Request a Personal Star Party:
If you don't own a telescope and would like to explore the beauty of the night sky, you can arrange for a personal star party with host John. John will visit with you about astronomy and offer a chance to observe the moon, Jupiter, Saturn, star clusters, nebulae, and other celestial objects through his telescope. In addition, he will provide insights about the night sky and allow guests to experience it firsthand.
☀️ Request a Daytime Solar Viewing:
Host John will visit with you about the sun and offer a chance to observe solar prominences and sun spots through a safe solar scope. A prominence is a large bright feature extending outward from the sun's surface. In addition, he will provide insights about the sun and allow guests to view the sun in a unique way.
☀️ Personal Star Party's and Daytime Solar Viewings are free for guests staying at Valley Vista Getaway, so why not request both experiences during your stay
Unique little house. Owners were great and helpful.
Had a great stay here. Very clean and quiet. Saw lots of wildlife around the property. Would book again
This is a FANTASTIC little cottage with all the amenities one could need and a hidden gem for star gazers, astro photographers and birders. Wonderful hosts, beautiful wide open location, a roll off roof observatory to put your telescope in, lovely, cozy, tastefully decorated cottage. We highly recommend it!
Wow, you have to get John to show you the stars in the Observatory! Beautiful!! A very nice quiet stay. Everything you need ... except food! is all provided for your convience.
It is a very cozy and comfortable house. The hosts are great and helpful. The house is very clean, fully furnished with every amenities needed. The welcome book is well organized and very informative. It is obvious the hosts put in lots of efforts and thought into the welcome book.
Great spot for exploring Portal area and Chiracaua Monument. Quiet, private, clean, and had great kitchen and washer/dryer. Owners had a really good welcome book put together with everything you need to know about gas and food, etc. Will definitely book here again.
This is a well furnished, cozy little cabin with all the modern amenities. I thoroughly enjoyed staying in the quiet peaceful setting, and just being able to get away from the city for awhile. John and his wife were very communicative and helpful. I'll definitely stay again if I'm coming out that way, R.
It is great!!!!
This was a great experience for my son and me. We were in the area to do some deer hunting and had the perfect place to stay and rest between hunts. Plus the hosts were amazing and gave us a Solar viewing and Star Party where we got to see the sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Pleiades, Andromeda and the moon through their telescopes. It was awesome!!! Everything was perfect!
After a whirlwind of travel starting in Southern Cal, then to Tuscon for a couple of days, where we stayed in a well-known hotel, our 2 days at Valley Vista were the best. Total relaxation and the hosts couldn't be better! Cathy was so kind when I spoke with her on the phone and John was as well when we met. My only regret is that we couldn't have stayed longer. We definitely plan to come back for a longer period of time and surely experience the star gazing the next time. I will highly recommend to anyone I know who plans on being in the area to stay! 5 stars and 4 thumbs up from my wife and I. Thank you, John and Cathy!!! Matt and Keli
This little house was perfect for us. We were birding in the Portal/Cave Creek area which is less than half an hour away. We got a couple life birds while we were there! Loved the bird feeding station that we could see from the bedroom window. The view of the Milky Way is impressive!
This was a great, little place for my in- laws when they met us in Portal. We stayed in our RV using the full hookups at the house. It was so convenient to be right next door - able to coordinate plans, share meals and visit, yet with everyone having their own space as well. Cathy and John’s responses to our questions, their flexibility and their kindness was greatly appreciated. A private star party was a rare treat and thoroughly enjoyed.
The cabin was small but cozy and efficient. It had everything you could need including a full sized kitchen, washer and dryer, queen sized bed, maps and books. The Adlers also provided a terrific guest book with tons of information. John was VERY generous with his time and his telescope.
Cathy and John are gracious hosts. John is a top tier amateur astronomer and with his telescope in the adjacent personal observatory gave us a “tour” of the heavens. The little house is perfectly laid out and very comfortable, spotless clean. For daytime activities Portal AZ and Cave Creek Canyon are very close by car. Memorable!
It's a great tiny getaway! Perfect size for two people who want some dark sky's and quiet time. John, the host, is very kind and caring. The star party was fun. If you stay on a clear night, definitely don't skip the telescope time.
Great stay with Cathy and John in their cabin in the desert. It was as described, a fully-equipped cabin and an observatory. The hosts were great and attentive. Being away from stores of any kind meant you needed to have what you needed (bring all your food!) and I did. John was a fabulous tutor for learning about star gazing, he loves the hobby and loves sharing his passion. You won't have any regrets with this pick!
This is a great space for one person or a couple looking to explore the Chiricahuas. Everything about the place met our expectations and more. The house was clean and had everything we could have wanted. We especially enjoyed having John come over to show us the night sky from the observatory in the back.
Perfectly appointed little house near birding locations we wanted to visit.
We enjoyed the Gambel and Scaled Quail right outside the bedroom window as well as rabbit, jack rabbit, coyote, and the stargazing. About 20 minutes easy drive to Cave Creek Canyon for more birding where we had a good look at the Elegant Trogon. Hosts were right next door and very helpful.
Quiet and somewhat remote. Dark skies!
