Ocean Beach Home In The Heart Of Authentic Old Hawaii

This home exceeded all of our expectations! Our host Gregg was very accommodating and even met us at the house to welcome us to his beautiful custom home. The house is very well-stocked and nicely furnished. Its location can’t be beat. We were able to enjoy sunsets from the deck; barbecue; swim & snorkel at the beach in front of the house; hike two coastal trails; and travel easily from the house to Volcano National Park. The outdoor shower was an added bonus. We’ve stayed at a number of rental homes and this one is at the top of our list.

The house is in perfect order with everything you would need. The view is incredible. The sunsets spectacular. Gregg was the quintessential host - excellent communication, friendly, and helpful with local suggestions. This owner built house attended to every detail in design and comfort and aesthetic.

The host was very welcoming and took extra steps to make sure we were enjoying our stay. The house is a well designed, well thought out place making our stay very relaxing and peaceful. The ocean can be viewed from every room. It was exceptionally clean and well stocked.

We had a wonderful time and Greg was excellent. I decided to provide a pros and cons list for those thinking of staying here. The house is lovely but we would not call it luxury.Pros: The covered lanai and ocean view, sound of waves is fabulous.All the appliances are new. It is old world Hawaii at its best. The beds are super comfortable. Linens are new. All soaps, shampoos,,conditioner, body wash avaiilable.The outside shower in the master bedroom is great.Plan to stay here most of the time. It's a long drive to anywhere. You can swim and snorkel at the beach here or several up the coast but its hard when rough in the winter.Only about a little over an hour drive to Volcano national park.Cons: If you are older, the stairs from the parking to the house with heavy luggage is a lot. The road down to the house is navigable but scary. You have to ride the brakes a lot.The bedrooms are air conditioned. But the main room is not and it gets very hot, even with all the windows open and the fans going.The second bedroom is also the TV room, so if you want to watch TV, understand that there is no bedroom privacy. (You shouldn't be watching tv much in the gorgeous place anyway!)(Greg, you should leave instructions as to how to use the satellite tv and all the apps. It's a bit complicated for people who aren't technology savvy).The curtains are see through, which lets the sun shine in. And anyone looking! This could be a pro and a con, depending on you.

We stayed Jan19-23 2026. This is not your typical VRBO. This new beach house is luxurious, even posh! Wonderful deck with lots of comfortable furniture and great ocean views. It has a double bed and 2 twins in the middle. Master bedroom with its own bath is separate, only accessible from the deck, in the back. 2 great outdoor showers. 2.5 baths. Amazing decks, with great views. Bedroom AC worked great. Huge fancy kitchen, dining, living space. We cooked dinner in twice, and the kitchen and BBQ worked perfectly. Everything in the house is new and in spotless condition. It’s across a very quiet street from the beach, so technically not ocean front—but again, great ocean views from the deck. There’s a house SW that’s barely visible, a small parking lot for Pebbles Beach across the street, another house to the NW, so you have a view from all the way south, to straight west, from the decks (and inside). To the south is a huge lava field and forest as far as the eye can see, so it’s comfortable taking a shower outside, as they face south. Road down is crazy steep! Our small Ford SUV rental struggled with just 2 of us! If you have a carload, consider renting something big, like a Suburban. Pebbles Beach, right across from the VRBO, is very dangerous; people do swim and snorkel there, but I strongly recommend against it. Owner Gregg was a great host—very helpful and communicative. If you’re looking for quiet, extremely nice, off the beaten path, this is an amazing place.

This was our second visit to this beautiful vacation home and we loved it just as much as our first! The home is clean and so well cared for - the kitchen has all the amenities we needed to cook multiple family meals. We enjoyed the incredible views over coffee each morning… and the Kona Paradise hill makes for a great workout if you’re up to it!! Gregg is an excellent host, we can’t wait to return again soon…

Had an amazing stay at the beach house! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could ever need. The house was very clean and we felt right at home as soon as we walked in. The best part was the gorgeous view of the ocean and the amazing sunsets. Our stay exceeded our expectations, wish we could have stayed longer.

I absolutely loved this location for our stay on the big island. Checking in was smooth and Gregg gave me a call personally to make sure everything was good. The house is right by Pebble Beach which is very convenient for activities like swimming and snorkeling. There’s snorkeling equipment available at the house which was great. The kitchen was nicely equipped with everything we needed to cook meals during our stay. The drive to Volcanoes National Park is about 90 minutes. I loved the views from the house and having a very large deck complimented that nicely. I was able to do some astrophotography when the sky cleared up since most of the big island has skies rated Bortle 1. If you want to see the milky way, andromeda, constellations, or any deep space nebulas definitely think about staying here. I loved this experience and want to come back again in the future!

We could not be more pleased or impressed with our stay. The host was kind, responsive, and helpful, and the home and property were absolutely stunning. Beautiful craftsmanship, all the amenities, well-stocked, and ideal location for fabulous snorkeling, morning hikes, and incredible sunsets...and the outdoor showers are a must! We are leaving with such peace and gratitude and would absolutely stay here again. Mahalo!

This was an absolutely wonderful day! The house was immaculate, and everything was perfect. Views of the ocean at the end of the street and across from pebble Beach! Easily the best option to stay anywhere near the Captain Cook area. We loved being immersed in nature away from the crowds. The host was wonderful and very communicative. One of our best stays yet!

This home was even nicer than it appeared in the listing photos. The decks are enormous and provide an ocean view as well as a hillside view. This house is the last house on the road so the view across the hillside is unobstructed. The neighborhood beach is across the street and we never saw more than 3 or 4 people on it. The water was calm during our stay so we snorkeled and found some great coral, turtles and fish. It was wonderful.The kitchen is the best stocked of any VRBO we’ve stayed in and the house is immaculate. This house is managed by the owner and he is very easy to contact and work with. I intend to stay here again on my next trip.

This is a beautiful house in a fantastic location with access to a beach just across the street. The views of the beach and ocean from the front and side decks are fantastic. We spent hours on the deck watching and listening to the waves on the beach below. There is also a good place to the right of the beach to snorkel. Just wished we could have extended our stay. The house is well stocked with linens, towels, dishes, beach gear, barbecue grill, etc. You name it, it was there. A couple of nearby grocery stores have evrrything you need. The listing is 100% accurate, but there is no way to describe the peacefulness of this location. And the owner was easy to contact and always helpful. This was the perfect VRBO experience. This house was perfect in every way! Private and secluded with comfortable beds, AC in rooms, outdoor showers, views for days (perfect for sunset) and the kitchen had everything we needed and seconds away from Pebble Beach. This was the perfect property for me, my wife, and 11 year-old son. Everything was provided for in the home and made our brief stay immensely relaxing and enjoyable. Gregg--the owner--was incredibly thoughtful and generously provided personalized information and guidance to make our stay completely stress-free.We were saddened to have to leave after our short, 3-day stay. We loved our stay and the location of this beach home. Friendly owner has built a beautiful place to spend your time in Hawaii. Very Clean, modern and well equipped kitchen including spices and other incidentals needed for cooking. The lanai is the most ideal spot to relax and enjoy the view. One of our favorites of the many places we have ever stayed. We will be back!!!

Our family really enjoyed our stay at this fabulous home. Check in was easy. House was spotless. Kitchen was well stocked. Loved spending evenings on the lanai. We watched whales from the beach directly across from the house. Enjoyed the cool tropical breezes at night. We would gladly stay here again.

Excellent location 1 minute walk to the beach with a rugged trail north and south. Beautifully constructed and decorated home with gorgeous views. We enjoyed our 4 nights here so very much. Thank you !!

The home was gorgeous. We loved everything about it -- the decor was inspiring, the beds excellent, the kitchen color and layout we plan to steal, and all those screened doors made even warm days awesomely comfortable. I honestly wish we'd planned a less jam-packet itinerary so we could have spent afternoons napping on the patio, listening to the surf and the birds. I'm getting nostalgic just thinking about it. If we're ever to return to the Big Island, availability here will be the first thing we check. We adored staying here!

Gorgeous ocean-view house with perfect layout for two couples or a family with kids. Even more stunning in person than in the photos. Located in a peaceful, out of the way neighborhood right across from the ocean. We loved sitting on the lanai every morning with a cup of coffee and watching the waves, listening to the birds, and spotting seals popping their heads out of the water. The waves crashing at night were the perfect white noise to fall asleep to. The house was spotless and stocked with everything you could possibly need - especially appreciated the travel cooler, kitchen tools and towels. Mini Split AC units in the bedrooms if you need them. Great communication from the host, Gregg. The house is located at the bottom of a steep, winding road. We had no trouble navigating it in our rented SUV, but you'll want to consolidate sightseeing and shopping trips to avoid driving up and down multiple times per day. Once you get to the house, you won't want to leave anyway. Located about 45 min south of Kailua-Kona and 25 min south of Captain Cook (nearest neighborhood with grocery and restaurants). Do stock up on groceries on your way to the house. The Choice Mart in Captain Cook was well-stocked, but plenty of options in Kona too. Stop at the South Kona Fruit stand for fresh fruit and baked goods. Nearby restaurants close early, so plan ahead. Recommended activities: Volcano Nat'l Park, Mauna Kea summit & star tour, sea turtles at Punaluʻu Beach, and coffee tours.

We were just at this property 9 months ago and my teenage boys picked it to come back to over any other vacation choice. They just wanted to hang out near the water and enjoy the house and neighborhood.

a true gem of a place. A little off the beaten path as it’s 45 minutes from Coney Airport, but well worth it. Your own private beach access, quiet neighborhood, great house with all the amenities you need. Greg is very knowledgeable about the island and super responsive. We will certainly be back.

Perfect stay at the lovely home near Pebble Beach. The house is lovely and the furnishings, dishes and linens are so much nicer than other rentals I have stayed in through the years. It was a beautiful trip. We enjoyed having our bedroom in a detached space which gave our college aged kids privacy in the main house. Perfect for traveling with adult children.

Gregg’s house is truly lovely. If one is looking for quiet, peace and want to get away from it all, this is the place to be. We appreciated all the amenities we found there…paper products, soaps, an abundance of beach towels, beach chairs and so many other items too numerous to mention. Kitchen is great, everything so clean. And Gregg so quick to respond to any questions. Hope to be back.

Such a beautiful, well-maintained home! We all fell in love right away. Very close to the black pebble beach and a trail which we walked or jogged every day. Super quiet. Beautiful stars. Amazing decks. Comfy and cute house. Well-stocked kitchen. Road to the house is STEEP! Nothing to worry about but def know how to downshift your car before you go. Location is a little more remote but we didn't find that to be a problem and actually felt we could find restaurants and other amenities easier than we expected. Nice, responsive host. Would go back!

This was one of the best rentals we have stayed in on Hawaii (or anywhere for that matter). You can tell it is a well loved home, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Gregg has a ton of insight and suggestions of things to do/see in the area. We loved the view from the lanai, exploring all of the local snokel spots and the delicious smoothies and baked goods from the South Kona fruit stand (about 15 minutes north). We hope to return! This home was so nice and very comfortable. It had so many extras like beach towels, snorkeling gear, spices, and so many comforts. It's such a beautiful home in a beautiful setting. Host made himself very accessible and provided great information in the area. We would love to come back again.

Very clean and great location for watching the sunset. The deck is lovely and outdoor shower was a nice choice to have. Main area can get a bit warm if you're unable to leave windows open while you're out as there is no a/c in this area. Bedrooms do have a/c. If we ever get back to Hawaii we would definitely stay here again!

Superb in every possible way. The master bedroom is heaven. Location is perfect to access the west coast as well as offering an amazing scenic drive to Volcano NP. One day, we drove around the entire island. The house is well equipped with everything you need to cook on the kitchen as well as chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling gear to use on the beach that is an easy walk from the driveway. We will be back and def rent this house again.
