East Haddam, Connecticut
This quintessential home speaks for itself. It sits stately on a hill overlooking the awe-inspiring historic Connecticut River as if it is standing guard. The 5 granite terraces that march up into the forest offer even more of the incredible breathtaking views this home offers. When I look out over this beautiful landscape I feel privileged to be here and astonished by the fact that over the last 400 years this River has been a major player in the forming of our country.
Our vision is to offer an atmosphere of Colonial Early American times. We hope that the simple surroundings bring a warm and welcoming feeling like a blanket around your shoulders as you sit in front of the fireplace made of brownstone.
East Haddam a magical place to visit founded in 1734. The Goodspeed Opera House (within walking distance .8 miles) and Gillette Castle are just 2 of the high points in the area. Sit on the deck at the Gelston House (1853) and enjoy a glass of wine and excellent fish and chips. Also within walking distance in case one glass of wine too many!!
One of my favorite moments here is to lie in bed looking out over the river and listening to the pair of local bald eagles chatting in the tree across the road. If only someone would have brought me a cup of coffee!!
Kathy's house is beautiful! Nice space and setup to honor the time it was built. My husnand said it was like staying in a cool museum. The air conditioning made the house very comfortable and there were items stocked in the kitchen and plenty of towels in the bathrooms. Kathy was easy to communicate with and took my suggestions under advisement. The view and all of her beautiful gardens were an additional treat!
I was traveling with a group of colleagues for the weekend and we had an absolutely delightful time at Kathleen's place. The home itself is incredibly well laid out and she's thought of every amenity for a comfortable and convenient stay. Highly recommended!
Rented for 10 days to host extended family holiday gathering. Home was perfect and nicely decorated for the holidays. Well-appointed for making meals and hosting larger gatherings if needed. Location is great and has a beautiful view of the river. Host was very attentive and responsive. I would absolutely stay here again.
Wonderful home to celebrate Thanksgiving with our family!! Amazing host. Thank you.
A fabulous residence and locale! We appreciate the feel of well-loved historic homes (with modern conveniences) and this property delivers just that. Was a great location to rest and decompress. The location is close to local logistics but far enough away from CGA (35-40min) for our cadet to disconnect (a little). Views are spectacular.
We all want to thank our host for this beautiful historic home with a great view of the Connecticut River. The modern kitchen and bathrooms was a great mix of the old and the new. Nice size property with outdoor furniture as well as a firepit. Will definitely stay here again!
Outstanding stay. Beautiful home in a wonderful location with very thoughtful hosts. Highly recommend.
This is a spectacular historical home decorated in 17 th century style but with modern amenities. The garden and views are also stunning. We sat outside by the fire pit each evening watching the sunset. Don’t miss the adorable town with a yummy riverside restaurant. Kathleen was a pleasure to work with too.
We want to thank you for a wonderful stay in your home. The experience of staying in a home that is centuries old is quite an experience. Being from California we have not had the opportunity to enjoy such history. Your suggestions as to where to visit were perfect. Gillette Castle was a highlight. The trip to Hammonasset Beach was great and we really appreciated the gear you had available for us to take with us. The weather could have been better though?️. The ferry tickets you left in our basket were a huge hit. We have never been on a ferry before, much less a 200 year old ferry. Everyone we visited suggested we come back during the fall colors. Will definitely plan on doing that soon. Thanks again!
We want to thank you for starting our vacation off on such a positive note! Loved the welcome basket and all of the local goodies in it..the welcome letter was very helpful and answered any questions we had about the house and the area. Your home is FABULOUS and we especially loved the mornings looking out over the river and hearing all of the birds. We did have a fire in the dining room fireplace while cooking dinner and enjoyed a glass of wine. Thank you for having that available as well!! We will be back!
