SPECTACULAR VIEWS await you at Kahoa House for your Hawaiian holiday. Early-birds and mainlanders adjusting to the time difference can enjoy a cup of Ka’u coffee in the comfortable living room, and watch the sun rise out of the Pacific through the large east-facing window. Our promontory juts into the ocean near a turn in the coastline. Looking left you see the surfers and paddle boarders ride waves at Honoli'i Cove, and beyond you see several other headlands along the coastline to the north. Looking right you have a view of Hilo Harbor to the south, where cruise ships land for port of call, and Leleiwi Point off to the east. Especially during winter, whale sign dot Hilo Bay before you.

KAHOA HOUSE’s 3BR/3BA DESIGN ensures a comfortable and efficient stay for you and your family. Two master suites each feature king-size beds, ocean views, double vanities, and walk-in showers (one with steam!). The third bedroom is also set with a king bed (separated to two twin beds upon request), has a built-in granite desk, and an en suite bathroom with tub/shower. The bathrooms and kitchen are adorned in stone and granite, and wood floors stretch throughout the house. The long axis of the main living area, with its wooden floors & paneling, and panoramic views of the ocean below, give the house a nautical feel. The décor has a SE Asian influence with Buddhist artwork collected from travels in that region. The kitchen is well appointed for cooking family meals, including a nice set of All Clad stainless steel pots and pans, good knives, and a wide assortment of kitchen gadgets. The deep sink with double faucets and dish washer aid with cleanup. While the house is comfortable with ocean views from most rooms, you may still want to spend most of your time outside. Walk barefoot in the spongy green grass and admire the coconut palms swaying overhead. Dine al fresco on the main lanai. As the sun sinks below the ‘Aina behind you, watch the ocean and sky turn colors. Retire to the cozy, cushioned, rattan furniture for more conversation and another glass of wine. Or, move to one of the two decks on the other side of the house. The balmy Trade Winds make the outdoors pleasant well into the evening. Afterward, set the mood as you like indoors with lighting on dimmers. At the end of the day, crawl into a comfortable bed, and listen to the sound of the ocean as it breaks on the shore, lulling you to sleep.

A WELL EQUIPPED RENTAL HOME. We have travelled the world and done many trips in VRBOs, so we understand and appreciate the value of a well equipped home. There's nothing worse than bringing in the groceries to find only one scratched-up pan with the Teflon falling off. We've stocked the KITCHEN with All Clad stainless steel pans, a few non-stick pans, Henckel knives, prep bowls, and lots of kitchen gadgets. EXERCISE - do yoga on the lanai as you watch for whales! We have 3 yoga mats, a sit-up pad, and resistance bands for your use. BEACH - 6 beach chairs, two sizes of coolers, and 3 body boards of various sizes. WHALES - 2 pair of binoculars for your use at the house. RAINY DAYS - 3 large golf umbrellas, a selection of classic board games, playing cards, UNO, old maid, and a small assortment of children's story books. INTERNET & TV - We have high speed cable internet and a terrific wifi signal throughout the house and lanai. There is also basic cable television (if you're so inclined). BDVD/CD player also gives access to your NetFlicks, Amazon Prime, and other accounts. Your MUSIC will sound amazing on the Dolby 7.2 home theater, with Bluetooth connectivity via the receiver. Relax on the new (Jan 2017) microfiber SOFA & LOVESEAT. The arrangement of the new furniture enables guests to enjoy watching all the activity at Honolii Cove and Hilo Bay, as the low back of the loveseat does not obstruct the view.

LOCATION!!! Welcome to Hilo and the Hamakua Coast. Big Island vacationers in-the-know, choose the windward eastern side of the island for its lush, tropical, natural beauty, and for its less touristy, peaceful, relaxed vibe. Staying at Kahoa House offers the convenience of nearby old-town Hilo for its shops, restaurants, and farmer’s market. HONOLI'I BEACH, is within walking distance. Keep walking along our street under the JUNGLE CANOPY for a few more minutes to discover bridges over streams and several WATERFALLS. Also nearby are pristine Onomea Bay, the trails through its Botanical Gardens, Akaka Falls, and eco-adventure activities. Volcano National Park, the Waipio Valley, and the vista point on snow-capped Mauna Kea are all good daytrips from here. Offshore activities can also be organized out of Hilo. If your flight is via Kona, the drive to Kahoa House is less than 2 hours. If your flight is via Hilo, the airport is less than 15 minutes.

Choose Kahoa House for your next Hawaiian holiday! You will not be disappointed. Most guests only regret not booking for a longer stay. Recommended stay is 7 days to balance sight seeing with quality rest & relaxation time at the house, while taking advantage of the weekly rate.

FYI... Our base rate of $400/night is for double occupancy. For this reason the number in your guest party must be entered when you book. Additional fees of 25/person/night plus tax is added automatically by the VRBO booking platform. Should you be booking as a couple and later having family or friends join you, let us know and we can adjust the rate. For a further explanation of our rates schedule, please inquire before booking.

Couldn't ask for a better location or views. The house is stocked for a day on the beach or snorkeling, but it's so nice and airy you could sit inside and read all day while taking in the ocean air. Super easy to get on the highway and drive up the coast to waterfalls, farms, and even more amazing vistas.

This house is gorgeous! We enjoyed the sounds of the ocean day and night and it was a treat to watch the surfers from the nearby beach. Very convenient to zip into Hilo while staying in a quiet location. The kitchen is very well equipped for any cooking needs and the house was very spacious and comfortable for our group.

We enjoyed our 8 night stay. The star is the location, less than a 5 minute drive from downtown Hilo but sitting perched on the edge of a bluff with 180 degree views stretching from the surfing beach to your left to Hilo Bay to your right. The outdoor spaces with these views really expand the use of the space. The interior is cozy, with three good-sized bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom. And the property owner was very good at communicating, both upfront and also in response to any questions that we had.

We absolutely LOVED our stay in Hilo. This home is just a few minutes from town and we were so happy to walk down the street to the beach! Perched on the cliff we had incredible sunrise views and watched the surfers daily. The home was equipped with everything we needed. Randall was responsive with fixing a key that broke off in the lock and was very speedy and helpful with communication. If we ever find our way back we will definitely stay again!

Randall was an amazing host so responsive and there to make sure our stay was perfect. Don’t look any further you've found a Hilo gem!

The view from the property is outstanding. Our experience was not so good. Overall the property is run down and a lot of things are worn or broken. The house had rats and we killed one in a trap on tghe same kitchen counter where food is prepared the third night we were there. Plus, is wasn't very clean and there was no vacuum in the house. It's a shame really. When it was built it was probably a really nice place but age has given it a broken shower door, smashed range lights, etc. It needs some money put into it a a decent job of cleaning.

The pictures don’t do it justice! Absolutely beautiful home in a convenient location with incredible views. Lots of nice little touches such as extra linens, towels, extension cords, hygiene products, plenty of fans etc. The kitchen is fully equipped and rooms were very comfortable. Randall was easy to contact and accommodating. My only note is that the pictured lounge chairs on the primary bedroom deck were not there during the stay, but there were other outdoor tables and seating.

This property was absolutely perfect - excellent proximity to Hilo, fantastic view, and it had everything a family would need on vacation all the way down to beach chairs and towels. The rooms were comfortable even without A/C (which was a concern for us initially as we are from Florida and A/C is a must) and the kitchen was perfectly equipped with anything you'd need.

Kahoa House was our vacation home for 4 days accommodating a multi-generational family of 4 adults and 2 children (9 &12yo). We loved the spectacular coastal location on Hilo Bay, especially all the wave action, surfers and even a cruise ship passing. It's a cozy, clean, well equipped home in a prime location with easy access to the regional attractions. Loved covered outdoor Lanai and front deck. Our visit to Volcanoes National Park was spectacular with Kilauea in full eruption. Abundance of beach gear, games, puzzles, books and binoculars were wonderful additions. Note, no A/C if your staying in summer, but excellent ventilation and fans. Would definitely stay again.

There are a lot of reviews on this house…and all are really good. Well, you can believe what everyone has said. The house, with full ocean views, was absolutely beautiful. Large picture window and sliding glass door provide a 180 view of the ocean. Surfers start at daybreak and entertain til nightfall. Three full bedrooms with each having a private bath. All three are so nice, I’m not even sure which to call the Main Bedroom. Wonderful kitchen with everything you need from silverware to dinnerware, several coffee machines… well, too much to list actually. There are two wood decks that face the ocean and a very large tiled lanai. One deck has a table and chairs with the lanai having its own table and chairs with separate comfy lounge chairs. There is so much to say about this place that this review could go on as a short novel. But, I’ll stop there with this - this is the nicest VRBO that we have ever rented. Do yourself a favor and book this place if you are looking to visit Hilo.

We had such a wonderful stay at this lovely home. Exactly as advertised - amazing setting and views and stylishly decorated. Beautiful setup for 3 couples with each room having its own bathroom. The hosts thought of everything - snorkeling gear, beach chairs, umbrella - to make it easy for us to enjoy time at the beach. We also enjoyed the spices, condiments, and BBQ that helped make saving some money with homemade meals easy. We also liked that we didn't have to waste money and food. If we come back at the area, this offering will be first on my list!

Absolutely, enjoyed our time at Oceanfront Promontory. The home has everything you need to enjoy your vacation in wonderful Hilo. You are close to a black sand beach where you can watch surfers and take a walk on the beach. While drinking coffee on the deck we watched dolphins playing in the surf and cruise ships entering the port. The home included all the beach amenities needed to enjoy a day at one of Hilo's beaches including snorkel gear, beach chairs and towels. We loved being close enough to downtown Hilo and enjoy the many dining opportunities as well as the Farmer's market. Look forward to returning!

This property is one of the most stunning, beautiful places we've ever stayed at. We were very pleased with how well-stocked it was, which (unfortunately) is unusual with vacation properties. For example, they provided toiletries (including q-tips, body wash, lotion), laundry detergent, plenty of bedding and pillows, a first aid kit, and even coffee! (Yay, coffee!) Communication was top-notch with the property manager, with clear instructions on entering and exiting the property. I think the only negative about this place is the frogs in the landscaping at night. They are LOUD. But that's NOT the owner's fault, and certainly can't be held against them. Just be aware that if you stay here you might want to bring earplugs. :-)
