We loved it here, and felt very much at home. Thank you for being so attentive to our needs. We hope to be back. Your property is so beautiful & the weather was fabulous. Back home in Oregon it has been very cold so this is nice break.

This is a beautiful 2 bedroom 1 bath upstairs with a full kitchen, huge living room, large dining area and awesome wrap around porch all facing an amazing tropical rain forest. The grounds are immaculate with beautiful tropical flowers and trees. A separate outdoor staircase entrance allows for complete privacy. Tom and Angela are amazing on-site owners that take care of every need that could arise. They have tons of great ideas for excursions, if desired. You are only 10 minutes from the Volcanoes National Park.”

Owners, Thomas & Angela, are very friendly and inviting. Great value. 2BR/1bath. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. There is a flat screen tv, dvd player, water filter on the kitchen sink. Soft rainwater was a big plus (after the hard water at Waikoloa)! There was real ground Kona coffee, Coffeemate powder, sugar, hot cocoa, diet soda, tea bags, paper plates & napkins. Full kitchen with dishes, utensils, cookware, salt & pepper. If you're staying for awhile, there is a fairly new gas grill and styrofoam coolers for your use during your stay. Beautiful flowers (especially anthuriums) & fruit trees outside. We stayed only 1 night to see the volcano at night. But it would be a great place to spend some time and get away from the city or resort. It is a great place to stay for exploring Hawaii Volcano National Park which is a 20-30 min drive. Grocery store (Foodland), drug store (Long's), gas and restaurants are 20-30 minutes away in the opposite direction on Hwy 11 in Kurtistown. When we visited 7-17-13, we enjoyed a cool night (down into the upper 50's or low 60's), but warmed up quickly during the day. There are extra blankets, but we did not need them. It rained a lot in the afternoon & night (which is why it is so green), but rain cleared during the day when we were there mid-July. You will be on the second floor during your stay. It is a duplex with a private separate entrance. The stairway is covered and is well lit. Large airy, covered, lanai (patio) deck on the 2nd floor. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen, and one with 2 double beds. All beds have comforters and are firm but comfy. We had 5 people in our party, me, husband, son (12), daughter (9), and my mom. There was room for us all. ”

Wow! what a wonderful spot. thanks so much for your hospitality and the tour of the area. We certainly experienced awe-inspiring nature-the beauty of the area capped off with an earthquake one morning and an incredible thunderstorm the next night. We were snug and comfortable looking out from the spacious lanai at nature's show as lighting lit up the night.
Thanks for great accommodations.

We really enjoyed our stay at the property. The house and location are secluded and beautiful, and the property manager was attentive and thoughtful. She didn't seem to mind a rambunctious family of four stomping around above her head (since she lives below on the first floor), which was very gracious. We were disappointed to find that there was no oven in the kitchen as we had planned to do a bunch of baking/cooking while we were there. We were able to make the kitchen work, but with difficulty. There were only two small burners with small circular grates on the stove and the grates and pots interacted dangerously, as the larger pots couldn't remain safely on top of the small grates. We knew after the first few seconds that we could only use the smallest pots and pans (which worked fine for very small portions of cooking). Anyway, it made preparing large meals a challenge, which hopefully most people won't want to do on vacation! :).
We were here to visit Hilo, Volcano National Park, and the Pahoa area. A great location for our stay. Quiet and beautiful place. Comfortable and clean, we enjoyed a relaxing stay. Thanks.
Unfortunately, we could not get to our VRBO property because Highway 11 was closed and and east side of the Big Island was under level thee flash flooding alert. It was advised not to travel.
This rental was absolutely amazing. We were about 25 minutes outside of Hilo and about 20 minutes outside Volcano National Park. Very impressed with the host. Our flight into Kona was delayed 4 hours and after our 2 hour drive, we arrived at the gate at 430AM. The host was immediately available to open the gate and get us into our rental even though it was way past middle of the night (Thank you again!!!! ?) The property is absolutely beautiful and secure with a remote operated gate. Loved having coffee on the Lanai watching the sunrise with the tropical plants that surround the property. If you are going to be in the Hilo area, and you want to be away from everything, yet still close enough, this is a must book rental. I will definitely be recommending this rental to anyone who heads to the big island, Hilo side.
Our plans changed at the last minute so we couldn't stay overnight, but we stepped inside for a little while and it was a gorgeous apartment with lovely views. Our hosts were very welcoming and understanding.
We loved the location of the property. It was a 30 minutes drive to Hilo, but that didn't bother us. We liked being away from everything. We loved hearing the frogs at night. There was a bit of traffic in the mornings, but we were up by the time we heard the cars. The accommodations were spacious and private. The pillows could use updating as they were pretty flat, but the beds were comfortable. This is a great place to unplug and disconnect as the internet reception was little to none, and the wifi was not working (4 star on accuarcy of listing because of no wifi). The kitchen was spacious with extra seating on the lanai. We were only heating up and not cooking so the kitchen facilities were adequate for us. The only reason I gave check in a 4 star was because we didn't know where to go to find our host and there was no reception with which to make a phone call. There's no obvious front door. As it is pitch black at night, I recommend looking for the place in the light.
We enjoyed our stay in this house. There were great breezes and the lanai was wonderful. We enjoyed getting to visit with the owner and getting a tour of his shop.
We enjoyed our stay overall, but we are low maintenance, spent very little time at the cottage, n out most of the day so it worked for us. Details you should know: - cottage is upstairs from host's house (not detached) and they ask you to be quiet when walking near the entry and dining area (directly above their bedroom), so we felt a bit self-conscious and nervous about walking around at night -it's a very wet area, so there's a bit of a musty/mildew smell, but it's a clean house with a few quirks but charming and nice overall -you park in the grass with no covering, so if it has just rained heavily it can be wet/muddy -no back-up power, so if electricity goes out you have no lights and no water because pumps shut off too (We dealt with an outage for a couple hours. Did not have flashlights/lamps so we used our cellphones.) -about 25 minutes from volcano so it is a convenient location if that is important to you - peaceful place, super lush and green, tropical forest experience -kitchen has a camping stove, no oven -no AC, just fans, but okay with a good cross breeze -charming place, decor is an older vibe, wicker furniture, old cabinets, etc.
Pros: Clean, spacious, great lanai, lush and peaceful location Cons: rainiest part of the island, owner below is hyper sensitive to noise so expect to walk on tip toes and whisper during your stay, needs better/more lights, better Wifi (weak and spotty), and a few minor repairs like replacing screens. Some amenities like the bbq or laundry require owner permission.
The property is paradise and peaceful.
