Some positives: The view, the location, great street for walking, nice restaurant down the road. The negatives: The house was extremely dirty, there was hair left on the floors and on the walls (like they wiped the floors walls w/ the same cloth.) The doors had dirt and the knobs were crusty w/ dirt. The vacuum was full and wouldn't work, not sure when they used it last? We had to empty it ourselves and tinker with it to get working again. We found tons of nails and screws on yard, we would continue to pick them up. Dangerous for children for playing/walking around. One of the beds was broken and was never fixed. The owner stated that my brother in law was fine w/ sleeping on the floor, he meant for that first night, not the whole week. I asked him many times for it to get fixed. Never happened. He said that kids jump on his furniture and break it. Okay, well, what does that have to do w/ us? It was broken when we first got there! We paid a lot of money for a week, didn't expect for two family members to be sleeping on the floor. Also, my in-laws bed was covered in water after a storm. The owner accused us of having the AC on during the storm. Negative. We wouldn't do that. Everything is outdated, he needs to take a lot of that furniture to the local goodwill or dump. We had to clean the floors and tables ourselves, stains from the last renters. He has a thorn bush right by the stairs to the beach, I asked for him to trim them back b/c our kids/us would hit it going down to the water. He cut a few and then just threw on a pile by the steps. Once again, just so sloppy. This house isn't worth the price, find another home to rent. I met some great neighbors and they all commented that they know this house is dilapidated. I'm sure the pics were from 10 years ago. He has an outdoor shower now, but I don't think what he has can be called that. Basically just a pipe coming from out of the ground w/ a hot and cold spicket, covered by spiders. His listing forgets to mention that his realty office is attached to the home, once again, his listing description lacks the truth. I made sure to voice my concerns while we were there. He wasn't nice and didn't accommodate. Basically, I don't think he cares, he knows he can rent to whomever and not rely on people coming back each year. I have never had a bad experience on VRBO and I've been using them for years. So when I say it was bad, trust me, it was bad, move on to another listing.
A lovely, comfortable family house opening directly onto a beautiful, very quiet sandy beach. And such a beautiful, ever-changing view. We loved strolling and wading out to the island that became accessible when the tide went out, and it was great to have Buffleheads nearby for very good food. We had a very relaxing stay and hope to return.
Great location on a fantastic beach for kids. House was clean and well equipped. Owner/caretaker very helpful.
This was the best vacation we have ever had! We have a 4 and 2 year old and they loved it! We could hear the ocean every night while sleeping and enjoyed the beach during the day. The first floor bedroom was perfect for my sister who stayed with us. Felt like she had her own suite. Loved being able to walk to the local restaurant Buffleheads too! Everything was perfect!
EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE THE ONLY THING WAS THAT WE NEEDED TO PROVIDE OUR OWN BEDSHEETS AND TOWELS. THIS THOUGH WOULKD NOT HOLD ME BACK.GREAT TIME THANK YOU
We had a wonderful week at 125 Hills Beach Road. We had perfect weather and a beautiful rental. The house was lovely and everything we needed for our adult family to enjoy our week on the ocean. The downstairs suite worked perfectly for our daughter, son in law and their one year old son. The bedrooms on the second floor were clean, comfortable and fit all needs for rest of the family. The view from the living room was breathtaking from sunrise to the beautiful evening sunsets. We also enjoyed walking down property steps to the waterfront and our daily strolls thru the quiet neighborhood. There was a public beach in our view but we had no reason to leave the property for beach fun. Thank you, Raymond for a exceptional stay and we hope to see you next summer. Faye
This was a vacation for our entire family: 8 adults and 3 grandchildren. The view was breathtaking. The house was very clean upon arrival. The owner was very kind and showed us some of the important points about the house. The yard is adequate and the grill is large. The stairs to access were a bit intimidating but were in good condition. Two of the beds were reasonably comfortable but the remaining beds were not. The sleeper sofa in the living room was not working well according to the owner. That left us one sleeping surface short. The garbage was very confusing as we filled up the main receptacle and had only one orange bag for the overflow. I looked for an orange bag at Hannaford but was unable to find one. Some of the windows in the downstairs bedroom did not open so we weren't able to get a good breeze in that room. The same with the living room, although with the ceiling fans we were very comfortable in there. The downstairs bathroom shower door was tricky to operate. It rained very heavily the night before we left, and the downstairs bathroom ceiling had a significant leak during the night. We had to contact the owner about the wifi as it was not found on the paperwork. These were fairly minor problems and were reported to the owner. Overall, this was a magical vacation with our children and grandchildren. The beach was very quiet which was good for the kids to explore and fly kites.
My family and I throughly enjoyed our stay on Hills Beach. The cottage was clean with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable furniture. We loved being able to eat our meals at the outdoor picnic table while enjoying the sea breeze and views of the water and islands. The beach is wide at low tide and ideal for younger children to paddle around and play in the sand. It is a perfect area for paddle boarding or kayaking and exploring the nearby islands. Mr. Cronkite, the owner, could not have been more helpful in responding to any requests that we had. I have given 4 stars because there is limited parking, and the steep stairs leading to the beach make this cottage inappropriate for someone with limited mobility. However, I highly recommend this home if you are looking for a peaceful vacation with comfortable accommodations and a gorgeous view.
This was one of the best vacations my family and I have every been on! The hills beach home was a perfect home for my inlaws and our family of four to stay! Everyday felt like a dream waking up to the sound of waves and a stunning sunrise! We all couldn't wait for low tide to go out and explore the beach and all it's critters like hermit crabs, clam shells, and seagulls. We could enjoy Old Orchard beach fireworks on thursday right from the family room. The house was so open and just perfect for 1 and 2 yr olds to run and crawl around! Raymond was very helpful and greeted us on arrival with great recommendations for the area! Wolfe Farm & Lobster is a must for fresh steamed lobsters. And don't underestimate the citgo with a deli inside (had take out almost everyday). Buffleheads restaurant is a 2 minute walk away and is excellent! Loved our stay and everything about it! The house had everything we needed and more! Thank you Raymond for opening your home to us!
The location was beautiful. First family vacation that we could not have day visitors and felt we were watched the whole week. House was nice but needs washer dryer update. Did not have a blender like the printout said. Air conditioner in downstairs. Bedroom smelled musty andmy husband and I came home with sore throats and cough. The house next door was for sale and was bothered by a prospective buyer who would show up daily and came over to talk to us even asked to use the bathroom...was very uncomfortable. The stairs going down to the beach were uneven which made some of us trip up and down them. Best part of vacation was being with family and the weather was perfect. We would not recommend this place with young children.
