Summerland Key, Florida
This luxurious cozy and comfortable, three-story home, overlooks the blue Atlantic, punctuated by small tropical islands, the most prominent of which is Looe Key reef, a popular diving/snorkeling area.
There is an island, located a few miles out directly in front of the home, was formerly called Monkey Island, a name still used by the locals, this because monkey research was once performed there.
Interestingly, the research was stopped due to 'monkey business,' i.e that the primates began swimming to the mainland, creating some havoc and threatening to eventually outnumber the local inhabitants. The spectacular view is effectively captured by virtue of numerous expansive windows and sliding doors, all of which complement an already-bright and cheery interior.
While virtually every room is afforded this unique ocean panorama, the top floor, housing only the master bedroom suite, is especially unique. Here, one is treated to an ocean-front balcony, king-size bed fronting the Atlantic, walk-in closet, bidet, and a spacious bathroom with two-headed shower for those who enjoy joint bathing. There are two bedrooms, on the main level, likewise roomy suites, tactfully furnished and endowed with their own bathrooms and balconies. Icing on the cake - Each bedroom has its own flat-screen HD TV with surround sound. The final bedroom is on the 1st floor and has a beautiful view of the ocean out back and furnished with 2 twin beds.
The spacious living/family area, bordered on the ocean side by a cozy sun room, is bright, tastefully furnished, and, above all, comfortable and inviting. A 55-inch flat-screen LED TV, with surround sound, tops off this unique ocean setting. Also on this level, in addition to the two bedrooms and baths, is a gourmet kitchen equipped with stainless-steel appliances.
The kitchen is bordered by an enclosed washer and dryer, breakfast bar/snacking area, a full dining room, and a balcony overlooking the tropical pool and ocean. The balcony, with a small seating area, is equipped with a gas grill, anxiously awaiting the fresh fish and lobsters to be caught off a large deck on the lower level. (see below).
The lower level, with ample storage space for fishing/snorkeling/swimming gear and other needs, opens, in the front, to a large circular driveway surrounded by lush greenery, and, in the back, to a tropically-landscaped pool and patio area. Here, one enjoys the comfort of a table and chairs and numerous chaise lounges. Attached to the in-ground pool is a hot tub and, along side, a shower. A few steps down from the pool/patio area is an expansive concrete deck, suitable for sunning, fishing, boat docking (off the back sea wall, boat lift not included), or simply viewing the boats gliding by, with the ocean and islands as a backdrop.
In summary, this tropical paradise, which enjoys a post-card type sunset and surroundings, awaits those with a penchant for a 'margaritville-like' atmosphere. Located some 25 miles north of Key West and just south of Deer Key and Marathon Key, one is treated to the peace and tranquility of family-oriented Summerland Key, albeit with proximity to the night life, shopping, and other advantages of the larger keys. This is not to say, however, that restaurants, with rustic nautical decor and savory food, do not exist nearby, both by land and sea, as do stores for basic shopping and groceries.
One final, but highly significant, note - The highly-affable and capable manager of the home is a long-time local resident who lives nearby and is a readily-available troubleshooter and purveyor of valuable tidbits and suggestions. His value is attested to by the comments below from previous tenants. In short, come relax in this tropical abode. You will almost certainly want to return.

Beautiful views throughout the day & early evening, nice pool partially shaded which works very well & gives you options of sun or no sun, while in the pool. House is set up very comfortably and flows well. Very short drive to high end convenience store, package store, hardware, and gas station. I would highly recommend this house for a vacation.
We very much enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning some time.
The home has a wonderful location and is convenient for large families. Clean and well maintained, will book again.
We’ve loved vacationing in the Keys for many years - fishing, enjoying restaurants, kicking back, etc. This house with its location for magical sunsets, a safe dock for our boat, and pool which our grands loved was ideal
If I could give this property more than 5 stars I would. This was truly paradise, the pool, the views, the fishing off the dock, the kayaking - everything was so worth it. Dealing with the owner was great, he was so accommodating, so helpful and so understanding of whatever we needed. To say that this location was truly paradise is an understatement... it was heaven here on earth. A beautiful home to make beautiful memories with family and friends. Thank you for a memorable time in the Keys that we will cherish forever.
Excellent rental with all amenities! Maintenance issues. Important ones addressed immediately. Needs new grill. Kitchen has everything you would need. Fishing in front for bonnet sharks good. Had bait freezer. Near to Key West
The best July ever! Offshore fishing was incredible. House was perfect. Pool was an added bonus.
We had a great stay, beautiful sunsets and house is well equipped.
We've been coming to the Keys for a long time now and I can honestly say, this is the best one! This house was clean and very very comfortable for our monthly stay. The kitchen is a nice size and I love the gas stove. We had plenty of room to sit and relax after spending a lot of the day on the water. The bedrooms were perfect, all of them have plenty of room and they all have TV's. The master is the best, it's spacious and on the third floor, with a large master bath and closet. We really enjoyed our special area, we felt like we were alone, when we went to bed. We even had our own balcony! My husband is the fisherman, so it's important for him to be right on the ocean. He didn't have to bring his cutting board, there's one right there on the boat dock and under the shade, so cutting all the fish he caught was nice. We liked the wide boat dock because we all could sit out and enjoy the ocean view and the beautiful sunsets. I enjoyed the pool because it's not all in the hot sun, part of the pool is in the shade for people like me that fry. :-) We liked having a table and chairs near the pool too, so we could enjoy our family and friends. We also had plenty of lounge chairs for the girls to layout, that's a must for them. I also want to mention about the driveway. We usually have a problem finding room for the boat trailer and 2 trucks, but we had plenty of room, which made it a lot easier for us. Love that! Last but not least... Rich, the property manager is so nice and helpful from the time of renting to the moment we had to leave. And Greg, I'm thinking he's the assistant manager. He made our stay so much nicer, from coming over late at night when I had a problem with a appliance, to helping my husband find a place to put his boat when the weather got bad. Thank you Rich and Greg, you are awesome! Thank you for a great vacation!
This home is spectacular - better than the pictures. Perfect vacation home for us (sun-lovers and shade-lovers). The home was very clean and the kitchen is beautiful, it contained everything we needed for our stay. We stargazed every night from the 3rd floor balcony. We visited local restaurants (love Mangrove Mama's) and also went into Key West for some libations and shopping. Went kayaking several times also. Rich, the property manager, carefully explained how everything worked when we arrived. When we had a question about the hot tub the next day, he came over to show us again. Nice to know there is someone close by to assist with any questions/problems. This home really delivers!
