Cozy cabin with beautiful grounds. Remote location but many things to do in the area within a reasonable drive. Lower level does not heat nearly as well as upstairs. A space heater was provided for each bedroom but circuit kept tripping when running both.
My wife, another couple and I were looking for a long weekend away and this fit the bill. Close to several state parks where we went hiking plus a quiet getaway. We loved it.
We loved the screened in porch! We spent every evening after hiking listening to music and visiting out there. It stormed for hours one night and it was fantastic to sit out there and watch it all around us. It was nice and quiet during our stay. There is another home nearby that shares the driveway, but the lush green trees kept it from our view. My son saw a bear a few minutes from the property. It was fun to be out in the middle of nowhere. Everything was more than adequate for our simple needs.
Beautiful spot with natural canopy. The screened porch was a favorite spot to listen to the birds and the breeze in the trees. We had a lovely weekend and hope to return!
We had a lovely stay. My son loved the downstairs twin room and Gram thought the upstairs bedroom was very comfortable. I also slept downstairs; we definitely needed to use the space heaters in the lower bedrooms. The enclosed porches were very nice, although it was cool and damp so we weren’t hanging out there much - I could see them being used in warmer weather. Kitchen, dining area and living space were all clean, comfortable and we were able to enjoy home cooked meals, games and tv time.
We stayed there for Christmas and had a very relaxing weekend. The owners even called to check and make sure we had everything we needed and to warn us that we might lose power because of weather which we never did. We would definitely stay there again
We loved our stay at this cute cabin. The kitchen was well stocked so all you need to do is bring food and drinks. The house was very clean when we arrived. The best part of the cabin is the screened porch. I spent all my time out there from the morning til night. I was little taken back about how close the neighbors were beside us. I wasn't ready for the traffic to and from their home was during our stay. We did notice the downstairs of the home is definitely cooler than the upstairs but it didn't bother us so much. The beds were very comfortable! The fire pit area is in the very back of the property. It does need to be cleaned up a bit. There were buckets and chairs that looked like they were thrown around, but could be from the wind. Also, there was an old cushion and oil bottle were near the firepit. BUT, we enjoyed our fire Saturday night. Overall, we love love the cabin. We had a fantastic time and the screen porch is what I absolutely loved.
The location was a beautiful, quiet cabin near tons of hiking trails. The cabin had all the amenities we needed. We especially loved the sun porch and the fire pit in the backyard. The host was very flexible and accommodating.
This cabin is rustic, definitely out in the woods, deep into nature in Fort Valley not far from Front Royal, VA. The furniture is a little aged but nice. The cleanliness was borderline; a number of things from the dishes to the bathroom pieces to the couch honestly did not feel super clean when we got there, but it is a forest cabin after all so some of this is expected. But we did feel like we needed to clean all the dishes before we used them and did so. The bathroom floors also did not give a lot of confidence in cleanliness honestly. The internet and phone heat and AC do work well. The screened in deck and porch was nice and one of the nicest features. Pleasant little yard in back,. The beds are comfortable and linens are pleasant. The bathroom tubs/showers do have rather strong copper stains in the plastic, but this does not mean they are dirty. The water from the area has just stained the plastic rather deeply over time. The biggest thing we struggled with was that all four of us in our party woke up with ticks on us while sleeping. One of the gentleman in the basement bedroom woke up from sleeping and had three ticks on his body at around 3 AM. He had to take a shower and check his body for more. Both of our female guests upstairs had ticks crawling or lodged on their skin when they woke up - two ticks on one of our ladies and one tick on the other lady. I had a tick on me that I found the next morning when we were all realizing this. I removed it right away. It turns out I had another one one me that had gotten very lodged into my skin which I did not discover until five days later. Once I got that one out, well sadly I have now developed a large red symptomatic area where that tick was that has not gone away even though our reservation was four weeks ago. I am deeply concerned now if I have gotten Lyme disease from this due to the red area, and I am taking medications in hopes to fight this off. This is, understandably, pretty upsetting to me. :( I understand this cabin is deep in the woods of the Appalachian mountains and that ticks live in these hills. I am not sure what the owners can do to prevent this, but we were all shaken up after every member of our four person party had at least one and as many as three ticks climb onto our bodies at night while sleeping in the beds in the cabin. Otherwise, it is a pleasant cabin with amenities if you don't mind a little aged rustic feel.
The house is in need of serious upkeep... Dishwasher is broken and was very dirty inside, clearly showing other people tried using it, and didn't work. The so called grill is rusty, moldy, doesn't work (supposed to be gas) and has rests of food and other stuff where the gas burners are supposed to be (disgusting). The mosquito netting on the porch is full of holes. The house floor was so dirty that none of us dared take off socks or shoes during the stay, tot he point of being sticky. Etc. Nice setting, but not much of a house.
This was a girls weekend (all in our late 60s) I have rented many homes but this home was exceptional. It was very clean and extremely well stocked with cooking supplies and paper products; a rare feature in most rentals The furniture was very comfortable including the beds. We spent many hours on the screened in porch sharing memories and lots of belly laughs. It felt like we were in a treehouse while sitting there. We even enjoyed the fire pit one night. Their welcome book was choked full of excellent suggestions for activities that were within a very reasonable driving distance. We can't wait to go back again.
Such a quiet and peaceful spot. We enjoyed sitting in the screened in porch area listening to nature.
We loved the screened in porch here so much and spent most mornings and evenings out there listening to the birds, playing card games, eating meals etc. Beautiful property, so nice having 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The house just needs a good spring/summer cleaning... under the beds, ceiling fans, behind bathroom doors, good sweeping in corners and ceilings out on deck etc. Those little touches would make a big difference. We loved the area and did so many fun activities with the family. Can't wait to visit again!
We enjoyed our stay here. There is no cell/text service in area (Verizon). They do have a landline and # should be published in advance to notify family/friends in case of emergency. Several repairs are needed, but overall a nice place.
The house was nicely surrounded by woods and had everything (and I mean everything) you could want for a stay away from home. Best stocked kitchen we've ever seen. Roads accessible and location great, except for some noisy neighbors who ran lawnmower/leafblower/ATVs, etc., every morning, ruining quiet mornings to listen to the birds. But very very quiet and peaceful in the evenings and at night. Lots of close by hiking and it felt like we were a world away from Washington, DC with less than 2 hour drive. Access to many wineries was a plus. Would highly recommend this cabin in the woods.
Lovely place, and a relaxing time away
We stayed over a long weekend in early April. The house is located off of a well-maintained gravel road in an isolated area of the Shenandoah Valley. It has comfortable furniture, several nice gathering spaces, good beds and a fully equipped kitchen, including spices and condiments. The house was squeaky clean when we arrived. Communication with the owners and their management company was excellent. Unfortunately it was too cold to enjoy the campfire pit but there was plenty of good firewood. Highly recommend the “Mountain Town Adventures!”.
