Hands down our favorite outer banks stay yet. Hosts were lovely, helpful, available. House was well appointed and conveniently located. Lots of extra touches, very thoughtfully maintained and appointed. Hot tub was great! We will definitely be back!

The issues with the ants mentioned in a previous review unfortunately carried over to our stay. The ants were all over the kitchen counters, in the cabinets, and in the dishwasher. I contacted the owner to let her know about the bugs. She was apologetic and left the impression that she was surprised there was an ant issue. She was prompt in calling an exterminator, which was appreciated. I contacted her to let her know the exterminator did come (although on a different day than she told me) and also to let her know the ants were showing up in the kids' bedroom, a bathroom, and were back in the kitchen, along with two dead roaches. She didn't reply and blocked me. I had ants crawling up my arm at one point. Overall, it wasn't the experience we've had in all our years of summers on Hatteras. The positives: perfect location just steps from a beach path; the beach is beautiful and uncrowded; our favorite ice cream shop is a two-minute walk away; and the hot tub is wonderful.

We had such a great stay in this house! The yard is PERFECT for dogs and kids, and there was no dog poop in the yard when we showed up which is a plus. Beautiful screened in porch, although like another review mentioned the floorboards have gaps in them so mosquitos etc can easily get in that way. Didn’t bother us since it hadn’t stormed recently so it wasn’t buggy. The decks are AMAZING and in great shape! Not full of splinters like some of the decks we’ve had in the past. The inside is cute, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Recently updated kitchen. The only two issues we had were ants and the mildew smell. My kids called this rental “The Ant House” because they were EVERYWHERE. We had to keep all food (even dog food) in the fridge, and bleach wipe all surfaces daily. This helped to keep the ants to a minimum, but by no means eradicated them. So. Many. Ants. I know ants are part of the whole beach experience, but I think the house needs an exterminator/pest person. Secondly, we walked into this rental and it was like being hit in the face with smell- terrible heavy mildew smell. I was very surprised only one other review mentioned this issue. We ran the dehumidifier constantly and it helped a little? But not much. When we got home yesterday all of our items (kid’s stuffed animals, blankets, clothing, etc) smelled like mildew. That was the only real issue we had! The house is very cute and close to the beach which was very convenient.

We stated a week at the captains watch. The house was so well laid out for our group of 5. The kitchen is fully stocked which is always nice. The walk to the beach was so short. We had a great time! It was our first time staying in salvo and we were already talking about next year on our way home!

This house is exactly what is says it is! It is perfect for a family that wants to enjoy a quiet vacation with easy beach access. This was our second year staying here and we love it.

There were a couple of minor issues, but it was okay overall.

We enjoyed our stay! Great Location!!Thank you for being Pet Friendly. We were able to go Paddle Boarding with our dogs at the near by Sound Side Beach. As well as day visits to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands!

Location was great, beach 400 steps from the house. Wi-fi was sketchy, in and out. The rain had made virtual swamps of properties and roads which evolved into attack mosquitoes! Bring bug spray! Kitchen was well stocked with utensils, dinnerware and cookware. The only problems we had were the primary bathroom toilet not refilling to flush and the dryer screeched so loudly that we brought our wet washed clothes home. All in all, everything was great! I would recommend this place to anyone.

Captain's Watch is a delightful beach bungalow directly across the street from the beach and very convenient to beach access. The owners recently updatee the deck, and they provide a well-stocked kitchen. While the bathrooms are small, especially the en suite, having 2 full baths is a plus. The house comes equipped with a dehumidifier. We noticed a slight musty smell upon entering and it dissipated during our two week stay. We appreciated the beach cart and got to know the handy man well as he came to service the hot tub, help with a lock out, and address a water leak. Additional family members could not join us in Salvo. With just the two of us and our dog, we found the house the right size. Five or 6 people would have been tight. If you want quiet, convenience and wase, then Captain's Watch is for you.

Our Girls' Beach Week was fabulous. This cottage was so comfy and clean. The outdoor seating and hot tub are a plus. Quick walk to the beach and close to the Tri-villages restaurants and shops. The host family are wonderful to communicate with. We will stay again ?

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and comfortable. Great Hatteras Island vacation.
