tunnel. We're also close to some of the country's best hunting and we welcome hunting parties as we would any other pack of adventurers!

WINTER CONSIDERATIONS: Between Mid-November and March there is a possibility of snow on the long, sloped driveway. 4wd/Awd is highly recommended during this time. But this is also one of our absolute favorite times to visit. Our old Dodge and our Subaru have no trouble, and the weather is typically sunny and just warm enough that hiking is perfect with the right gear (a warm light coat, winter hat, hiking pole, and shoe chains if it's snowy). We're also only 2 hours from Brian Head, southern Utah's best ski mountain, just outside of Cedar City.

DISTANCE TO AIRPORTS: The house is about 5 hours from either Salt Lake City airport or Las Vegas Airport. There is also a small airport in Cedar City.

Kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possibly need. The view was breathtaking. Peaceful, quiet and cozy. At the end of the day it was a perfect place to sit and share stories of our day. Would definitely stay again.

I agree with the other reviews that this is an outstanding property offering a very well equipped and comfortable place to stay. We enjoyed the short drive into and from town which is quite scenic. As others have mentioned, make sure you know the directions to the property and set a location pin on your map function before heading out because there is no cell service in the area. The WiFi at the property however is quite good. Sky viewing at night is spectacular. The host was quickly responsive to a few questions we had, and had some recommendations for hikes tailored to our specific interests. She is obviously quite excited about the area and interested in helping us make the most of our stay. There are hiking guide books and trail maps available which were very helpful in our adventure planning. Check in and check out was simple when following the very detailed instructions. Overall we can enthusiastically recommend this property. We enjoyed it so much we received permission to stay an extra day, and would have stayed longer if possible. We are looking forward to coming back soon.

What a cute little bungalow! If you read nothing further than this, don’t forget to look at the stars at night and enjoy the quiet! Laura was an excellent host, very attentive, despite being on vacation herself, and gave us excellent directions to the house (there’s no cell service so we followed her directions, not the GPS). The house was homey and perfectly suited for our needs. There’s tons of nice cookware, space, great recommendations in the guestbook, the views are phenomenal, and Escalante is about a 15 minute drive where you can refuel, grab coffee and food, groceries etc. We would stay there again!

This is a wonderful place to stay! The views from the house are stellar, it's easy driving to many hikes in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and just a 10 minute drive into the town of Escalante. While it's close to Route 12, you can't hear any traffic from inside the house and there aren't any nearby neighbors. Laura was responsive to texts to help me get settled when I first arrived, and instructions throughout the house were very clear about how things work. Altogether a lovely visit.

Very good stay. Beautiful location and home. Needs better cooling and ventilation especially when temperature is above 80 degrees. Doors and blinds need maintenance. We'll supplied kitchen and furnishings. Close to parks.amd the town of Escalante for food.

The property is outside of the town of Escalante, so it's situated well if you want to to both Bryce (45 min) and Grand Staircase Escalante (15 min - to the entrance near Hole In the Rock Road). We had 2 couples in our group, and the house was great for us. Cooked dinner and had plenty of implements, but should count on bringing your own spices, oil, etc. There was a little bit there, but not much. Similarly, plan on bringing your own soap / shampoo / conditioner / etc. There was laundry detergent. I didn't see that in the listing, and am used to that stuff being available, so I wasn't totally prepared. The property, as the listing says, is on its own large piece of land so there are no neighbors around which was great. SO MANY STARS!! If you're coming at nighttime, or even in the daytime, it's a bit tricky to notice from the highway but the host gave us great directions. There is a small table and 4 chairs outside to sit on, but not really much in the way of patio furniture out there. A little more lounging stuff out there would be nice. Beds are comfy, particularly after we removed the eggcrate topper and plastic sheet! Really comfy mattress. Due to there not being shades on most of the windows, it is BRIGHT in the morning! It's a great spot, we would stay again for sure.

The property is located between Tropic and Escalante with zero neighbors. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed to prepare all of our meals. Great place.

Great location for exploring Bryce, Escalante, Capitol Reef, Boulder mountain, and adjacent areas. Nice modern kitchen with dining table, fridge had water and ice feature, washer/dryer, 2 full bathrooms, powerful shower, 2 bedrooms (one with king bed, one with double bed), inside was very clean. House gets warm with all the floor to ceiling windows. Only drawback is you can’t open them to get cooler air in at night, but ceiling fans worked well. Neat round shaped house that worked perfectly for two friends exploring the parks! We each took a bedroom and had our own bathroom.

We had a great time staying at this unique home in Escalante. Even though it was cold outside we stayed nice and warm. Everything was very clean and we had everything we needed. The hiking was amazing, the area is beautiful and would definitely stay again.

    1) A bit more parking space might have helped. 2) Need to trim the brush alongside the driveway so as not to scratch the cars.
