Stayed Apr 25, 2025Our stay at Mary and Tom’s Coffee Cottage was truly unforgettable! Nestled on their beautiful 350-tree coffee farm, this charming, treehouse-style studio offered the perfect romantic escape with stunning ocean views. The hillsides of Captain Cook are simply magical — bursting with fruit farms, coffee trees, and vibrant flowers — and the Coffee Cottage fits perfectly into that dreamy landscape.Mary was a wonderful host. Mary took the time to share local tips with us, recommending the best snorkeling spot at 2-Step, where to view the Captain Cook Monument from across the bay, and pointing us toward excellent local restaurants and hidden gems. The insight made our trip even more special.A few tips for future guests: Just Be. Take your time in the mornings sipping fresh coffee on the lanai — it's worth lingering over. After a day of adventures, come back to catch a spectacular sunset with a cold drink in hand. We brought binoculars and loved watching canoe paddlers in the bay and spotting exotic birds among the trees. During our stay, we also saw muskrats, roosters, colorful lizards, and a couple of friendly cats roaming the property. The Coffee Cottage is a truly special place where you can slow down, connect with nature, and soak in the magic of the Big Island. We can't recommend it enough — and we can't wait to come back! Stephanie and Cory

Stayed Feb 25, 2025We needed a few days of R & R after a hectic week on Oahu fighting traffic and hordes of tourists. This Captain Cook cottage was just what we needed. The hosts were very accommodating without being intrusive, and communication including instructions for locating/entering the unit was as needed. Located in a quiet neighborhood with the perfect elevated back deck overlooking the hillside with a garden-scape, small coffee planting and not-too-distant sunset views of the ocean. The bird watching from the deck was amazing, as was nearby snorkeling. Breakfast at the nearby Coffee Shack is not to be missed. We like the vibe of the area and will make a point to come back. The rental is located in an estate-type neighborhood that was once a historic coffee plantation. Properties all have some acreage and lots of tropical landscaping so you are not looking at other homes or seeing them. We could occasionally hear some mowers or distant construction, but overall not intrusive, and about as quiet as anywhere we had found in Hawaii.

Stayed Oct 24, 2024A guest house with a view. Enjoy Kona Coffee from the private deck overlooking the coffee plantation and the Ocean. The property is situated on the side of a hill so be a confident driver to make it down the winding driveway. A special place for a getaway on the Big Island. The caretakers were friendly and hospitable.

Stayed May 3, 2024The trip to the coffee cottage was absolutely mesmerizing. My wife and I have not one bad thing to say. OK maybe just one, we had to come home. The views, the sunsets, the outdoor deck and outdoor KITCHEN!! We actually ordered dinner one night from a restaurant and brought it back to the cottage just to eat on the deck. Mary the host was so wonderful and knowledgeable about the area and for things to do. I highly recommend this place if you want to enjoy your stay in the area.

Stayed Aug 23, 2023My husband and I adored this cottage. Mary was very responsive to any questions we had and made us feel extremely welcome. The outdoor kitchen and view of the ocean from the lanai were what really blew us away though. Everything felt very clean and well stocked. It was everything we could have hoped for on our honeymoon and more!
